An Olympic Adventure! By: Lyle

One day, three friends: Biathlon Medalist Darya Domracheva, Speed Skater Sang Hwa Lee, and Ski Jumper Kamil Stoch were spending time together in Sochi after the Olympics.

One day, at their hotel, Sang Hwa received a letter in the mail.

“What do you have there, Sang Hwa?" Kamil asked. "A letter, let me open it," Sang Hwa replied. "It says: A great quest is ahead for you. A great prize you will earn if you find things from where you were born.

"I think its a scavenger hunt!" Darya exclaimed. "What’s the first clue?" Kamil asked. "Find the first clue of where the point in Belarus is farthest above the ocean blue," Sang Hwa replied.

“I think it means for us to go to the highest point in Belarus!” Sang Hwa said. “Let’s start heading to Belarus!" Kamil exclaimed.

So, they take an airplane to Minsk, Belarus. They get off the airplane and start walking throughout the city.

“Did you know that Minsk is the capital of Belarus? Minsk is the place where Belarusian officials decided that their country would become part of the USSR, in 1922, and when they decided that it should leave, in 1991, Darya said.

They went to the Minsk Zoo and the National Academic Big Opera and Ballet Theatre around the Minsk area.

“I know this was fun and all, but let’s continue our hunt. My phone says that Dzerzhinsky Hill is the highest point in Belarus," Kamil said. “Well, let's get going then!" Darya exclaimed.

They drive to the hill. “Ah... Dzerzhinsky Hill, the highest point in Belarus. It stands at 1,135 feet above the ground, Darya said.

“Let's look for the next clue, Kamil said. They search and search and climb to the top of the hill.

“Hey guys, I think I found it!" Sang Hwa exclaimed. “What does it say?” Darya asked. “Great, you found the next clue. Now, head to the oldest mine in the world, start by heading to Poland,” she said.

“Let’s get going then!” Kamil said. They paid their tickets to Poland with Belarusian Rubles. Their flight lands in Warsaw, Poland. They head out into the city.

“Warsaw is the capital city of Poland,” Kamil explained. “Did you girls know that when Germany attacked Poland in 1939, World War 2 started?” “That’s fascinating, Kamil!” replied Darya.

“Hey guys, my phone says that the oldest mine in the world is Wieliczka Salt Mine in Poland! Sang Hwa explained. They went on a car trip to the mine.

“We are at Wieliczka Salt Mine, one of the world’s oldest. Let’s go on a tour, and maybe we find our next clue,” Kamil said. They pay their tour with Polish Zlotys. They head into the mines.

“Wow! This is a lot of salt!” exclaimed Darya. “Yeah, you would think that salt would be the main export of Poland, but it’s not. Main exports of Poland are cars, TV parts, and car parts,” Kamil explained. “Interesting, Kamil!” Sang Hwa said.

At the end of the trip, Darya sees an envelope right by the exit sign. “I FOUND IT!!” she exclaimed. “What does it say?” Kamil asked. “Wow, great for you. Now, here’s the last clue. Now travel to South Korea and find the 14th century palace where your prize is,” she read.

“Now, let’s go to South Korea!” Sang Hwa told her friends. Their plane lands in Seoul. They start walking around the city.

“South Korea has an interesting history in the past century,” Sang Hwa said. “On June 25, 1950, North Korea launched a surprise attack on this city, Seoul. This started the Korean War,” she explained. “That’s interesting, Sang Hwa!” Kamil exclaimed.

“My phone says that an old palace in South Korea is Gyeongbokgung Palace, built in 1395. Let’s check that place out,” Kamil suggested.

They pay a tour bus with South Korean Wons to take them to the palace. When they get there, they start searching for the treasure.

“Guys, is it just me, or am I really hot?” Darya asked. “No, it’s not just you. South Korea has very cold Winters and very hot Summers,” Sang Hwa explained.

“Come on guys, let’s find our treasure!” Kamil told his friends. They search outside, but they couldn’t find anything.

“Let’s look inside,” Sang Hwa suggested. As soon as they walk through the doors, they see a table with items on it.

“Hey, are those our Olympic gold medals?” Darya asked. “I think so, I can’t believe that our treasure was ours all along!” Kamil exclaimed.

“I’ll read the last letter,” Sang Hwa said. “Don’t ask how, but we stole your medals. We wanted you three to learn more about your history and about each other’s countries. Love, your parents.” “Ah, that’s sweet!” Darya said.

“Yep, but I think that we should be heading home, Kamil said. They head back to the airport.

“Well, I had fun! We should do this again some time soon!” Darya told her friends. “Good bye guys! I’ll miss you both!” Kamil said.

Kamil and Darya landed safely in their countries. They will always remember the facts that they learned on their adventure with their friends. THE END
