Income can be described as both active and passive. Active income takes time and requires effort. This is typically earned from an employer or from running your own business. Passive income streams from rental property, royalties, or investment income. You don't have to spend countless hours to earn the income, it grows on its own. Building passive income can involve large investments in the beginning. For example, in order to add a rental property to your portfolio, you must first purchase the property and handle ongoing maintenance. If you're looking to bring in multiple streams of revenue here is where to start:

1.) YOUR DAY JOB This is your most stable form of income and you should feel comfortable paying expenses from this paycheck alone.

2.) YOUR SIDE HUSTLE This must be something you enjoy doing as it requires time and effort.

3.) YOUR PASSIVE INCOME

DIVERSIFY YOUR INCOME Wilson Wicker AVP, Commercial Relationship Manager The term, "side hustle" is tossed around in casual conversations and used amongst those on social media platforms to describe secondary sources of income. Though the lingo is popular in today's fast paced economy the practice of diversifying one's income has been stressed by advisors time and time again. We're here to help you on that path.

This could come from investing in the stock market, owning rental properties, or selling products online. Financial freedom takes time and patience. A diversified income can not only build wealth, but also provide protection against economic change and employment status. Diversifying by adding more active income, such as starting a dog walking gig or driving for a transportation service, is a way to help pay off debt faster and save money. Adding passive income, like investing in financial markets or owning real estate, can provide opportunities for additional income with less oversight. Keep in mind that passive income typically calls for a larger investment up front. As your local bank, we are here for every step of your financial journey. Though the world is edging its way back to normal, there’s unfortunately one thing the pandemic never slowed down: Cybercriminals. Those seeking to make a quick buck off companies with social engineering attacks and malware seemed to double their efforts this year. Did you know:

THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND FOUND THAT THERE IS AN AVERAGE OF 2,244 CYBER ATTACKS PER DAY (ONE EVERY 36 SECONDS). INTERPOL REPORTED SMALL TO MEDIUM SIZED BUSINESSES ARE BEING TARGETED AT AN ALARMING RATE. THE US FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, IN A RECENT 6MONTH PERIOD, HAD SEEN OVER 128,000 PHONE SCAMS THAT COST VICTIMS $108 MILLION. This makes regular reminders about the role you play in keeping your organization cybersecure all the more important. Here are some helpful tips to keep you secure:

INTERNET & PASSWORD SECURITY Kimberly West VP, Director of Information Technology

"YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY IN KEEPING YOUR ORGANIZATION SAFE!"

CHANGE EASY PASSWORDS TO LONG PHRASES, SUBSTITUTING LETTERS FOR NUMBERS AND SYMBOLS. LOCK YOUR COMPUTER WHEN LEAVING IT UNATTENDED. TEXT MESSAGES WITH YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION CAN STILL BE FRAUDULENT. BE MINDFUL OF PUBLIC WI-FI, NOT ALL ARE SAFE. HOVER YOUR CURSOR OVER LINKS TO CHECK THE URL. SCAN EMAILS FOR GRAMMATICAL ERRORS. VERIFY URGENT INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE TAKING ACTION. Hackers aren’t just about convincing people to click on links and download malware. Criminals will use text messages, instigate phone calls, and even show up at your door. Stay vigilant and protect your company from a devastating attack.
