Alumni Weekend Update

On behalf of the Brothers of the Wisconsin Gamma Chapter of Phi Delta Theta, I would like to extend my greetings to the friends and alumni of our fraternity. As the first semester comes to a close we are looking forward to the holidays and hope that you and your families have a happy and safe holiday season. This semester has been very exciting here at Ripon College. Many of our brothers have once again contributed greatly to the Red Hawks successful football season. We have also seen many new changes on campus this

Recruiting this year has been off to a great start. Besides hosting our three scheduled recruiting events, we have hosted a number of other unscheduled events. Our first event was the first Monday night Green Bay Packer game. The event consisted of a cookout and watching the game in the lounge on the projector. We had roughly 20 freshmen attend. Our second was a

Sunday afternoon Packer game against the Chicago Bears. Once again, we had a cookout and watched the game in the lounge with the projector. Our third event was our annual Casino Night. We changed the lounge into a casino and played Black Jack, Craps, Texas Hold’em and other casino games. By playing the games players win fake money and at the end of the

night, can bid on various prizes. Recruiting this year overall has been going very well for us. We are shooting for a recruitment class of about 10-15 guys which would be great because as we will be losing about 10 seniors after this year. Adam Firgens Recruitment Chair

The brothers of Phi Delta Theta continued their excellence on the gridiron in 2008. Ten members helped Ripon College to an 8-2 record and a second-place finish in the Midwest Conference. The Red Hawks continued their dominance over hated Lawrence College, beating the Vikings 42-14 to mark their eighth consecutive victory in the rivalry and 12th out the last 13. New to the RC coaching staff this year was Phi Delt alum Tom Miller ‘08. After playing under Head Coach Ron Ernst for the past two years, Miller came back to assist with the defensive line while finishing his last semester. The Red Hawks offense had another solid year putting scoring over 30 points per game and finishing 14th in Division III with an average of 252.7 rushing yards per game. Factoring into the offensive success were senior wide receivers Brian Felix and Robert Bergfeld along with junior running backs Jared Parr and Tyler Ruppert.

Brothers #26 Josh Kraemer, #7 Vince Spratte and #40 Adam Firgens against Carroll College

The Ripon defense was again one of the best in the league giving up only 12.6 points per game with opponents going 13-for-29 on scoring attempts within the red zone. Both were tops in the MWC while ranking sixth and first in the nation respectively. All-American safety Josh Kraemer was a staple for the defense and now is fourth all-time in school history and fifth

Rugby Club Update The Ripon College Rugby Football Club will take the pitch again this spring. The club, which was disbanded in the mid-1990’s, was reorganized

last year by Phi Delta Theta alum Tom Miller and is playing under social status for the time being. After a very successful first season that saw the club finish 8-3 and take third-place at UW-Platteville’s Mudfest

Others who contributed on defense were defensive back Vince Spratte, linebackers Adam Firgens and Justin Bruehl, and defensive linemen Ray Anderson and Paul Braun.

Alumni Relations Update I would like to introduce myself, Casey Totten, as the individual responsible for alumni relations of the Wisconsin Gamma Chapter of Phi Delta Theta. I hope this letter finds everyone in high spirits and excited for our alumni golf outing this spring. We have contacted Tuscumbia Golf Course in Green Lake and have reserved nine holes of golf for our annual alumni weekend. However, we need to know how many people will be planning on golfing, needing to rent clubs, and attending dinner. We

ask that you send us a confirmation of attendance to the golf outing as well as a partial deposit of $20.00 by February 28, 2009. The deposit will be refundable up until March 22, 2009. In addition, all deposits will be refunded if the course is unfit for golfing due to weather. Unfortunately, we will not have a final cost for the event until the time of our spring newsletter due out the first week in March.

Please send your name and deposit to Phi Delta Theta, Attn: Alumni Relations 600 Campus Drive, Ripon, WI 54971. Checks should be made payable to Phi Delta Theta. Yours in the Bond, Casey Totten Alumni Relations and Social Chair Wisconsin Gamma
