Pigeon Lake

The Lakekeepers Community Based Monitoring project enables individuals and communities to monitor and evaluate the health of their favourite lakes and reservoirs during the summer and winter months. On March 11, 2023, members from the Samson Cree Nation joined the Alberta Lake Management Society (ALMS) to collect water quality samples from under the ice. Participants used a YSI probe to collect temperature and dissolved oxygen profiles, bottles to collect water chemistry, and recorded environmental observations such as ice thickness and snow cover. This information can be informative about the health of fish habitats and the quality of the water. Lakekeepers is free to participate in, and most participants collect monthly samples between December to March.
