FOCUS Our church is halfway through our Year of Preparation and we all celebrate how much we’ve already accomplished. To list a few accomplishments, we’ve developed and implemented a streamlined church leadership structure, we’ve improved the building with new windows on the north side, and we’ve strengthened the church finances with an adequate savings account balance. You have welcomed us as your pastors and warmly embraced our family as we join together moving forward into the future. THANK YOU! The first half of 2013 has been full of preparation and we look forward with great anticipation to a Year of Celebration in 2014. In this spirit of preparation, we announce the launch of our Year of Preparation TECH Campaign with a goal to raise $30,000 in June, July and August for specific office, communication and security updates recommended by the Trustees. The TECH Campaign begins Sunday, June 9 and concludes at the end of August and supports the work of preparation in four vital areas:

Technology

upgrades:

funds

to

purchase new computers and software to meet critical, immediate needs in the church office and provide the tools to meet church needs into the future.

Enhanced

communication:

funds

to

better communicate God’s good news to church members, guests, and the community. This will include an enhanced website, software to prepare the newsletter, and communications monitors around the church.

Vol. 2, Issue 44

Campus

6 June, 2013

wi-fi: funds to extend secure

internet access around the entire church campus, which will, for example, give Sunday school classes access to additional online material.

Heightened security: funds for updated security at the nursery entrance with video and remote unlocking capabilities. Please support the TECH campaign through a special financial contribution towards our $30,000 goal. One way for you to contribute is through the “3 X $30” program. Currently, SUMC averages near 300 people in worship each week. If each worshipper gives $30 each month of the three month campaign, we will meet our goal. A pledge card can be found inside this newsletter. Return the pledge cards to the church office or put them in the offering plate on Sunday. Thank you for your support during our Year of Preparation and we ask you to hold the TECH campaign in prayer that it might be another successful step taken along our journey towards our Year of Celebration. Holding you in prayer, Revs. Estee and Jason Valendy

News Annual Conference Offering Central Texas Annual Conference begins this Sunday, June 9. SUMC has historically supported the annual conference offering taken up at this important event of our larger church. This year, the annual conference offering will help establish a Bishop’s Bible Camp for all ages. If you would like to contribute towards the annual conference offering, you may put a check in the offering plate this Sunday or send your contribution into the church office.

Pastoral Emergency Contact When you or your family need pastoral support during an emergency situation, please call the church office during weekday business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. If you need a pastor beyond these hours, you may contact Rev. Jason at (817) 726-9608 or Rev. Estee at (817) 229-5551.

United Methodist Men UMM will meet on Saturday, June 8 at 8:00 a.m. for their monthly breakfast and gathering. All men of the church are invited.

Ladies’ Night Out LNO will meet on Thursday, June 13th at The Cotton Patch restaurant in Lake Worth at 5:45 p.m. and then head to the movies. Nursery will be provided at the church and please provide a snack for your little ones. All women of the church are invited.

Exodus Bible Study Revs. Estee and Jason Valendy will lead a 6 week summer Bible study on the book of Exodus. Why Exodus? Because when we know the stories and the plot line of the book of Exodus, we have more insight into Jewish traditions that influence Christianity. The study will happen on Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. beginning June 19. Nursery provided.

Do You Sew? If So We Can Use You! We are in need of individuals who would like to sew for a project we are doing with the Children's Ministry. We are making 40-50 Worship Bags, aka jewelry pouches, that will be distributed to our children. These Worship Bags will hold items associated with worship so our children can take these home and reenact, or play worship if you will. The volunteers will be provided with the pattern and fabric. If you are interested in assembling a few bags please contact Mary Nell Partin at 817-232-0390 or at marynell@saginawumc.org.

We Need Your Old Tee-Shirts! Cleaning out closets and drawers? Please repurpose your old tee shirts by donating them to VBS to use as paint shirts for the kids. Children's, youth and small adult sizes are needed. Please place them in the tee shirt box by the VBS display. Thank you!

By Kristen & Josh Warthen 2013 Youth Mission Trip The time is almost here for our 2013 Central Texas Conference Youth in Mission trip. This year, we will be working in and around the community of Okmulgee, OK. Every year, CTCYM picks a theme for the trip and this year that theme is “Journey.” No, not the band Journey. We mean “to take a long trip.” When thinking about this year’s theme another word, “Godspeed”, comes to mind. The word Godspeed comes from the Middle English word God spede which means “may God prosper.” This is our hope and prayer for this year’s mission trip and for all of our lives—Godspeed. And so, with that in mind, we would like to invite the congregation of SUMC to join us in wishing the student and adult participants Godspeed on their Journey to Okmulgee, OK as we gather together for worship with you at the 8:30 a.m. service on Sunday, June 16 th.

Invitation for 7th Graders in Fall Kristin and I want to personally invite all students who have just completed 6th grade into the SUMC youth group: Take Action Youth Ministries. During the summer, we have two regular weekly meetings. On Sunday mornings during the Sunday School hour, we have 2-3 different small groups with different topics that your student can choose

from. Our United Methodist Youth program happens on Sundays from 5:00-7:00 p.m. To stay in touch with what is going on in the youth group, visit www.saginawumc.org. Be sure visit our youth page. On the youth page you and your student can sign up to receive text updates, follow us on Facebook and sign up for the SUMC newsletter (if you have not done so already). Parents can sign up to help out with snack supper during our UMY meetings by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. For that matter, anyone who would like to help out by providing a snack supper can sign up via the youth page on the church website.

Adult Volunteers This summer we have scheduled several activities that require adult volunteers. They, however, have not been officially put on the church calendar because we need to get our adults in place first. In place of our normal Jr. High mission trip, we are planning a smaller, local mission project on August 1st - 4th. We are also planning an overnight camping trip in July. For these activities to happen, we need your help. If one or both of these interest you, and you would like more information then please contact me at jwarthen@saginawumc.org

Graduation Invitation Kevin and Teresa Weaver would like to invite our church family to a swimming party to celebrate Kallie’s graduation from High School on June 8 from 1:00 - 9:00 p.m. at 928 Paddington Drive E. The Weaver’s are hosting the party in gratitude to this church family who have shown love and support to Kallie and helped to raise her.
