WAD 2019 Bus Stop Competition Top 10 Finalist

The project brief seeks to rejuvenate the bus stop at Pasar Chowrasta., Penang. Based on our site visit, we identified 3 main problems of the existing bus stop – poor seating arrangements,

The project is our third collaboration

with civil engineers. The brief is to design a ‘Flagship’ building that has two ‘lives’ – a showcase for YTL’s Brabazon Bristol development in the first 10 years, and later a national centre for advanced technology and local aerospace industry. Today being the home to industry big players

Rolls-Royce,

Airbus

BAE Systems, we envisage that the redevelopment of former Filton Airfield will attract even more tech companies to the area. Hence, we position our building to be a multi-functional venue for encountering like-minded

solvers, exchanging valuable thoughts, and ultimately for inspiring new creations. The building is divided into an auditoria wing and an exhibition wing for ease of organization and circulation. The two wings are expressed as distinct individuals

re-connected by the resultant “negative” space in between the two wings, which is activated through a glazed atrium as a place for arrival, conversation and observation. Y3 - MIXED-USE BUILDING

The brief calls for a design of mixedused compound where the original building was burnt down in a fire at Campo Drio Il Cimitero in Venice. A community centre is designed so spillout of activities from within the building could revive the campo life, creating a wider positive impact for Venice in the long run. Addressing the increasing numbers of elderly in Venice, the building expands the existing Italian Red Cross Office that provides weekly food bank for the elderly. It also adds an office for Age International, as the chosen NGO to curate activities to engage the old with kids in a bid to remove loneliness among the elderly. GP and pharmacy are also provided for easier access to health services within the building. A

height glazing is also incoporated to further celebrate the traditional craft with outsiders, whilst providing some residential apartments on the upper floor for housing demands.

Greeted by the triple height glazing offering views of activities right through the heart of the building, drawing you towards it as you approach.. The light from within will also illuminate the once dark campo after dusk.

Arriving at the residential floor, the courtyard forms a welcoming lobby and a place where fellow residents could enjoy the sun in private away from tourists.. Duplex units are designed and arranged so that they all open into the courtyard to encourage social interaction between residents, forming a closeknitted community.

BEATING THE OFFSIDE TRAP Y3 - URBAN DESIGN The project is the second collaboration between both architecture and civil engineering students, a unique setting in our university, to develop skills in working and communicating between different design disciplines. The brief is to design a footbridge across Limehouse Cut with supporting accomodations to create a new urban space at the site located in Poplar, in hopes to break the offside trap. Poplar is an isolated suburb of

London and one of the most deprived areas in the U.K. which is currently undergoing regeneration. On our visit there, we heard a lot of anxieties from local residents who felt being pushed away by recent new developments. Thus, we felt that our intervention has to recognise problems of affordability and insufficient public spaces, to create positive change which benefits the people who need it most.

BEATING THE OFFSIDE TRAP Y3 - URBAN DESIGN

In our design, we wanted to celebrate the area’s cultural diversity and reduce social and economic inequality by integrating everyone with access to an urban playable space with a street food market designed for families and children to enjoy. As such, we created a habitable bridge with a street food market and

shelthered underneath a playable roof space. Stairs and slides are created beside the truss members for kids to have fun, climbing up and down along the bridge. The scheme also uses food’s universal ability in bringing people together by providing a platform for different local cultures to cook and sell their own cuisine, which in turn creates employment opportunities.

METAL PAVILION Y1 - PAPILIO

The brief asked for a pavilion to display of student works from the Architecture programme. It is to be a physical representation of the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering of the University of Bath. It is constructed using the allocated metal skeletal of unequal angle and clad in brass sheets. The site is the lake at the centre of campus and will be accessed via a footbridge from the south. The design

TIMBER DISPLAY BOOTH Y1 - POT

The brief is to design a beguiling, object responsive, timber structure which will promote the object and act as a foil to the contents. The object given is a porcelain bowl – deemed as the very first in Europe – elegant and extravagant in form. Inspired by its significant history, it should be the centre of attention. Hence, a similar bowl-shaped structure is chosen. The slanted repetitive timber pieces

DAIDALA SCULPTURE Y1 - WEIGHTLESSNESS The brief is to design and build a 1 : 1 sculpture that encapsulates the idea of ‘Weightlessness’ in a collaboration between

C’arch Architecture + Design I have completed both my 6-month architectural placement at C’arch Architecture + Design in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia in 2018 and 2019. C’arch was founded in 1992 in Malaysia. It is a medium sized firm with about 20 employees.The core of the firm is rooted in modern architecture and applying sustainable principles. Throughout my work experience, I have participated and observed on a range of projects from RIBA Work Stage 0 up till Stage 7. I have worked closely with architects in assisting them. I have also participated in several client-architect meetings and attended multiple in-house and external CPDs.

Competition Presentation A competition organised by a local developer for a design proposal for a landmark wellness centre in their new township. I helped in creating digital model on Sketchup and create a sequence of illustrations to present the concept and design development for the proposal.

BANDAR HARAPAN, CYBERJAYA Feasibility Study It is a masterplan to create a sustainable environment for affordable housing of about 20,000 units. It aims to have education institutions froming central spine of the development to help break the poverty cycle and explore incremental housing typology. I participated in discussion on different challenges faced by the underprivileged during the concept design stage and helped create presentation drawings.
