Recorder’s notes by Oscar Cloutier, email@example.com
n February 4 we celebrated Sahib’s traditional and spectacular Potentates Ball; A gala evening in a beautifully decorated auditorium. The blue and white decorations for the event blended perfectly. The leaders of the decoration committee, namely Sharon Pegararo, Linda Glendinning, Eleanor Wallace, Donna LaBell, Yvonne Pederson and their team did an outstanding job! Music and the entertainment for the evening was provided by the very popular Kim Jenkins and his wife. This was a very special day and evening for our Illustrious Potentate Charles Levan 33°. Our 2010 Imperial Potentate and presently Imperial Recorder Jack H. Jones, and Florida Grand Lodge Secretary and Past Grand Master Richard Lynn (also a Mahi Shriners Past Potentate,) attended.
Hospital Days collection at all the commercial sites went very well this year. Bill Long and Tim Kinchla co-chaired the committee and many hours were put in by both. The financial results will be substantial. For those who do not know, the money collected goes to our transportation fund. This fund is necessary for Sahib Shriners to transport children to the Shriners Hospital for Children. In 2011, the hospital drivers made 385 trips to the Tampa Shriners Hospital for Children. These trips resulted in 1,627 clinic appointments for the year. Kudos goes to our Hospital Chairman Jesus Cabalo and then Transportation Chairman Ken Clark. Keep up the great work nobles!

embership is still one of our top priorities, and raising money is running a close second. With money raising we are trying to fill the gap left by the loss of baseball revenue not only to our clubs but also to the Shrine. We have very capable Divan members and nobles making concerted efforts to achieve our goals. February went well with Hospital Transportation collection reaching towards our goals of filling our pot to aid the transport of our patients. In addition, the Shriner’s Hospital for Children affair in Tampa allowed us to attend meetings Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18 to learn activities and meet important persona of the hospital. The Tampa Board of Director’s dinner held Friday night February 17 was combined with Egypt’s casual evening, prior to the ball, was relaxing, pleasant and the food was scrumptious.
The East/West football game including the tailgate party was well orchestrated by Rocky and Wendy Kearney. Kudos to Rocky and Wendy as they went above and beyond the call. Rocky also coordinated drivers to transport the players to where ever they needed to be. This year the game was held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. It was much more comfortable than the field in Orlando as it was enclosed and there were real seats. Ill. Sir Charles Levan’s Potentates Ball went off well with fun, eating, dancing and drinking of the Camel’s milk. Thanks to all the nobles and their ladies for making our planned events successful and fun. Fun, family and fellowship is what it is all about and my lady and I wish these attitudes carry through this year and for years to come.

ell another East/West Shrine Game is behind us. Sahib had a great tailgate party and got to watch a fantastic football game. Many thanks to all that helped with this great adventure. Shrinedom also got good exposure as a group from our Sahib Shriners helped deliver the players, coaches and referees from the airport to the resort where they stayed. We had a table set up at the airport and there were many travelers who stopped by the table with many questions about Masonry and Shrinedom. Players also had questions. Next year I believe we will be better prepared with literature and brochures to hand out. Wendy reached out with her generosity with a baby gift from the Hillbilly Gals made by our own Donna Jones and presented it to Referee Brad Allen and his expecting wife Twilla for Abigail due in May (see photo on page 8.) The gift was a real lift to them as their luggage was lost in travel and it brought
tears to both of them. If anything, Sahib came to the rescue in the travel department, attendance at the game and above all our Shrine attitude. March is going to be a very busy month. To start the month off on the second we have a Johnny Cash and June Carter Tribute with the Hillbilly Hoedown the next day on the third. For those who work and say they can’t make the afternoon stated meetings the seventh will be an evening meeting at 7:30 p.m. Imperial Potentate Mike Severe will visit us on March 8 for lunch. Saturday the 10th will start at 10:00 a.m. with the Arcadia Rodeo Parade. You’ll have plenty of time to go home to change for the Banjo Band Concert at 7:00 p.m. Like the ponies? March 14 is Sahib Day at Tampa Bay Downs. The 16th is the start of the Sarasota County Fair and running to March 25.The 17th is St. Patrick’s Day with a St. Patty’s Day Dinner . . .continued on page 38
We can’t grow, if they don’t know!
