01_MANHATTAN MORPHOLOGY - A SUPER GREATER NEW YORK Analysing the history of waterfront it becomes important / (the big idea is to) to bridge the gap between private and public occupied program along the water’s edge. Creating urban waterfront that allows interaction between architecture and East River Water and to find design solutions which may offer the key to unlocking the potential of the river along the way and might begin to shape the city’s contemporary relationship with water and enhancing its connectivity between neighboring Boroughs. The idea is to build a hard edge ribbon of semi private and semi public programs along the water’s edge that inhibits changing climate and sea- level rise. Semi public programs break the continuous semi private block at three different nodes that allows to establish strong connection to neighboring borough forming a nodal system. The two edge conditions visual connection and physical connection interacts differently with the East river water. The ghats (steps) along the hard edge allows physical access to water and the other edge creates visual connectivity with water. The housing structure is reflection of the ghats system and this continuous ribbon of housing block steps down towards the water’s edge to create visual connectivity between water and newly extended Manhattan. The edge condition brings in people to the new extension and also aims to balance the urban ecosys- tem.

02_FLEXIBLE ARCHITECTURE - A FRAME SURFACE PROPOSITION In a world of changing functionalities and changing volumes, the ultimate goal in every field of study and work is to achieve an infinite and instant flexibility. The utilization of these dynamic fluctuating dimensions in the architecture to solve problems of efficiency, structural integrity, material usage and time consumption offer the possibility for a different kind of durability. This research project focuses on the exploration of structural flexibility, scalability of flexible materials, and organizing them to produce stable but intentionally flexible architecture. A biological organism was studied to understand its arrangement and organization within the organism. The mechanical interaction between the organism and their environment were examined and documented to derive a geometry and materiality that yields biological resiliency. After a particular geometry was derived, analyzed and remodeled, its limitations as far as flexibility and structural tolerance was determined in a final geometry. The final geometry then experimented to form an integrated building system. The material/structural research intended to provide a foundation for experimentation, and design projects incorporating structural flexibility as a resilient architectural response to atmospheric and seismic conditions. The design approach over the semester brought value to the representational quality and detailing. The Study of biological precedent to its translation into the 3-dimensional system and the process were exciting and innovative at every stage of development. Studying and analyzing biological precedents in nature the study of Strangling Fig tree demonstrates the self-organizing abilities to grow and shares a different ecological relationship like mutualism, commensalism, epiphyte, etc. The project is developed based on mechanism and analysis of this biological precedent. The Strangling fig trees are tropical trees and can withstand high winds. They rarely blow over in the hurricane or tropical storm. The entwined root growth and also, the thin aerial roots that form buttress make tree strong to get blown over by high winds. Hurricanes, Cyclone or tropical storm are common environmental hazards that affect living and nonliving organisms.

03_START-UP INCUBATORS The program was to design a Foundation and Incubator for Computational Biotech Ventures, located proximate to the new Medical Campus in Downtown Buffalo. The ecouragement of innovative start-up ventures, funded thorugh private foundations and public/ private initiatives, has been significant n the revitalization of Buffalo. The aim of the design is to create visual connectivity between the incubators and circulation spaces. The atrium of the building overlooked in to the startup incubators. Different floor levels are visually connected through atrium and staggered circulation system allowing more interaction between different spaces. The staggering of floor plans create double and tripple height spaces enhancing the elevation of the building. The office spaces and circulation block also overlooks into the courtyard at ground level. The atrium allows for maximizing daylight in the buiding.

04_SUMMER INTERNSHIP - KUSHNER STUDIOS, NEW YORK The aim of internship was to gain experience of diverse task typically found in Design or build business. As an intern variety of tasks were expected to perform under the direct observation and/ or supervision of office employe with some specific deadlines that are crucial to the project especially with on site project. The task were categorised as per accepted IDP categories and every intern got to work in each of these categories at some point during internship. Interns were considered as part of learning team. The project assigned as an intern was Gateways to Chinatown and after completion of the competition other project assigned was residential apartment in village area in New York city. The part I worked on was plan and helping intern manager with paper documentation. Working on these project taught me a lot of things like managing and organising work. Planning proper deadlines for review and and working in a directed way. It also taught me to be more open minded and acceptable when working in groups. As a part of internship it was mandatory to work on one of the residential project mentioned above. The project assigned was 16 Minetta Lane, NY. Interiors of the apartment and external elevation was to be worked upon during internship. Regular site visit and photo documentation were also important task to be performed. Below are construction drawings I worked on in internship. Summer internship was overall a great learning experience that helped me grow as an architect and as a person. The experience taught me to be more accepting towards ideas and enhanced my leadership qualities. It also helped me gain experience in the real world of design & construction business. Monday office meetings and Friday intern meetings always encouraged me to work more and learn more. The discussions in the meetings helped me gain more knowledge and understand other person’s perspective at looking and perceiving things. I am sure that all the learning experience I had during internship will be executed in my work experince.

The projects assigned were designing of three Sidewalk cafe in New York city under supervision of Junior Partner John Bedard. The initial stage of these sidewalk cafes was to document and the site and check rules for each type of sidewalk cafe. Depending on the type of cafe and their rules basic plan and elevation were designed under supervision of John Bedard. Site documentation and drawings were done by me and other intern Sadie Duteau.

The project assigned was 16 Minetta Lane, NY. Interiors of the apartment and external elevation was to be worked upon during internship. Regular site visit and photo documentation were also important task to be performed. In-house group, the in-house contract group was in-charge of the construction. Co-ordinating with In-house team and documentating site was part of task. Coordinating directly with contractor team, finding materials and specification for required elements and meeting deadlines of an on-going project was a good learning experience in this project.

05_RESIDENTIAL PROJECT - KANAKIA AROHA, MUMBAI, INDIA Porject Team Members : Ar.Anmol Warang, Ar. Shamli Shroff, and Ruchita Chandsarkar. Client : KANAKIA SPACES PVT. LTD. Plot Area : 6,400 square meters

Worked on working drawings, electrical drawings and various detail drawings - Chajja deatil, Duct Detail, Podium facade detail, compund wall deatil. Also worked on sale plans and presentations. Selection of materials was also part of this job. A lot of emphasis is laid on the design of the apartment block. The living room is turned horizontally to create an opening along its longer side having a longer rectangular living and dining space, while the kitchen is taken to the back. This ensures more light and a larger window length gives a better view of the park. The buildings are staggered and so aligned that most of the windows open to a view of the National Park. The well planned units have negligible passage space that in turn allows bigger rooms. Grand entrance lobbies, with cave paintings on its ceiling form the highlight of the project. The colors, materials and finishes are such that a user will surely enjoy a surreal surrounding. Openings on the podium slab create a performance of light and shadow during different times of the day.

06_ CAFE INTERIORS, AMBERNATH , INDIA Design Team: Archit Hegde, Ruchita Chandsarkar Wall Graphics: The Blue Ink The project was first freelance designed and executed project Creamery/Cafe in Ambarnath. A first of its kind in this town. The client wanted a fully lit cafe and to be a landmark in the town. Materials: Wood + Glass + ACP The images on the page 33 describes the overall construction phase. Top most images shows the dining table construction and detailing. The next two imgaes shows the partition wall and shelves detail. The bottom most imgaes shows the stairwell construction photos.
