But in testing a prototype disc with an aero shape similar to our bulged toroidal rims, we found ourselves seeking a new goal: maximizing propulsion. In the most common range of wind angles you’ll face on the road, the Sub-9 can actually generate forward lift when paired with the 21mm Zipp® Tangente tire. For lightweight, durable hub shells, we partnered with the world’s leading aluminum supplier to develop a proprietary alloy with nearly twice the strength-to-weight ratio of typically used 6061 aluminum.
