Rutgers-Newark Falls To Rutgers-Camden in Final Game

By Ulysses Achonye

he Rutgers-Newark women’s volleyball team’s ended their season on a bad note after being swept by the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors. The Scarlet Raiders played with the same weak intensity that plagued them all season. The game scores were 25-18, 25-19, and 25-15. “We were very complacent,” said Rutgers-Newark head women’s volleyball coach Jason Madsen. It was senior night in the Golden Dome but besides sophmore middle blocker Sharee Gordon, nobody played with any extra eagerness. Gordon played like it was her senior night and led the team with 10 kills to go along with just one error on 18 attacks. She was really a force

around the net. The Scarlet Raiders as a team, were outmatched all game. They were slow reacting to the ball and miscommunications between players really hurt their chances at winning. The loss which drops the Scarlet Raiders to 8-16 on the season, means the Scarlet Raiders will closeout the season without having won a single in-conference match. This season was a good learning experience for a young team that includes 11 out of 14 players on the team being freshman or sophomores. Coach Madsen will look to improve on next season and has already hit the recruiting trail. “Recruiting is going well so far. We have a lot of girls interested. It’s a matter of getting them on campus and showing them what Rutgers-Newark has to offer,” said Madsen.
