PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE

President’s Perspective

Think big - All the Time

Have you had your fill of “instant media?” Are you and your firm saturated with offers to better understand “Big Data,” the “Web,” “Social media,” or any of the latest seemingly endless buzzwords that surround our technology world?

by Matt Kramer

Well guess what? Not only are these messages not going to end anytime soon, they actually do have a point. If you can look in a mirror and say that your company, your brand, your customers wouldn’t benefit from you better understanding how to leverage these technologies, well then, I have some ocean front property in Arizona I’d like to sell you. The reality is that we live in a world in which our customers, our members, and our competitors are increasingly developing new ways to interact. Generational changes are happening every day, reinforcing how distinctly different individuals leverage

FEATURE STORY

Online Marketing Videos: From Novelty to Norm

SPACC PRIMARY COLOR SCH

By Chris Duffy, Goff Public

When online users are given a choice between reading text and watching a video on the same topic, two-thirds of people will choose to watch a video. Thanks to the Internet, videos are now more prevalent than ever before; more than 3 billion videos are viewed on YouTube each day. When done right, videos provide an engaging combination of pictures, words and sounds that help companies stand out in this digital era. Whether they are educational, promotional, creative or quirky, videos are a smart way for organizations to share their stories. They often elicit more of an emotional response from audiences than stand-alone text or images, can be viewed at the user’s leisure, and compel visitors to stay on a website for longer periods of time. Video production equipment is less expensive than ever before, which allows more people to create videos. But it also negatively impacts overall production quality. This is why it is important to use an experienced videographer and editor and implement an effective strategic process when creating a video. If the planning is well executed, the actual production of the video will come easily. In the brainstorming stages, be prepared to discuss and make a case for why a video makes sense in that particular situation.

Come up with creative hooks, determine key messages, and develop a uncoated general outline for the video. But don’t jam too much material into the outline.
