Congratulations to the Flight winners for putting on a strong performance during the week and battling through the difficult formats each day! Also, a big congratulations goes to Frank D’Entremont & Bob Levy and Helen Eichorn & Linda Boone for winning the 2016 Member-Guest. Fighting through the shootouts, each team put on a strong performance. Team D’Entremont & Levy were able to make it through the 16th, 17th and 18th holes, then had to go into a playoff, which they also tied with the team of Ken and Elijah Sentel. That led to a chip off, which Frank D’Entremont & Bob Levy won to take the victory. Great playing! Helen Eichorn & Linda Boone were able to tie in the shootout to take it into a chip off. On the final chip, Tracy Moore chipped to victory.

Inside T H E L I N E S

Beating a

better player

There are many times, when we step onto the tennis court to play a match, we get the feeling that our opponent is a much better player. It may be true, but it also may be something you are imagining. Either way, we still have to find a way to beat them. How to beat a better player than you can be quite a task, unless you know these tips. The first thing is that you are going to have to be aggressive and go for shots. It isn’t likely that you are going to outlast your opponent, so you need to go after them. Attack, come to the net, drop shot, and try to hit the winner when you can. The second thing you need to do is play the match at a pace that suits you and the score. If you can get the momentum in your favor, try to keep the match pace moving along quickly; vice versa if you are losing. The last thing that you can do is to experiment with different styles of play; maybe try serve and volley, chip and charge, or even try bringing them to the net with a drop shot. Out of all the styles you may find that kryptonite for your opponent, making them get out of their game and giving you the upper hand. The thing that you have to always remember is that you have nothing to lose. In theory, you are supposed to lose to this player. Keep believing and see what happens.
