S SAM STEPHENSON Product Design
A BIT ABOUT ME‌ I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a range of skills and interests in most areas of product and graphic design. I am quick to question why things are the way they are and how can they be improved. I am eager to design and create products, graphics, logos and art. I am soon to graduate from Coventry University with First Class Honors with international experience and I’m looking for a challenging and interesting position to make up the next stage of my career.

01. FINAL MAJOR PROJECT
City dwellers are adapting to escalating housing prices by living in smaller, more flexible spaces. BoxOffice is a workstation designed to make the most of every inch of space, providing a work surface which pulls out and packs away when necessary. The product includes valuable storage space and gives the user a seamless transition between workspace and casual furniture.
SPACE EFFICIENT BoxOffice is able to make use of twice the amount of space that a regular desk of the same size can offer. MULTI FUNCTIONAL When in use BoxOffice provides plenty of surface area to work on. When closed it becomes a sideboard, allowing for a better work/life balance. ORGANISED Plenty of storage options and a hidden compartment allow work to be kept safe and organised.
“50 percent of the workforce has a job which allows them to work from home at least part time (HuffPost, 2016)
The basis for this project comes from the inevitability of smaller living space in the near future and the emerging trend of remote working. People already (and will increasingly over the next few decades) find that they do not have enough space when it comes to working at home. BoxOffice is a multi functional workstation which aims to offer a solution to this problem.
DIGITAL SKETCH DEVELOPMENT
02. GARDEN TRIMMER
This project focused on the target audience “Garden Proud, people who are regularly involved in gardening. The aim was to design a shrub trimmer to combat the problems faced in the garden. Through the Ideation phase form and features were explored to design a trimmer that meets the requirements of the market.

03. BRAND DIVERSIFICATION
This was a project from my second year at university, the brief was to select an existing brand and develop a brand new product which epitomizes that brand’s style and narrative. I chose to design for Land Rover because I like the outdoors element they promote, and designed a pair of VR binoculars following the machined aesthetic style seen in Land Rover’s vehicles.
Understanding the grips, overall scale and positioning of the buttons…
This is the final product, electronic binoculars for people who enjoy going on walks and observing nature. They have the ability to capture images and record as well as zoom in and supply the user with information on distance.
04. CLAY HEAD
This project was all about how form language can be translated and developed. I chose to sculpt the head of a lion and each week a different word was introduced to see how that word would transform the shape.
CAD: IRON PROJECT
The brief for this project was to replicate an existing domestic iron in the 3D CAD software “Rhino. This project was carried out over a short period of five weeks and was a great way to quickly develop my understanding of 3D Modelling.
The brief for this task was to design a new range of motor oil for supermarket chain “ALDI. The project was primarily about form but also about graphics and labelling. I produced a number of sketches and a final model made from foam and sprayed. I used contrasting colours dark grey and orange.
This short project aimed to diversify the Victorinox brand. I looked into what the company stood for and how they communicated that with their products. Sticking to to the outdoors lifestyle promoted by the company, I designed this bowl and chopsticks set.
MARKER RENDERING A collection of hand sketches which I learnt to produce using different methods such as marker rendering, pencils, chalk and Canson paper.
This project was about practising essential sketching and rendering skills to show colour and lighting in sketches. I used markers and the Canson paper technique to achieve this.
This first year project was to design a concept for new footwear. I took inspiration from sports footwear, particularly the Nike Air Jordan to produce the idea for this shoe.
