RYE YMCA SESSION 3: JANUARY 28-APRIL 2, 2023 21 LOCUST AVENUE, RYE Y STUDIOS: 1037 BOSTON POST ROAD, RYE 914-967-6363 WWW.RYEYMCA.ORG RYE YMCA 2023 PROGRAM GUIDE FAMILY TIME!
SIDE BY SIDE
Dear Friends,
One thing I’ve learned during my Y career is that partnerships—with non-profits, businesses, elected officials, community leaders, and others—can make all the difference when you’re trying to get something done.
The Rye Y is fortunate to have strong relationships with a wide range of groups and individuals. We’ve teamed up with the Carver Center to bring our Safety Around Water drowning prevention initiative to Port Chester families. We’ve partnered with Rye Recreation on numerous programs, including the use of its tennis courts for our Pickleball classes. We’ve connected with organizations like Open Door Family Medical Centers, the Rye Nature Center, and several local food pantries around community service projects. And when we needed help after flooding from Hurricane Ida devastated our building, our partners were there for us.
One of the most exciting partnerships during my first six months at the Rye Y is our new collaboration with St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mamaroneck, where we are opening a new nursery school program. Recognizing the ongoing and critical need for child care in the Sound Shore area, the Y is renting classroom and multi-use space in the church—a win for the Y, for St. John’s, for young children and for working families.
This program, which will serve up to 80 children aged 18 months- five years, embodies the word partnership. I am grateful to St. John’s and to the all of the community leaders who came out to celebrate our ribbon cutting on January 6. And I am grateful for the hard work, and commitment of the Y’s staff and board members who helped make this possible.
Thanks to our community partners, we can dream bigger, achieve more, and make a greater impact for those who need the Y most. Here’s to our work together in 2023!
Sincerely,
Sabrina Murphy CEO
Y CARES
As a nonprofit charitable organization, the Rye Y is committed to keeping our programs and services affordable to all. Our donor-funded Y Cares Financial Assistance program makes that commitment possible. Through Y Cares, children grow in confidence, make friends and learn new skills at summer camp. Working parents can relax knowing that their children are safe and nurtured at the Y’s child care programs. Seniors stay active and engaged.
Y Cares also supports free community programs, including LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, which offers hope and healing to cancer survivors; and Safety Around Water, our drowning prevention initiative for young children. If you would like to inquire about financial assistance, please contact Barbara Hughes, Membership Engagement Director, at barbarahughes@ryeymca.org. All applications are kept confidential. If you would like to support Y Cares through a gift to our Annual Campaign, please contact Susan Olson, Development Director, at susanolson@ryeymca.org.

Strong Swimmers, Confident Kids:
The Rye YMCA has been a longstanding water safety advocate and swim school in the community for 100+ years. Since the summer of 2020, we have followed a more general swim curriculum but are excited to announce that we will be reintroducing our formal progressive swim lesson program this fall!
The swim program will focus on building a strong foundation for swimmers to learn the fundamentals of swimming. As participants go through the curriculum they will shift from being water safe, to learning skills that will develop their stroke and technique, followed by developing stamina and endurance. During each 9-week session, participants will develop confidence and strength in the skills they are learning.
In order to maximize class time and efficiency of each lesson, it is important that all participants that are enrolling have the required skill set in the qualifications listed under each class. Participants who do not meet the skills required in the qualifications section will be asked to withdraw from the class, with no guarantee that a spot is available in a different level. Please use our lesson selector to sign up for the most appropriate level. You can also attend an open evaluation time to help decipher the appropriate level (optional – highly encouraged for efficiency). Please click here to view current times. Please make note that qualifications of swimmers vary per age group. A pre-school participant in stage 3, will not qualify for a school-age stage 3.
