2012-2013 WOMEN’S GOLF SEASON IN REVIEW Nordahl tied for 36th place with a 165 tournament card. The Hillcats finished two strokes shy of 11th place UA Fort Smith. The onslaught of tournaments in March continued with the 2013 Bluebonnet Classic at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Hill, Texas. The 25th-ranked Hillcats took fifth place in the 12 team field finishing 32 strokes ahead of sixth place Oklahoma Baptist. Trevino led the Cats once again shooting a pair of 80’s on the par 72, 5,980-yard course to tie for 15th place. Another first year Hillcat, Chelsea Burney, carded a 163 over the two-day event for 20th place. Burney tied a team low 76 matching the opening round posted by Whitney Hocutt. The Claremore, Okla. native finished tied for 27th with a 169 overall score. The Hillcats were able to make the largest move in the second NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll later that week as Blevins’ squad jumped four spots to No. 21 in the poll.

With five NCAA Division II teams packed in the six team field the Hillcats overcame 22 mile per hour winds in the second round led by Trevino who claimed a tie for fourth. The Texas native shot a tournament low nine-over par 79 in the second round at the par 70, 5,821-yard course. Trevino posted a 162 tournament total while fellow Freshman Kelsey Stuever tied for seventh with a 165 tournament card.

In its final tune-up prior to the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship the No. 21-ranked Hillcats improved by 19 strokes in the second round to claim second place at the OBU Spring Invitational at Earlywine Golf Club in Oklahoma City. The par 72, 5,896-yard course saw coach Blevins’ squad post a 651 team total led the junior Hocutt. She returned to form firing a five-over par 77 in the second round to finish in sixth place with a 15-over par tournament card 159.

A week later in the 21 team field at the Texoma Chevy Dealers Lion Intercollegiate at Tanglewood Resort in Pottsboro, Texas the Hillcat women finished in 10th place in the two round tournament.

Trevino remained sharp with a 162 tournament card and ninth place finish while sophomore Cecilie Nordahl tied for 12th as she improved by ten strokes in day two with a round of 77.

After sitting in third place following the opening round, Trevino struggled in the second round and finished in 18th place. Sophomore Cecilie Nordahl however saw day two more promising as she fired a ten-over par 82 on the 5,802-yard, par 72 course to finish tied for 29th.

In the final SAC Championship in Hillcat history, RSU started slow trailing No. 25-ranked Oklahoma Baptist by one shot. The Cats improved by 28-strokes to move past the Bison as RSU claimed fourth place. Pasadena, Texas native Raquel Trevino claimed eighth place as she shot 166 to lead RSU.

Later that week the NAIA released the first edition of its 2013 Women’s Golf Coaches’ Top 25 Poll and the Hillcats entered the rankings for the first time in program history at No. 25. RSU joined four other Sooner Athletic Conference teams in the first poll.

Brooke Fern tied for 14th with a 173 two-day total firing rounds of 89-84 while Nordahl claimed 16th place with a 175 tournament card. The No. 21-ranking wasn’t enough to send the Hillcats to the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship and the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament proved to be the final contest for RSU as a member of the SAC and the NAIA.

With a No. 25 ranking the Cats headed to the Midwestern State Invitational for a two-round tournament at Wichita Falls Country Club. The 18 team field was loaded with 16 NCAA Division II teams and the Hillcats with a 662 team total shot 56 strokes ahead of Texas Wesleyan, the only other NAIA institution, as RSU finished in 12th place.

Four Hillcats are set to return for the 2013-14 campaign as RSU enters membership in the Heartland Conference.

Trevino continued the impressive freshman season tying for 10th place with a pair of 79 rounds and 158 tournament card.
