Date: Wednesday, Oct. 17 Time: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Place: Senior Center, 5 Broad St. The Elder Insider will present a workshop titled “Where’s the Care?” The workshop will discuss how to find assistance with issues on aging, and where to go for help. Date: Wednesday, Jan. 16 Time: 5 p.m. Place: Senior Center, 5 Broad St. A comprehensive worksite seminar that explains decisions people make when they become eligible for Medicare, and how they enroll in the Medicare program. We also discuss working past Medicare eligibility and how coverage options and choices affect a dependent spouse. A shorter section is dedicated to health plan options, if people retire and lose employer coverage prior to being eligible for Medicare. Presented by Heather Hurd, Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Date: Wednesday, Nov. 14 Time: 10 a.m. Place: Senior Center, 5 Broad St. Offered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts, this presentation includes an explanation of Medicare, Medicare prescription drug benefits, how Medigap plans and Medicare Advantage plans work with Medicare, as well as provide updates for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts 2013 plan offerings. This seminar makes complex information easy to understand. A question-and-answer session will follow. All are welcome regardless of your insurance coverage. Date: Thursday, Oct. 4 Time: 12:15 a.m. Place: Senior Center, 5 Broad St. A representative from the SHINE program at Mystic Valley Elder Services will update attendees on changes in Medicare. Hear about the preventive benefits Medicare now covers, as well as cost-saving programs available to those who qualify. Attendees will be able to schedule an appointment with a SHINE counselor for an individual counseling session at a later date. The annual Medicare Open Enrollment starts Oct. 15 and ends on Dec. 7, during which people may enroll in a new plan or change Medicare coverage for the following year. This is also an opportunity to review one’s current coverage. State-certified SHINE (Medicare) counselors will help attendees understand their plan, as well as other options.
