Welcome to

ST ANDREW’S

Thanks for coming along to church today. At St Andrew’s, we want to welcome everyone; Christian believers, those seeking faith, skeptics, all who are looking for a spiritual home in Hong Kong. At each Sunday service we seek to learn more about the truths of God from the Bible, and encourage one another in our faith in Jesus. If you’re new, come along to the red welcome table in the north entrance foyer after the service. We’d love to be able to meet you, welcome you personally, and answer any of your questions.

BAPTISM TESTIMONY I grew up in a secular family and we never acknowledged God in our lives. I had several close encounters with God as a teenager through Christian friends but I dismissed them and rejected God. “Thanks but I can manage my own life,” I replied. As I got older I decided to explore faith again. After some searching I identified myself with Buddhist teachings and a self-help book called “The Secret” as my spiritual guides. Through good works and positive living I believed my moral compass was set and thought “I am a good person.“ However, one day a question struck me: “How much good works do I need to be saved?” At that moment my heart sank. Realising Buddhism has failed me my spiritual journey continued. After some twists and turns I stumbled upon the doors of St. Andrew’s and walked in. The sermons corrected my previous false preconceptions about Christianity. I was also invited to explore more at the Life Explored course. Admittedly, I went to LE with a combative attitude hoping to find inconsistencies in Christian theology and ways to disprove the divinity of Christ and the resurrection. Needless to say I failed miserably in this silly endeavour! Instead, I learned about the true meaning of Jesus’ sacrifice, His selfless love for us and how sinful I was and am in desperate need of a saviour. All this opened my eyes and my mind. God’s generosity and unwavering love touched me deeply. I finally realised I can never do enough to please God yet the work has already been done by Him through Christ. Some months later God finally opened my heart to accept Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. I want to live more like Jesus and commit my life for Him. I don’t worry about my life so much now for I am at peace knowing I am reconciled with God and that He is with me always. I am also more patient and forgiving than before, for God has forgiven me. I hope more people will hear God’s words and follow Him. He will transform your life as He has with mine and fill it with love, peace, and freedom. Dennis Chan Member of St Andrew’s Church

Bible Reading

Notes

Guidance - Matthew 6:25-34

Matthew 6:25-34 25

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
