hew. With the days getting longer and the sun’s warmth shining down on us, I wanted to I wanted to reach out

(beyond my office window) and reconnect. Summer approaches, and we’re looking forward to breathing deeply, reconnecting with our friends and family, and yes, finally getting married! While we must continue to be diligent and practice physical distancing (for now), I know many of you have had their plans upended and have anxiously shifted celebrations to a later date in the year. You may have put off planning altogether, and I don’t think any of us blame you. These are extraordinary times and God willing, will be a distant memory.

With that in mind, I wanted to take a moment of levity and take about some trends we’re seeing in décor and introduce you to some of my most trusted industry partners. t’s one of those shades that has so many tones; it’s melancholy yet boundless, confident, and it has

hopeful optimism - it’s no wonder it’s the 2020 Colour of the Year. It’s actually what we need right now in such a turbulent time. We are all anticipating what comes next. Here’s some fun ideas on how to infuse the colour blue into your wedding palette. Flowers: Blue hydrangea, tweedia, delphinium or anemones Décor: For most couples, deep blue linens may be slightly too dark for all the tables at a reception, but adding a pop with blue napkins can tie in the colour with just the right amount. Cocktails: Blue Alize or Curacao infused martinis or classic cocktails like the Blue Lagoon Stationary: The easiest way to infuse a little blue into your theme is through stationary. Haberdashery: The Groom deserves a moment to shine too! A dramatic bow tie in a feathered, royal blue adds an unexpected twist to an otherwise classic Avenue Photo

As seen in Today’s Bride. Vanessa and Vito planned a beautiful wedding that took place at The Toronto Hunt Club and celebrated at The Arlington Estate. Vanessa wanted a joyful palette of colour that included magenta, peach and coral with accents of blue. We suggested a riotous palette of roses, dinner plate dahlias, lisianthus as well as a geo inspired piece of art that served as their backdrop on their live candle wall, which now adorns their living room. Guests were wowed as they entered the venue; greeted by the textures of the various types of centerpieces and decor, cohesively and elegantly held together by repeating the same floral and decor elements throughout the space. Trusting your decorator’s expertise to create will pay off on the day - just be sure to prioritize your wishlist and keep an open mind to their creativity!

Field of Dreams

A whimsical wedding inspiration styled by Swoon Events and Fête Floral + Events. Written by Alana from Swoon Events

very woman dreams about the perfect wedding and all the details that make it beautiful, personal and fun. Details like an ocean of tulle, a tea party surrounded by a room of pastel balloons, and fun elements like cotton candy trees are all fantastical, on-trend ideas that can be beautifully interpreted into the wedding of your dreams. For this editorial, we selected the grandeur of the Estates of Sunnybrook’s McLean House for all of the picturesque spots it offers, like the manicured gardens and rolling fields that surround it. Samantha Ong, of Samantha Ong Photography, highlights the bridal suite resplendent in shades of mauve and blush accents - the perfect backdrop to a tea party featuring a plethora of pastel balloons from Elle Balloons and sinful sweets from Patricia’s Cake Creations. Vintage consoles, like the ones from Glamorous Affairs, adds a luxe element for your sweet table that will definitely make your cake image worthy.

We used the field and cherry blossom orchard behind the McLean House to create breathtaking and ethereal images featuring coloured smoke bombs. Fête Floral + Events took greenery and interpreted it into a woodland inspired tablescape of deep mossy greens accented with perennial favourites of blush cherry blossoms and garlands of spring blooms. The boho trend of loose, airy blooms continues on but this year, a more refined approach emerges in popularity. The focus is on using interesting botanical to create movement and visual depth; interesting blooms like hand painted air plant and magnolia will make your best day ever memorable and seriously leave you swooning. Wedding gowns are incorporating texture as well. We’re seeing a lot of 3D applique like flowers, replacing more traditional lace. Sleeves are continuing to be a big hit, but this year, we are seeing big, voluminous sleeves in sheer fabrics. Dresses have become less form

fitting and more free flowing, taking on vibes from the 70’s & 80’s, with feminime modernity added. Nature is also at the core for many wedding trends. Fruit has been popular to decorate tablescapes or added into floral arrangements and centerpieces. older use of colour and mixing textures. We are seeing brides moving away from traditional colour palettes and incorporating various shades of red, fuschia, even peaches and browns! Dried floral elements are also huge, like grass, dried flowers and leaves, which add texture and a more modern look to bouquets and centerpieces. Velvet linens in various colours are also a big hit right now.

Looking & Feeling Your Best Stephanie from BlushPretty shares her advice in finding the right vendors and looking the best on your wedding day

ow, I might be a little bit biased, but I think the planning of your makeup and hair needs for your wedding day is the best part of your planning process. THE BEST! I mean, think about it - you have the perfect excuse to peruse beauty boards on Pinterest all day, to visit every Sephora within a reasonable radius for samples, and to get your makeup and hair done a few times before the actual wedding date itself. Fun ... fun ... and more fun! Choosing and working with an artistry team is also very fun, but to make it go smoother and easier it’s always a good idea to start of with a proper consultation before you schedule a trial run or book a wedding date. Consultations should be treated like a mini-date ... a getting to know you kind of thing. Why? Because your artistry team will be spending a significant portion of your wedding day with you and your bridal party. They should fit right in with you guys and the vibe should feel comfortable and cozy and most importantly - trustworthy. You have to be able to trust your artistry team! Consultations can help you pinpoint whether a team is a yay or nay for you ... especially before you start shelling out deposits and balances! But how does one do a consultation? What questions should you ask? Here’s a quick guide on the top 10 questions (and their subquestions that relate to them) that you should ask before making the right decision: • What would you say your beauty style is, and what looks are you really strong at

• •

doing? This is the type of style I’m looking for, are you comfortable with doing this look and also, do you think this look is doable for me? If not, what adjustments can be made? Do you have any tips or suggestions for me to prepare me for the trial run and/ or for the wedding day itself? I’m concerned about these specific issues (e.g. foundation matching properly, allergies to products, etc.) - how do you correct or address this problem? For a party of my size, how many artists will be present to provide services? What is the experience of your assistants?

• How long will it take to complete my entire • •

bridal party? What can we do to make sure we run on time? What is your backup plan if you are unable to provide services on my wedding day because of an emergency? Are you flexible with changing numbers of my bridal party or a change in services? What are my options for adding or cancelling services? What do you need in terms of set-up and lighting at my home, hotel room or venue? What will you bring with you to complete services? Do you have any concerns or questions about the scope of mine and my bridal party’s beauty needs for the big day?

Keep this list handy before you go in for your consultations. Take notes and compare the answers and decide which artistry team had the best answers that made you feel like you were in good hands. In addition, keep in mind how you felt just being in the presence of the booking agent, artists, or team leader. In the end, choosing the right team is about the team that provides you the best service, but also, gives you the best feeling in your gut!

Staying in Style

Justin from TYTAN gives you the low down on how to stay in style for your wedding day

Determine your personal aesthetic using the ABC’s of Style. Adventurous – you have a passion for fashion and a lover of color and prints Bond, as in James Bond – a taste for the finer things, including plush fabrics and luxurious details Classic – a preference for tradition with a conservative taste, but moder Know your limits, play within it: •

There are so many fashion do’s and don’ts that it can be intimidating when trying to figure out what to wear to that special occasion. It’s ok if you generally gravitate towards neutrals like Black, Grey, and Navy. In fact, classic doesn’t have to mean boring. Instead, play with textile texture like velvet or brocade in those colors if you want something different, but still feels familiar. But if you are feeling a little more adventurous, perhaps look for a subtle print in a neutral color palette, i.e. grey and navy floral to add some more visual interest. For all the classic gents out there, jewel tones are your best friend.

Size Matters: •

Your height and build is important when it comes to choosing your tie or bow tie because proportion is key. If you have a long torso or just a tall individual, you will want to add a few extra inches to your tie so that it sits nicely at the belt line. Or if you are broad and larger in stature, you may want to consider a larger style bow tie instead of the traditional butterfly shape. This is the beauty of going custom – you can make the necessary adjustments and changes to fit your body type best. Take into consideration that there is much less real estate on a bow tie than there is on a tie so when it comes to choosing a fabric, be mindful of the print size. Smaller prints often work better for bow ties because you are able to see the finer details.

To see more images, this style shoot can be found in the Spring/ Summer issue of Today’s Bride Magazine

TYTAN is a men’s accessories company that specializes in bespoke and limited edition ties and bow ties, which are proudly designed and handcrafted in Toronto. They work around their four pillars of design: • • • •

HERITAGE - taking inspiration from the past, present & future. CURIOSITY - exploring with texture, shape & fabrication. REINVENTION - pushing our creative boundaries. CRAFTSMANSHIP - tailoring to perfection

In addition, as part of their ongoing efforts to be more environmentally conscious and reducing waste, their Reclaimed Program encourages clients to upcycle gently loved items and textiles [such as special pieces from a loved one] to create a truly unique, one-of-a-kind custom piece, which is a beautiful way to start or carry on a family heirloom. TYTAN has had the honor of accessorizing some amazing Canadian talent including; Paul Sun-Hyung Lee of Kim’s Convenience, Jacob Tierney of Letterkenny, Ronnie Rowe Jr. of Star Trek: Discovery/Black Cop, Kevin Hanchard of Orphan Black and Jake Gold, manager of The Tragically Hip. Susan & Edgar’s Romantic Affair Combining Jewish traditions and romantic elements for a fun and memorable wedding at The Estates of Sunnybrook in Toronto Written by Samantha Ong Photography

usan and Edgar met three years ago and just clicked. They just so happened to be at the same place in their lives and had similar values. They love to run together and then spend the night at home gazing up at the stars. They were both ready to make a long life commitment and share a life with someone. Just last year, they purchased and renovated a house together. Susan and Edgar had a beautiful lunch wedding at the with a traditional ceremony. Although Edgar is from Colombia, it was very important to Susan to carry out the traditions of her Jewish culture. Edgar is proud to be part of her heritage and take on the customs that go back thousands of years. Susan and Edgar had a beautiful and elegant lunch reception that was elegant, light and pretty. The ballroom at was decorated in shades of blush, dusty blue and white and

it felt so romantic. Although it was supposed to rain for most of the day, Samantha and her team made the most the weather and were still able to capture lots of portraits outdoors in the beautiful gardens. An Intimate Wedding in Niagara A once in a lifetime wedding experience with a live quartet through Ceremony, Dinner and Dance at the historic Queens Landing. Written by Brent Miller Live

ohn and Sydney’s wedding at the romantic Queens Landing Hotel in Niagara on the Lake was an absolute blast with many charming moments through their ceremony, dinner and dance. It was an incredible reception beginning with a first dance performance of ALL OF ME to begin the party. Through the dance we played a mix of Rock and Motown classics that created a soft intimate magic that really captured the honest feeling of the evening. “Brent and his band performed at our wedding this past April. From first meeting with him, we felt that Brent was truly interested in making sure that his performances made our wedding the party that we wanted it to be. Brent was very professional right from the beginning,

thorough with details and very quick to respond to any questions we had. He played a variety of music and made our first and last dance of the night truly memorable. We have continued to receive many compliments on the bands performance and his ability to change up the music to meet everyone’s tastes. Choosing Brent Miller Live was the easiest and best decision we made out of the entire wedding planning process. We cant recommend Brent, Sarah, and his entire group strongly enough! - John & Sydney
