My best gift was a 99-cent pencil sharpener. That’s right, a pencil sharpener I thoughtlessly grabbed at the register while buying balloons for my daughter Nickol’s birthday celebration. I overheard Nicky begging her mom for a sharpener she needed for school, but my wife was so busy with planning a party that she didn’t pay attention to Nicky’s request.
I will never forget my wife’s astonished face when she was looking at our ten year old girl jumping for joy after opening her last birthday present which happened to be my pink pencil sharpener. This modest present came last following a dozen nicely wrapped boxes filled with expensive toys and new outfits. Nonetheless, it was the one that got her the most excited because it was the one thing she really wanted at the moment. Do you want to know a sure way of finding a perfect gift for someone? Ask that person to guess what it is that you got them as a present. Allow them three guesses, and there you have it, three things they want to receive the most as a gift. When you think about Russian winters, what do you see? No doubt a dark icy street with dim flickering lights and a couple of huge brown bears trudging down the sidewalk? Well, you aren’t alone. Throughout most of the world, there seems to be an established stereotype that Russia is a country of everlasting winter and constant heavy snowfall. Although this stereotype is not completely inaccurate, the average Russian winter can actually be considered quite enjoyable and is an excellent opportunity to discover what a genuine Russian winter is all about. So without further ado, here are 5 wonderful ways anyone can experience the undeniable charm that exists in Russian winters.
ICE SAFARIS LAKE BAIKAL, SIBERIA Imagine a world that is purely full of dazzling blue ice. Wherever you look you see the reflection of the clear sky and tall glaciers gleaming above you; a winter wonderland. This is one of Siberia's most famous attractions Lake Baikal. Lake Baikal is considered one of the most beautiful and deepest fresh water lakes in the world. Throughout the winter months, a variety of activities are offered around the lake including exotic one-day excursions to the lake itself. Most ice safaris go along the shore of Lake Baikal. However, you are also given the chance to take a car out onto the frozen lake and walk around on the ice. Lake Baikal is sure to project an unforgettable image into your head.

Casual comfort rules men’s fashion in everyday life. Most men appreciate feeling at ease while rocking their favorite pair of jeans or joggers. However, even the least sophisticated guys have to put on a suit and tie once in a while. Be it for a job interview, a friend’s wedding, or even a Holiday party. While the type of suit you wear depends on your personal style, there are some basic menswear rules that must be followed at all times. Here are five essentials you should remember to always look sharp in a suit. 22

Shirt
Your jacket sleeve should never completely cover your shirt. Use the rule of thumb to make sure that your shirt sleeve peeks just right. Bend your arm and interlock your fingers placing your thumb on the top of your hand. The visible band of your shirt cuff should be about the size of your thumbnail.
Tie
The width of your tie should correspond to the type of your jacket lapel. A thin lapel calls for a narrow tie while a wide lapel should be paired with a classic tie. The color of your tie should be lighter than your jacket but darker than your shirt.
Trousers
If you are wearing skinny pants, they should barely touch the top of your shoes. For the classic fit, your trousers should cover the knot of your shoelaces. Your pants should create a small wrinkle in the front and fall no longer than the top of your heel in the back.
Accessories
Wear a pocket square in the front pocket of your blazer for style and a cotton handkerchief in the back pocket of your pants for basic necessities. Add a contemporary twist by wearing a lapel pin on your jacket.

Under the water lie all the obstacles that you had to overcome trying to reach success, including all the hard work, dedication, sacrifices and even failures that you had to go through to achieve what you have today. A story of
Much the same as many of us, Natasha was searching for something that she could fall in love with. Not just a standard day-to-day job, but rather something that could ignite a fire within her and that she could look forward to every day. This was when she discovered the joy of blogging.
Originally, Natasha started a cooking blog in 2009 for the purpose to share recipes and events with close family and friends, “we wanted to document and explore our Slavic cooking heritage and there really weren’t any good trusted recipe sources in 2009, so we started our own.” It turned out that many other people and fellow bloggers were interested in exploring the art of Ukrainian and Russian cuisine and Natasha's Kitchen started swiftly gaining popularity. Eventually, blogging became Natasha's full-time career and her husband, Vadim, was able to quit his job and help his wife with the blog. Presently, Natasha's Kitchen attracts an average of 1.5 million visitors a month and features over 600 different Slavic recipes. Many of these Slavic recipes are particularly popular and even land a space on the first page of Google and get featured in acclaimed media. Be that as it may, the journey to becoming the owner of a nationally recognized food blog was definitely not a simple one. Before starting her blog, Natasha worked as a realtor for four years and acquired a Bachelor’s Degree in Business as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing several years later, “I was a realtor to get me through business school (because I’ve always wanted to have a business), and while I was a realtor I learned about blogging. I graduated from business school when

the economy crumbled, so I took the practical route and got my Bachelor’s degree in nursing. I’m not one to sit still." Working as a nurse, as well as taking care of a family, definitely had its challenging moments; however, this did not erode Natasha's spirit, "My role as a nurse taught me that I could do anything that I put my mind and heart to. I think back on my night shifts on one of the most difficult floors of the hospital and realized that if I can do that, anything else that comes my way is cake!” Even after discovering a passion for cooking and blogging, there were still many challenges ahead. One of the most challenging moments in Natasha’s history of blogging was "trying to juggle everything and finding the balance between being a good Mom and wife while running a business." Every day in food blogging can be considered a hassle, "we work really hard to make it look easy." Nevertheless, after a long day of blogging, hearing comments from the readers is what really makes it all worth it, "the picky 3-year-old that LOVED the chicken soup, the wife who overheard her husband saying that she was an amazing cook, or the in-laws who that were incredibly impressed by a new brides kitchen skills, the list goes on and on." In the end, there really is no specific formula for achieving your dreams and to being successful. However, there are pieces of advice that you can tell yourself to stay motivated and on-track towards your definition of success. A piece of advice that Natasha likes to remind herself and her blog readers of is “don’t be so hard on yourself, and don’t compare your own God-given talents and abilities with anyone else’s.” Ergo, don’t be pushed by your problems, but instead be led by your dreams. Maybe you too can create a wondrous cooking blog.

The Cinderella story has long been an inspiration for girls all around the world. For decades this fairytale, inspired thousands of young women to believe that someday they might find themselves in a kingdom of their own. The story of our featured guest, Katrina Ponina, is proof that dreams do come true if one is willing to put in the effort to chase them.
Katrina is the owner of BOHO Coats, an exponentially growing start-up that has made a name for itself in the fashion industry. BOHO offers unique handmade faux fur coats that are custom designed for each customer. Like most start-ups stationed in the Bay Area and Silicon Valley, BOHO is not only a fashion brand, but also an online platform that allows customers from all over the world create their unique designs by using online fabric catalog and customization tools at the website. A little over a year old, Katrina’s company has already been featured in magazines, fashion shows, and honored to attend San Francisco Fashion Week 2016. The company has also recently added a full throttle production facility to keep up with the growing number of orders. Launching a successful start-up wasn’t the only milestone in Katrina’s life during this past year. Last November she won the Miss Russian California state beauty pageant and became the face of the Slavic American community for the year of 2016.

She successfully tried marketing, acting, and modeling while listening to her heart to find her true calling. It didn’t take long to discover her passion. Inspired by San Francisco culture that encourages self-expression and conservation, Katrina began to make festival faux-fur coats for herself and her friends. Her little hobby suddenly became a great success. She followed her passion and decided to quit her 9-to-5 marketing job to dive into the unpredictable world of start-ups. It was scary and exciting at the same time. Katrina’s company Boho Coats successfully combined San Francisco Tech culture and free-spirited festival style. Katrina’s coats made a statement proving that faux fur can be just as beautiful and stylish as the real thing. The styles allow fashionistas look stylish without hurting animals. Boho Coats’ idea resonated with many. The company began receiving orders from all over the US and eventually got customers from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Russia. GREAT RENO HOT AIR BALLOON RACE The Great Reno Balloon Race claims to be the largest free hot air ballooning event in the world. This annual festival features almost one hundred hot air balloons and brings together 120,000 people on average. The festival starts before dawn with the Glow in the Dark show. Several large colorful hot air balloons light up to the music and take off into the morning skies to greet the rising sun. Once the sun comes out dozens of other giant, fancy-shaped balloons begin to pop-up all around the astonished observers. People are welcome to watch the entire launching process from just a few feet away. Balloons differ in shapes and sizes, and cover the entire horizon soaring above the city of Reno.
CARMEL SANDCASTLE CONTEST This event will take you back to your childhood when you could play in the sun all day long building sand castles on the beach. American Institute of Architects and the City of Carmel-bythe-Sea took this iconic activity to the next level by holding an annual Sandcastle Contest. The event features incredible sand architecture which varies from amateur exhibitions to huge work of art sand sculptures. Participants have only four hours to put together their exhibitions, building with nothing but sand and water. They start building at eight in the morning and present their work OCTOBER 23 to judges and guests at twelve noon. The sculptures fascinate with their complexity and size, especially given the simplicity of Carmel-by-the-Sea, building materials and time limitation.
