Horse Association & Club News IONIA HORSE TRAILS ASSOC., cont. details of discounts from local businesses available to card carrying members. We have painted our equipment trailer, and it's being lettered right now. It will look great come spring for all our events. One member resigned this month, but we were lucky enough to have a willing volunteer waiting in the wings. Greg Skeide stepped up last month to be our Trails Chair, coordinating Work Bees and Trail projects. Greg will now be a board member, too. Just a reminder, IHTA is planning a winter ride on Saturday, February 13, 2016. We will meet at the ISRA beach parking lot and ride the trails. It's likely we will rally at a local restaurant after the ride for dinner and a brief meeting. There will be no Tuesday meeting in February. Happy Trails to you all! Hope to see you out there! Kristie Walls, IHTA president KENSINGTON TRAIL RIDERS ASSOCIATION Thank you to all our members at large for coming to our Board Meeting at Bakers Restaurant on January 11th. It was great to have your input on upcoming 2016 events, elections in February, and the organization as a whole. We hope more of you will join us for our next board meeting on March 14 beginning at 7:00 PM at Bakers Restaurant. We will send a reminder around by Infoshare and we will also post it on Facebook. Our events are also posted on our webpage at www.kensingtontrailriders.org. Members will soon be receiving an election ballot by email to vote for our new board members and officers. Your opinion is important to the club, so please remember to vote. Sunday, February 7th is our Annual General Meeting for election of Board Members and Officers and to conduct any other business necessary. This year we are holding it in the Clubhouse at Berwyck Saddle Club, 1477 Berwyck Drive, Milford. The meeting will include a Potluck (please bring a dish to share) and Guest Speaker, farrier Koren Knox. The meeting begins at 6:00 PM. We hope to see you there. The KTRA Annual Banquet and Hoedown will be held on Saturday, March 12 beginning at 6:30 at the Highland Activity Center, 209 N.

John Street, Highland, MI. This year's banquet will be a BYOB and Pass The Dish Dinner (please bring a main dish, side or a dessert). KTRA will supply the main meat dish and dinner set-up (plates, silverware, etc). Cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. For information on how to RSVP for this event, check our website, Facebook page and your Infoshare email a little later on. Our first spring event will be a Work Bee for clearing up the trails for spring riders and our first weekend camp-out June 3 to 5. We will be announcing the date once we know when the snow is gone for good. Volunteers are always needed and it's a great time to bond with friends and give something back to the MetroPark who is so good at keeping our trails in good condition for us. If you have not yet renewed your membership, please contact Joanna Gawrys at asiawolek1967@gmail.com or visit our website to renew online and to pay with PayPal. By the way, all our events can be registered for and paid for online through our website and PayPal. As a reminder for those of you who ride Kensington trails in the winter, a portion of the West Trail will be closed for cross country skiers. You can obtain a skiers map to see what's available for horse trails at http://www.metroparks.com/KensingtonMetropark (map link in the left hand side bar). And if you don't want to ride your own horse, consider a sleigh ride at Kensington! Remember, when you do get out on the trails this winter, you can report a trail problem on our website: www.kensingtontrailriders.org on the main page. We would appreciate it if you would help us keep our trails clear. Hope to see you out on the trails soon!

MI COMPETITIVE MTD ORIENTEERING is the thinking horse sport. As we gear up for the upcoming competitions we sincerely hope that you choose to join us for a ride or two. If you like trail riding, camping, eating and laughing you will love what we do. The reason we call it the thinking horse sport is that you have to be able to follow a map and set a compass when you find a clue. There is a lot of skill involved, a lot of luck and loads of fun. Although this is a speed competition, we have many riders who complete the course at a leisurely pace. There are year end awards for points earned and you receive points for every plate you find. Nationally these points are rolled over from year to year for the horses and the rider. There are several Michigan riders who have accumulated over 2,000 points. This is quite an accomplishment considering each day ride has only ten plates possible. Many years we have at most twenty day rides. This means these dedicated riders have stayed with our sport for many years and attended most of the rides. I believe that above all, this shows that competing in MiCMO remains fun and challenging ride after ride. Be sure to check out nacmo.org if you would like more information about Competitive Mounted Orienteering. We will be putting our ride WWW.SADDLEUPMAG.COM
