Singing Singing is fun, rewarding and makes you feel good. It has a multitude of health benefits and it’s a great way to meet new people. We run over 30 different singing classes each week for all abilities, from pop to classical and everything in between including soul, jazz and blues, folk, rock and roll, Broadway classics and opera. With so much to choose from there’s bound to be a choir or band that’s just right.

Guitar Do you have a guitar in the house that you don’t know how to play? We’ll teach you basic chords and strumming techniques using well known songs to help you to progress to our more advanced classes where you’ll learn techniques including riffing, soloing and playing in a band.

Learn how to play those iconic sax solos you’ve loved for years from Baker Street to Careless Whisper! Our beginner classes will teach you how to play sax from scratch and help you get to grips with the basics - even how to put the instrument together. If you’re already playing, we can help you progress to the next level.

Ukulele The ukulele is one of the easiest instruments to learn. With just four strings, you can pick up simple chords and be playing some of your favourite songs in just a couple of lessons. There are a range of classes for more confident players too including our popular Uke Folk group who play folk revival, Celtic and Americana songs. Our Themed Ukulele group is the perfect class for those who enjoy all types of music; each term explores a different theme, the spring term theme will be The Beatles.

Folkworks Tuesday Delve into the North East’s living history in our thriving Tuesday evening Folkworks community and explore the world of folk music, song and dance. Choose from a variety of instruments including fiddle, fretted strings and Northumbrian Pipes. Or why not join one of our many folk bands, from Americana to Folk Rock? Master a local step dancing tradition in our popular clog dance class or have a go at traditional harmony singing in our folk choir.

Silver Programme It’s never too late to discover or rediscover a passion for music and it’s a brilliant way to meet new people. Our Silver Programme is open to anyone over the age of 50 and consists of a range of daytime musical activities including singing, ukulele, saxophone, guitar and a number of exciting rock & pop bands. All of our classes are delivered in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment.
