LETTER FROM THE

President and General Manager

Welcome to the 20th season of Round Rock Express baseball! We are so thrilled that you are joining us at Dell Diamond during our historic 2019 campaign. We sincerely thank you for your support. As we continue a new era of Express baseball, we couldn’t be more excited about this season and the future of professional baseball in Round Rock. We have enjoyed many exciting games during our first season as the new Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. We are thrilled to have rejoined our original major league club, as your Express originally served as the Double-A affiliate for the Astros from the team’s inception in 2000 until joining the ranks of Triple-A in 2005, where Round Rock was Houston’s top affiliate until 2010. As we’ve seen first-hand, Houston has built a tremendous farm system full of many top prospects that are playing right here at Dell Diamond. In addition to watching the next wave of talent develop right here in Round Rock, we were excited to welcome in several members of the Astros roster on major league rehab assignments earlier this summer. Having the likes of Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, Aledmys Díaz, Collin McHugh, Joe Smith and Max Stassi join our club for a few days during their road to recovery was a great experience for our fans, players and staff. We pride ourselves on providing a major league-caliber atmosphere at the Triple-A level and are proud to be able to assist in the rehabilitation of some of Houston’s stars. As we enter the final stretch of the 2019 season, the Express are gearing up for what should be an exciting race to the Southern Division Title along with our rivals to the south in San Antonio. The Express and Missions have battled for the top spot in the Division

since day one, further adding to the excitement of the renewed I-35 Rivalry Series. The E-Train holds a slight 7-5 lead over the Missions in the annual battle for the traffic cone, and we can’t wait to see the exciting conclusion of the season series during San Antonio’s final trip to Dell Diamond in late August. We’re excited to celebrate you, the fans, during our final homestand of the season. Our annual Shirt-Off-Their-Back Night is scheduled for Sunday, August 25, and we’re giving fans the opportunity to win an Express player’s jersey literally off their back. Lucky winners will be brought onto the field to meet the players and receive photos and autographs. We’ll bid farewell to the 2019 regular season with Fan Appreciation Night on Thursday, August 29. Our players will welcome fans at the gates prior to the game, then we’ll cap off the season with a postgame fireworks show, thanks to our friends at Dell. As we continue our momentous season, we sincerely hope that your time at the ballpark is as enjoyable as possible. If there is ever anything that either of us or any member of our staff can do to enhance your experience at Dell Diamond, please let us know.

When it comes to diverting waste, we knock it out of the park.

Compost

At Texas Disposal Systems, we are proud to team up with the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond to help make it one of the greenest ballparks in Texas. You’ll notice some things we do here in order to make that happen. Just look at the signs on the Eco Stations for easy tips as to what goes where. We then take the materials and turn them in to things like compost and mulch to be used in your local community. These actions and your help in putting things in the right place, make for a winning combination.

Every used electronic has one big play left in it. As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Dell in Round Rock, and our 20th anniversary as a proud sponsor and technology partner of the Round Rock Express, we’re once again excited to team up with Goodwill Central Texas to offer responsible technology recycling on game days. Every donation not only keeps electronics out of landfills, it helps support local jobs and training programs. Together we've recycled more than half a billion pounds of used electronics since 2004.

Bring your old electronics on August 15th to help us keep up the momentum!

ROUND ROCK EXPRESS & DELL WORK TOGETHER TO

Give Back An important element of the Dell-Round Rock Express partnership is identifying ways we can impact the local community together in positive ways. Here are a few examples of our commitment to service in action this past year.

The Nolan Ryan Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) team charity of the Round Rock Express. The Foundation provides resources for youth, education and community development. Recent Central Texas impacts include a substantial contribution to the Play for All Abilities Park in Round Rock, a scholarship endowment fund and a community grant program.

RBI Austin exists to engage and develop inner-city Austin youth athletically, academically, and spiritually, empowering them to lead the transformation of their communities.

COACHING STAFF MICKEY STOREY MANAGER Mickey Storey joins the Express from the Class-A Quad Cities River Bandits, where he began his managerial career in 2018. The 32-year-old skipper led the River Bandits to an 81-59 record in 2018, the second-best mark in the Midwest League and the club's highest win total since 2015. Prior to his time in Quad Cities, Storey served as the development coach at Class-A Advanced Buies Creek in 2017. The former right-handed pitcher had a nine-year professional playing career that included one season with the Astros in 2012 in which he posted a 3.86 ERA in 26 appearances with the Major League club. Storey was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he attended nearby Deerfield Beach High School before moving on to Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. He was drafted twice in his career, first by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round of the 2007 MLB Draft and again by the Oakland Athletics in the 31st round of the 2008 MLB Draft. During his nine-year professional career, Storey pitched at every level of affiliated baseball, including stints with Sacramento and Oklahoma City in the Pacific Coast League. He also posted winter ball stints in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Venezuela. He finished his playing career in 2016 following two seasons with the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League. In total, the righty amassed a career 3.52 ERA in 385 games.

BEN ROSENTHAL HITTING COACH Ben Rosenthal begins his third season within the Astros organization after serving as the hitting coach for championship clubs in each of his first two seasons with Houston, including 2018 at Buies Creek and 2017 at Quad Cities. The former catcher posted a four-year professional career, including two seasons in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system and two seasons in the independent leagues. The 39-year-old last suited up for the El Paso Diablos in 2006 before transitioning into a coaching role. Rosenthal served as an assistant coach at Universal City High School in San Diego before moving on to Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas. He moved back to San Diego in 2013 to serve as the head coach for Mira Mesa High School. His last coaching position before joining the Astros was at Point Loma Nazarene University from 2014-2016. Originally born in Phoenix, Rosenthal grew up in Las Vegas, where he attended Green Valley High School. After two years of playing junior college baseball at Riverside City College, he transferred to San Diego State University, where he completed his degree in kinesiology with a supplement in introductory sciences. Reid Ryan Inducted into Round Rock Express Hall of Fame TEA M FOUNDER HONORED W IT H E N SHR IN E M E N T

W

By Andrew Felts MA N AGE R, P R & CO M M UN I CAT I O N S

ithout Reid Ryan, there would be no Round Rock Express. As part of the festivities surrounding the team’s historic 20th season, Ryan will become the sixth member inducted into the Round Rock Express Hall of Fame. After deliberation by Express staff and shareholders, Ryan was named the first front office executive to be honored with induction into the team’s Hall of Fame. Ryan served as the Founder and original CEO of Ryan Sanders Baseball, the ownership group of the Express, leading the charge in acquiring the Jackson Generals franchise and relocating the club to Round Rock to become the Express in 2000. He worked feverishly with local officials to build Dell Diamond from the ground up. As the team’s former CEO, Ryan’s top priority was the fan experience, and he quickly became a fan favorite for his ability to connect with people, speak with fans on a personal level and use their feedback to improve the organization. “The fans have given my family everything that we have, back to the days of supporting my dad, Nolan, as a player with the Astros and the Rangers, then supporting a young 26-year-old kid that wanted to come out and build a ballpark and own a baseball team,” Ryan said. “If it weren’t for the fans in Round Rock, I wouldn’t be where I am today as the President of the Houston Astros, and I know my dad would not have been able to go to Arlington and take a team to back-to-back World Series. I will always hold Round Rock and its fans in a special place in my heart.” A brand new member of the Texas League in 2000, the Express captured

40

Round Rock Express

the league’s championship in their inaugural season. The team excelled on and off the field, winning Baseball America Organization of the Year honors in 2001 and the Texas League Organization of the Year award in 2003. Ryan was named Minor League News’ Businessman of the Year the following season in 2004. “I have so many great memories from Dell Diamond, one is obviously winning the Texas League championship in 2000. That was an incredible experience. It was a packed house. There had to be 10,000 or 12,000 people standing everywhere and just the energy in the stadium that night was something that I’ve only felt a couple of times, one being the World Series in 2017 with the Astros. That’s a great memory,” Ryan said. After four prosperous years leading the E-Train as the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, Ryan played an integral role in founding the Corpus Christi Hooks, who became the Astros' new Double-A affiliate as the Express moved to the ranks of Triple-A in 2005. During his time as founder and CEO of both the Express and Hooks, the clubs were perennially lauded as two of the top franchises in minor league attendance, stadium satisfaction and franchise value. Ryan was named the President of Business Operations for the Houston Astros in May 2013, becoming one of the youngest team presidents in baseball. During Ryan’s tenure in Houston, he successfully oversaw the Hooks’ transition to becoming an owned and operated affiliate of the Astros. This past September, the Express also announced they would be rejoining the Astros family as the club’s Triple-A affiliate, bringing the franchise Ryan founded back into his domain. No stranger to the game, Ryan served as a bat boy for the Astros while his father and Hall of Famer Nolan pitched in the Astrodome in the 1980s. He later pitched collegiately at the University of Texas and Texas Christian University, winning a pair of Southwest Conference titles along the way. He pitched two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization after being drafted in the 17th round of the 1994 MLB Draft. With baseball in his DNA, it’s no surprise that Ryan has found the success he has throughout his career. “We all want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, whether we have worked for the Express, or the City of Round Rock, or were a baseball fan, or just live in the community, the Express brings people together. It’s a uniter in the community, not a divider. In a world where everybody is trying to separate people, baseball just hugs everybody and puts them under a big tent and says come be a part of something great,” Ryan said. Ryan will be formally inducted into the Round Rock Express Hall of Fame during a special pregame ceremony on Friday, August 16 before the Express host the Oklahoma City Dodgers at 7:05 p.m.

This facility was built so children could have a place to dream, families could gather and enjoy a summer night together and everyone could experience the joy and thrill of America’s national pastime‌ baseball. This project was a dream of mine and it took the dedication and hard work of thousands of people to make it a reality. This ballpark is dedicated to all those wonderful people, people who believed baseball had a place in Round Rock, people who brought their skills and knowledge to the design and vision of the facility and people who labored long hours to build this field of dreams. I thank each and every one of you for giving baseball fans a place to call home. Shining Bright at Dell Diamond The Round Rock Express, in conjunction with the Pacific Coast League, International League and Minor League Baseball are proud to announce that the Triple-A All-Star Game, presented by Dell Technologies, will be held at Dell Diamond for the first time in 2021. The 34th annual Triple-A All-Star Game at Dell Diamond is set for mid-July 2021. All-Star Week festivities include the Triple-A Home Run Derby as well as an AllStar luncheon. Dates and times will be announced as the event draws closer. “We could not be more excited to bring the Triple-A All-Star Game to Dell Diamond in 2021,” Express President Chris Almendarez said. “This is one of the biggest baseball-related events to take place in Round Rock and we’re anxious to get to show off our great city and ballpark to our friends across Minor League Baseball.” The Express unveiled the logo for the event during a press conference at Dell Diamond on July 25. Designed by Ryan Foose of Fooser Sports Design, the creative mind behind the Round Rock Chupacabras branding, the 2021 Triple-A All-Star Game logo is uniquely Texan. Built around the iconic Lone Star for which the State of Texas is known, the logo is adorned at the top by a pair of bluebonnets while Texas flags fly proudly alongside. The Round Rock water tower is also displayed at the highest point of the star, a nod to one of the City of Round Rock’s most prominent features. Additional logos and branding will be unveiled in the near future. 2021 will mark the first time that the Triple-A All-Star Game is held in Round Rock. Dell Diamond previously served as host of the Double-A All-Star Game in 2001 while the club was a member of the Texas League. Alternating host sites between the Pacific Coast League and International League, the Scranton/WilkesBarre RailRiders (New York Yankees affiliate) are set to play host in 2020. This year’s All-Star Game was held in

El Paso, Texas, home of the Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate), while the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians affiliate) hosted the event in 2018. The Triple-A All-Star Game pits the brightest stars of the Pacific Coast League up against the best players in the International League in a nine-inning contest to determine Triple-A superiority. Player selection for the game includes a combination of fan voting, team manager nominations and league president recommendations and will take place just after the beginning of the 2021 season. Round Rock Express season ticket members will have first dibs at securing tickets to the 2021 Triple-A All-Star Game festivities. General ticketing information about the All-Star Game and accompanying events will be announced at a later date.

Not your average 17-year old

Meet 2019 Express season ticket member Dalton Brown

It is safe to assume that the majority of teenagers with a part-time job are hoping to save up enough money to maybe buy a car or a gaming system, or just use the extra cash to hang out with friends. 2019 Round Rock Express season ticket member Dalton Brown is not your average 17-year old. “Back in July (2018), I got a job and eventually I realized I had enough saved up that I was able to get [Express season] tickets,” Brown said. “That was really exciting for me. I was able to come to every game that I could. Saving up for a truck was on my mind, but I think Express season tickets were always something I had wanted to purchase to be able to support the team.” While Brown saved up enough money to purchase two full season memberships in Section 113, most fans won’t find him there during an Express game. If you have been to Dell Diamond this season, you might have noticed a tall young man always walking around with a glove, red backpack plus both a head-worn and handheld video camera at the ready. “I film myself going to these games, sometimes it's just clips from the games and sometimes it’s me getting foul balls, toss ups or home run balls. I also use my cell phone to get selfies with the players,” Brown stated. “That’s why I have all this gear on.” As an Express full season ticket member perk, Brown is able to enter Dell Diamond an hour and a half before first pitch, where oftentimes batting practice is just concluding. Brown is an athletic kid that can typically be found at any given game, even chasing down foul balls that land outside the ballpark in the parking lot. However, Brown shares his catches and love for the game with Express fans, especially the youngest ones, when and where he can. “I like to share the joy with the kids because they come here, and I see a lot of adults try to get balls and not give them to kids and it makes me feel bad. So, I like to take advantage of that as much as I can and help them out,” Brown said. “That’s the reason why I give the balls away and I keep doing this.”

54

Round Rock Express

Brown does keep a few for himself, one favorite being a Yordan Alvarez home run he caught back in April in right field. “It was cool because I always told myself that this guy was going to be something special soon, so I have that ball specifically marked at home. And now, he’s in the MLB doing what he’s doing,” beamed Brown. Dalton Brown is a sports fan through and through. With the Express right in his own backyard, it was a no-brainer for Brown to treat himself to season tickets. Given his front row seat to see several future Houston Astros players in action at Dell Diamond in 2019, Brown believes that has only added to the appeal of his hometown team and has furthered his love for the game of baseball. “I’ve been a huge baseball fan for years, as long as I could remember. Going to Express games was something I always loved doing and was something I wanted to do more often. I love this team a lot so being able to save up for that was the perfect idea for me,” Brown said. When asked if he was planning to renew his membership for next season, Brown replied, without missing a beat, “Absolutely! No question in my mind.”

SCORING THE GAME Over the years, the game of baseball has evolved and so have methods for scoring the game. Different fans have different ways of keeping a scorecard, and many use their own notations. Our simple method involves using the symbols on the next page to record each play depending on the outcome. The different numeric positions listed to the right can be used to add further detail. For example, if a batter flies out to center field, "F8" could be written in the box. If a batter grounds out to third, "G53" would show the third baseman throwing to the first baseman to record the out. Finally, if a shortstop makes an error, "E6" could be used to describe the play.

As runners progress around the bases, darken the appropriate line in each box. When a runner scores, shade the entire box to illustrate the run being scored.

Want your chance to walk away from an Express game a little richer? The Express, Nolan Ryan Foundation and Cook-Walden Funeral Homes & Cemeteries are joining forces to host a 50/50 raffle every home game. A 50/50 raffle means that half of the net proceeds from 50/50 ticket sales each night will go to one lucky fan while the other half will go back to the Nolan Ryan Foundation! Fans will be able to purchase raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the 6th inning. The winner will be announced in the 7th inning. At the end of the season, the Nolan Ryan Foundation will make a donation to a variety of local nonprofit organizations in Central Texas through their recently-founded community grant program. Every night is a new chance to not only win, but help a great cause in the process. Tickets can be purchased at the 50/50 raffle kiosk on the concourse behind home plate or from one of the roaming vendors throughout the stadium. All raffle ticket purchases must be made with cash or a debit card. Credit cards will not be accepted, per state law.
