Inside Cromer’s New Accessible Toilets Cromer’s Visitor Centre has been fitted with Changing Places assisted accessible facilities

North Norfolk District Council, with supplier Closomat, have installed a Changing Places assisted accessible toilet in the Cromer Visitors Centre building.

With Council investment, Cromer’s Visitors Centre now has one of the most advanced and accessible facilities available. The Changing Places toilet provides accessibility at the focal point for the whole North Norfolk area, making it more equipped for the increased tourist interest in the town. Project Support Officer Darren Payne explained that “Without such toilet facilities, tens of thousands of disabled people are deprived of enjoying numerous activities most of us take for granted, as they can’t find suitable toilet facilities. In worst case scenarios, they face having to be changed on the floor, or just not visit somewhere”

The Changing Places toilets provide users with a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench and either a tracking or mobile hoist system. They are sufficiently spacious, with due care and attention paid towards the requirements of the user. Each toilet holds adequate space in the changing area for the user and up to two carers, with a centrally placed toilet (with room) either side and a screen or curtain to provide privacy. They are

equipped with a non-slip floor, large waste bins for disposable pads and a wide tear-off paper roll to cover the benches, upholding cleanliness.

Cllr. Emma Spagnola said: “Having a Changing Places in Cromer is going to make such a difference to so many disabled adults, children and their families. Not only for local people but for tourists too, for example, I am aware of two families who are already planning their summer holidays here because this facility will make the town so much more accessible. Everyone is entitled to have this basic need met and I am very proud of NNDC for jumping on board and providing this. I am looking forward to see more rolled out across the District.”

Closomat has become the leader in the design, supply, installation and subsequent maintenance of Changing Places; visit their website for support information for all involved in the specification and build process.

The Council Cromer Changing Places facility is the first of 7 planned across North Norfolk, with one planned for each town; Proposed facilities in Fakenham and Wells-Next-The-Sea are due to begin construction in early 2020.

ROAD TO EVERYWHERE

The county of big skies and beaches Is the county where Nelson was born, Where undulating farmland Borders the purple-red light of the dawn.

They may call it the road to nowhere But with millennia of history unique, Shaped by the Wash and North Sea’s coastline – Though ebbing away as we speak.

With ancient stones, cathedrals, museums, Norwich, the Fine City, stands tall. War survivor, revived, multi-cultured – Confident beyond the city wall. Rich-harvested fields, ploughed and scattered. Coastal waters yield seafood and power. Inland stately homes and royal turrets. History-laden churches with circular tower.

No motorway arteries, but reed-swaying Broads. The county of tradition at ease. Village-green patchwork and character-laden towns. Norfolk’s thousand good reasons which please.
