BUBBLOASIS 1B ENVIRO

RHINO, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP A concrete and glass getaway intended for Resolute, Nunavut. These small public pavillions rely entirely on sunlight for heat, as the concrete and stone are intended to act as thermal masses. The domes are modular and allow for customizable configurations as well as optimal resistance against strong winds. Larger units feature a partially glazed, rotatable roof, that is manually controlled by a turnstile to allow for more or less sunlight.

AUTOCAD, ILLUSTRATOR, RHINO, VRAY, PHOTOSHOP TEAM: FELIX CHEONG, SABRINA LEUNG A steel pavillion designed to be built on the Chicago shoreline with a focus on the theme of curvature. It features structural and acoustic properties inspired by a nautilus shell. The sounds of the shore and city and are amplified and reflected towards the glass viewing platform located under the shell’s chamber. The pavillion can also be used for public events and outdoor dining. DAY TIME RENDER

AUTOCAD, RHINO, VRAY, ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP The houseboat is a compact dwelling designed for a vacationing individual and built on pontoons so that it can be anchored and left to float on water. The roof structure consists of tilting solar panels to accomodate any position relative to the sun. The interior features a palette of white and dark wood with accented lighting embedded within the walls. A glazed, sloping south wall facing a generous patio area allows for an abundance of natural light. The bedroom is located on a cozy loft area above the living area.

MOSS PARK COMPLEX 3A STUDIO

AUTOCAD, SKETCHUP, RHINO, VRAY, ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP A development for a downtown Toronto block near the Moss Park, consisting of a public school, coop residence, library and retail shops. The complex has a focus on connecting the indoor spaces and a variety of outdoor areas, with rooftop patios on the school and public library. Each building typology is also interconnected on the interior, creating a very internalized circulation system within the block. The co-op residence features exterior staircases connecting outdoor balconies that overlook the central playground on each floor.

PENUMBRAL REVERIE 3B STUDIO

RHINO, GRASSHOPPER, VRAY, ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP, LASER CUTTING TEAM: NASHIN MAHTANI, SABRINA LEUNG, NATHAN TUNG A conceptual project based on parametric design inspired by a dragonfly wing. The process involved form-finding experiments to obtain a basic structure, followed by digital studies that explored algorithms and patterning. This pattern involved the transition of squares to pentagons and hexagons. Prototyping, in conjunction with digital modeling, helped us to resolve and further develop the design and specific details. Our architectural proposal is a botanical park with an outdoors market, located in Cagliari. The structure hosts several species of edible plants. As the building structure htas varying densities and porosities, thereby admitting varying amounts of sunlight into specific areas, the plants are located in accordance to the amount and intensity of sunlight they require.

3B STRUCTURES

HARD MAPLE, ACRYLLIC, MANUAL WOOD WORKING, CNC MILLING TEAM: NASHIN MAHTANI, SABRINA LEUNG A chair prototype designed specifically for Walt Disney. The intention was to portray Walt’s philosophy of curiosity leading to great achievements and how “it all started with a mouse.” The chair begins as a compact stool, but upon exploration, also unfolds to create a chair for two. It is a chair that can be enjoyed by anyone and shared with anyone, just like many of Disney’s animated works.
