IN contrast to the plan of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña to sell the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC), his opponent, Jonathan Guardo, plans to modernize the facility as part of his health program. EBU City Mayor Tomas Osmeña will welcome candidates campaigning during the grand launching of the South Road Properties (SRP) next week. The mayor said politicians can hold a rally during the week-long celebration at the SRP as long as they will not distract the revelers. The invitation is open to all, including opposition party Kugi Uswag Sugbu (Kusug). Osmeña made the statement after his estranged cousin, former senator John Henry “Sonny” Osmeña, who is running for mayor, said he will campaign at the SRP launch since he expects a huge crowd to gather. Mayoral candidates Alvin Garcia of Kusug and Georgia Osmeña of GO Cebu will not attend. They both reiterated their call for the administration to postpone the SRP launch after the May 10 elections. They earlier questioned the timing of the activity and the use of over P1 million in government funds. Georgia said the City should use the amount for the launching on reforestation and other environmental projects instead. “No amount of explanation can cover up the fact that the SRP grand launch is nothing but a cheap political gimmickry using our people’s hardearned money,” Georgia said. Garcia said he may attend and witness the launching if this will be done after the elections. “Muadto ko anang launching kung himoon na human sa eleksyon, dili ta mukubit anang ilang paon kay tabla ra nga gikalawat nato ilang pagpamulitika
