ELISION ENSEMBLE RICHARD HAYNES | BENJAMIN MARKS | TRISTRAM WILLIAMS GAVIN MALONEY CONDUCTOR ‘The idea of light travelling through a space permeates this programme. In the colossal Dämmerschein (Rays of Twilight) by Xenakis, sounds are luminously sculpted and diffused throughout the orchestra, like beams of light flickering on a sky of rapidly transforming stars. phôsphors divides the orchestra into four insular islands that communicate by igniting matter into sonic colours, in an alchemical transfer of energy. to another of that other combines the orchestra with three soloists from the Australian ensemble ELISION, exploring an angular geometry of a bass clarinet, trumpet and trombone as they modulate identities in the orchestral landscape.’
