YOUTH CORNER: Wow! A big thank you goes out to all who helped organize and host the Youth Retreat this past weekend. Phyllis and I were crushed when we realized the retreat was scheduled during her family reunion in New Mexico. However, we told them to go ahead with the plans. I understand it was a HUGE success and we’d love to see this become an annual event. Thanks also to Blaine Mikulik, Alex Mueller, Diane Weishuhn, Tom Burke, and Mark Haechten for giving presentations during the event. We are also fortunate to be a part of such an active community. Mark your calendars for July 15th for the VBS Hotdog lunch (plan on coming to help set up and cook and serve the meal) and the annual High School Youth Schlitterbahn Trip for July 20th. We have the approval of Walter Holik, Supt. of Wall ISD, to use a school bus for the trip so we’ll not have the expense of taking so many vans this year. Be sure to thank Mr. Holik when you see him. More details will soon be posted. Parent Permission forms will be in the back of the church, so lets begin getting these turned in to the office or to Phyllis and myself. Let’s, everyone, join in praying for RAIN! May the peace of Christ be with you all. ~Deacon Dan SPECIAL REPORT ON THE YOUTH RETREAT: Last Sunday St. Ambrose had the first High School Retreat held at the Rocking Chair Ranch. This was an awesome event. It was such a Spirit-filled retreat which was enriched with speakers like Blaine Mikulik who spoke on judgment and how easy it is to judge others without thinking about the harm it causes. There was volleyball with the ball rolling into the lake a few times, followed by Alex Mueller sharing his views on the Book of Job and how easy it is to get attached to things that belong on Earth, but if we keep our faith in God then all that we need will be given to us. Canoe races, swimming and, of course, people “slipping” into the lake kept everyone cool. Then Mark Haechten wowed everyone with the fact that God’s grace is free and He never stops giving. Mark also challenged us to know our faith so that we can feel comfortable in teaching and defending it. The KC’s provided everyone with a hamburger supper plus desserts before Diane Weishuhn introduced us to a beautiful session on the Book of Ruth and how , like Ruth, our lives will have unbearable loss, but God will always provide for us. Tom Burke walked with us through the parts of the Mass and explained it in such a way that we realized what a blessing we have as Catholics, the real Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist. The special ending came when the sun went down, the air cooled a bit, and even the wind eased up, and we were treated to a candlelight Mass. Fr. Chinna, along with Deacon Allan Lange, celebrated the Eucharist beside the lake and, with everyone singing, we were aware of the presence of Jesus among us. For all those who helped in any way, thank you! But the largest amount of credit goes to the young adults who attended and made this day a success. They are our future and they certainly were the “honored guests at this banquet.”

UPCOMING EVENTS: July 20: High School Youth Group Schlitterbahn Trip. July 27-30: Pictorial Book Photo Sessions.

The implementation of ARISE Together in Christ/LEVANTATE Unamonos en Cristo has be- gun. In March, 2011, the Reaching Out Together Evangelization Workshop was presented at sites throughout the diocese. During this workshop, participants were reminded of “Bringing the Good News of Jesus into every human situation and seeking to convert individuals and society by the divine power of the Gospel itself.” The RENEW International identifies the key reasons for signing up for the Arise Together in Christ process. They are: to know God better, to grow spiritually, to meet new people, to talk about God, to improve ourselves, to put faith into action, to change the way we see the world, to improve relationships, to experience different prayer styles, and to be rejuvenated. Small Community Leader Workshops in English and Spanish will begin in September and Season I—Encountering Christ Today will begin in October. It is time to begin discerning our role in this important ministry. There are two weekends in July on which St. Ambrose parishioners will have an opportunity to receive an informative short overview of “Arise Together with Christ” after Masses. These sessions will be held in the Fellowship Hall after all Masses on the weekends of July 16/17 and July 23/24. Coffee and cookies will be served. Holy Family sessions will be coming soon.
