THE CONCEPT IS BUILDING AS BOTH FILTER FOR PEOPLE AND FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS. A FILTER OF PUBLIC SPACES SEPERATES THE PEDESTRIANS ON THE STREET FROM RESIDENTS AND THEIR SPACES. WHILE THE TRANSVERSE FILTER OF THE LAYERED MATERIAL OPACITIES ALLOWS FOR WIND AND LIGHT TO PASS WHEN NEEDED AND BLOCKS IT WHEN ITS NOT. THIS CAN BE DIRECTLYCONTROLLED BY THE RESIDENTS USING OPERABLE WOODEN SLAT SHADES SPECIFIC TO EACH UNIT. THUS PASSIVELY COOLING EACH UNIT AND PROVIDIDNG A KINETIC QUALITY TO THE SOUTHERN FACADE OF THE BUILDING.

habitech 11 4th year design+build

the mission of the habitech program is to provide a new home for a deserving low income family while allowing the students of the architecture program to gain real world experience. the family that is chosen must contribute a certain amount of “sweat equity hours before being eligible to move in. the students are essentially a design build architecture firm for the next 6 months of school. the home is designed from thanksgiving until january, and once all the permits are pulled and the documents are complete, the construction begins. the construction phase of the project is done mostly by the students while maintaining a strict completion schedule by the day of graduation [may 18th]. our group was under the supervision of faculty chair kevin stevens.
