Challenge yourself! Become active at STAR - Part time April 2019
We are STAR
STAR is the official study association of Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. With more than 6,500 members, STAR is the most active, professional and international study association in the Netherlands and above all, Europe’s largest study association.
STAR gives students the opportunity to get in contact with their fellow students and a broad range of companies. This is facilitated by the great amount of activities which are organized by numerous committees and Master Study Clubs. Each year, almost 300 dedicated Active Members organize diverse and challenging projects. These projects are classified into three pillars on
which STAR’s mission is built, namely: Social, Academic and Career. There are activities for both BA and IBA students in all stages of their studies. The best-known events organized by STAR are the STAR Management Week, the Erasmus Recruitment Days and the Erasmus Consultancy Project, all organized by (partly) fulltime committees.
Organize diverse and challenging projects each year! Being an Active Member at STAR means you can develop yourself personally and professionally at all levels. Above all, you will get a chance to increase your network by meeting
lots of new people. This brochure will give you more information about the Bachelor committees STAR is recruiting in September. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us or step by the STAR Office at T4-53 in the Mandeville Building, Erasmus University.

Suraj Iyer first year IBA student, India
My experience at STAR all in all has been a roller coaster of emotions. At first, I, myself was subjected to the myth of STAR being a Dutch dominated society, that international students found quite difficult to adapt towards. But I like a challenge, and so I applied for a position at STAR anyways. But wait, after being accepted, I realized that there was no challenge to adapt at all. The rumours were pure fiction. I had never felt more accepted and welcome at STAR. Everyone was kind, approachable, and just such great people. To all the internationals out there, hear me. STAR encourages fun, learning and most importantly, diversity! So what i’m saying, if I’m saying anything, is join STAR. It’s great.
“Getting involved in STAR has enabled me to learn so much about myself, project management, teamwork.”
Story from the former chairman of the Eurekaweek Committee Brasil Wouters After getting to know STAR much better during my first trimesters as an active member, I wanted to get to know new people and try to challenge myself again. After visiting the recruitment drinks I decided to join another committee. I didn’t really know what to expect, but during my interview we talked about the activities and responsibilities of the Eurekaweek Committee and BA introduction Days. After getting really excited about the Eurekaweek Committee, I heard I got selected for the chairman position! The first months with your committee will be a lot about creating ideas, making plans and trying to raise some money to make the Eurekaweek even better! You will be able to work together with EFR, JFR, SR, the (I)BA Introduction Days Committee and the RSM faculty. This has enabled me not only to gain more professional communicating skills, but also to improve my teamwork skills. The Eurekaweek Committee is responsible for the marketing of STAR during the Eurekaweek and you and your crew will be the representatives of the study association! This is next to a great responsibility also an extremely rewarding week: throwing a great party at The Friends live, organizing multiple dinners, festival activities, information markets and much more!
During my year with the Eurekaweek Committee, I made a lot of new friends which I still see on a daily basis. Getting involved in STAR has enabled me to learn so much about myself, about project management, about teamwork, whilst above all delivering the main service to which all STAR members are committed – providing that vital connection between the studies which we all seek to complete, enjoying ourselves along the way, looking to develop on a personal level, and preparing for life after graduation!
Story from the former chairman of the IBA Freshmen Weekend Amy van den Hoven My experience at STAR was definitely one to remember. I hesitated to apply, because I wasn’t sure I could do it and would have the time for it. Then I applied for what I thought was the best option for me; doing the program of IBA Freshmen Weekend. However, STAR challenged me to become chairman and so I did! I really learned a lot and the STAR Board was always willing to help whenever something was hard. Not only was it a great learning experience, it was also a lot of fun. And after the weekend it is a great feeling to know you have organized all of it! So don’t hesitate, just apply and experience it yourself!”
