The design concept Roof employed Plan was carving out spheres from a cuboidal mass to create zones. The procession to the final space involved a transition not only from outside to inside, but also light to dark and spatial height differences. A

This hybrid between a book container and the coconut chair is achieved by coceptualizing the hybrid as a coconut with its flesh being carved to form spaces to hold the books - the same language as employed by George Nelson.
