WHY WE’RE HERE This beautiful 69,000 square foot facility is made possible through a public/private partnership between the Y and the City of Sammamish. Built in Sammamish’s Town Center on 9 acres of City owned land, the Community & Aquatic Center is bringing our community together and will continue to create a lasting impact for years to come. With a 50-year lease as sole operator, the Y will greatly expand its positive impact in Sammamish and Eastside communities.
The YMCA of Greater Seattle is the Northwest’s leading nonprofit organization strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We live our mission daily, one person and relationship at a time:
• Reaching 220,069 people of all backgrounds, abilities and financial circumstances. • Nurturing 79,187 children and teens to develop their gifts and give back to our community. • Engaging 15,007 volunteers who contribute 325,988 hours of service each year. • Working with 15,071 community donors, investing $8.7 million in local kids and families.

IMPACT STORY: SANJANA
The word “leadership” used to terrify Sanjana. She described herself as shy, always taking a seat in the back row and avoiding eye contact with the teacher. But once she joined the Teen Leadership Board at her Y, and later the Youth and Government program supported by donors like you, Sanjana started to come out of her shell. She grew her confidence and became more comfortable speaking in public. After four years in Y programs, Sanjana says she’s now a different person. Sanjana says: “I have become so much more confident than I ever expected. In a society where teenagers are constantly told ‘you’re just a kid’ and ‘you don’t understand,’ the Y offered me a place to voice my opinions and contribute ideas in an atmosphere where they are actually heard and taken into account.”

ACTION DID YOU KNOW?
In 2016, over 1,892 volunteers contributed over 10,000 hours to support our cause in strengthening community. Much of what we offer wouldn't be possible without the helping hands of so many amazing people in our community. Here are just a few of the amazing folks who do their part to make the Y as special as it is to our community.
Ross, Tai Chi Instructor Ross is not just an instructor at our Sammamish Community YMCA but a volunteer who gives his time and shares his passion with others. For 5 years now, Ross has given us the beautiful gift of his time, skills, patience, practice, and passion which the community at large is now able to experience in his class every Wednesday evening. "It makes me a better student when I teach. It is my main form of exercise and the only thing I do really that’s not work or family.
Kaela, Youth Sports Ambassador "Coming to America gave me the opportunity to get involved with sports that were not well known in my previous country of residence. I took the opportunity to learn softball and basketball along with other sports, as well as experience the passion the YMCA community has for their sports. Being in a position where I can teach younger kids some skills or just teach them how much fun it can be to be physically active and surrounding themselves with a group of people sharing the same passion, is the fulfillment of my own hopes and ambitions." 26 || SAMMAMISHYMCA.ORG
Kaitlin, Aquatics Ambassador
“I am honored to be volunteer of the month because I have so much fun coming in and helping out every Tuesday. I cannot wait to be old enough to work here because it will be so much fun.
Ryan, Welcome Center
Ryan has been a dedicated volunteer at our Y almost since we opened our doors in April 2016. He enjoys helping with towels and welcoming members as they come in for a workout.
Meghan, Towel Attendant
Meghan volunteers her time every Saturday morning helping fold towels behind the front desk. You can also find Meghan collecting towels around the building and making sure the facility is neat and clean.
Sue , Class Ambassador
Sue serves as a class ambassador for a yoga class she attends regularly. She enjoys helping the instructor set up, welcoming in new members, and helping keep people motivated to continue working out.

Lauren Svacek, Volunteer Lauren has been volunteering with the Y twice a week for several years! She helps with greeting members, managing the towel station, wiping down machines and simply provides a helping hand wherever is needed. However, Lauren’s accomplishments reach far beyond her volunteer work at the Y. She has worked with Microsoft in their café for over 10 years. After work, she enjoys hanging out with her friends at the Highland Community Center, visiting book stores with her mom, and taking art class once a week. At the bottom of each piece that she creates, she draws a worm as her “artist signature.” Lauren also plays basketball in the Special Olympics. Lauren truly embodies the Y’s mission of building a healthy mind, body and spirit! When she’s not busy with work, volunteering, and participating in different activities during the week; Lauren enjoys spending time with her family and pets. So despite such a busy schedule, why does Lauren give back? Lauren's Mom says: “She enjoys helping people and in return, feeling like she is part of a community. Lauren likes when people recognize her from one Y to another.”
As for the Y, we are fortunate to have volunteers like Lauren who are as committed to our mission as we are! Lauren is kind, always smiling, and eager to help others. We are honored that Lauren chooses the Y as her way of giving back. We hope that just like Lauren, our new members too join in on our various volunteer opportunities and initiatives.
