Ruritans believe the most important benefit of membership is the opportunity to work in fellowship with people who, like them, have a desire to make their communities better places in which to live. In addition to that very important benefit, Ruritan members also receive a high quality membership card, and a national magazine of Ruritan news and community service tips. Free leadership training and other programs!

The Grand Junction Chapter was established in Feb 1981. Our chapter is a civic service organization with the purpose of creating a better understanding between people and, through volunteer community service, make Grand Junction community a better place to live and work. We survey the needs of Grand Junction community, and then work to meet those needs. Our Club provides and coordinates a wide range of community improvement projects and activities, including: community fund-raisers, and scholarships to deserving students.

Ruritan Mission The first Ruritan Club was chartered May 21, 1928, in Holland, Virginia. Since that first club, Ruritan has grown throughout the United States and has become "America’s Leading Community Service Organization." The club’s charter members unanimously adopted "Ruritan" as the organization’s name. The word is a combination of the Latin words for open country "ruri" and small town "tan," interpreted as pertaining to rural and small town life.
