Chamber Circular De c embe r 2012

As We Welcome A New Year... by Julia Bryant

JANUARY 14 Chamber Board Meeting City Hall Conference Room A Noon JANUARY 15 Chamber Luncheon Bakers Ribs 2711 W I-30, Greenville Noon JANUARY 17 The Well Connected Networking Breakfast Holiday Inn Express 8am JANUARY 19 Wine and Dine for Rockwall PAWS Nineteen by Zanata 6pm (see page 9 of this newsletter)

...we say a heartfelt goodbye to 2012. We had so much fun with all of our events, chamber luncheons, ribbon cuttings and just meeting our newest members and enjoying our existing ones. It’s so much fun getting to know everyone better and learn more about the wonderful businesses that make up our Chamber. As always, we look forward with great anticipation and forever optomistic to what the new year holds. One never knows what lies ahead for us....or do we?? Some things are uncertain...our health, our families, our jobs, will we win the lottery this year? While other things are for certain. These would include our wonderful Chamber events such as the Kelly Miller Circus, our Chamber Golf Tournament, Silent

2013 Auction & Casino Night and capping it all off...Funfest. Yes, sure as the sun will shine...sure as those Mayans got it all wrong, we will again live to see these events come to our Chamber in the New Year. We have much to look forward to this upcoming year, all the while hoping to not fall off the perverbial cliff. Lets look forward to what we know will come our way, the good things that we have to look forward to. We can’t control the weather, we can’t control the government, but we can control...and enjoy to the fullest, the events that each year your Chamber dutifully brings to you! Enjoy this year to it’s fullest! We, your Chamber, wish you a very blessed new year!

News from your Director by Julia Bryant

Joe Vaughn, Dean of Union Valley Academy announced today that Poetry Community Christian School and Union Valley Academy have merged to provide expanded learning for students of both schools. This takes effect with the spring semester. Enrollment opportunities are available at the Poetry Community Christian school office 972-563-7227. We are in the process of booking the 2013 Business After Hours. If you are interested in hosting one of these popular events, showcasing your business to the community on one of the dates shown below, please contact the Chamber Office at info@ or by calling 972-6365000. These events are typically held monthly on the 3rdThursday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, but can be changed to better fit your schedule! If you are planning a move, grand opening or ribbon cutting, this is a great opportunity to bring potential business to your door! As a part of the current Leadership Rockwall Class, I am pleased to share our community service project we choose as a class. Disk golfers soon could be playing 18 holes –or baskets– at Smith Family Park in Fate. The current Leadership Rockwall class made it official recently by selecting the disk golf course as its community service project. The recommendation for the disk golf course was made by Fate Public Works Director Bobby Clay, a member of the Leadership Rockwall class. He said a list of proposed projects was trimmed from 19 to two before the Fate project was selected. Clay said members currently are raising funds by seeking sponsors for each basket– or hole. Funds will be used to buy and install the baskets and construct concrete tee boxes.

Future infrastructure projects on the course could include construction of bridges over a small creek and benches. The course is expected to cover about half of the park’s 33 acres. Clay said the project must be completed by May, when the current class graduates. A reminder that McClaren Advertising will begin making calls after the first of the year to promote the annual Kelly Miller Circus that the Chamber sponsors each year. McClaren will ask the business if they are interested in purchasing children’s tickets for a reduced cost to either use for themselves or donate to underprivileged children. This year the tickets that are donated will be distributed among the children in the Royse City ISD elementary schools who are on the reduced lunch program. Also be aware that the advance ticket sales are always significantly less than the day of the show, so if you have any plans to attend I would suggest getting them from one of our retailers: Royse City Hardware, Exxon Tigermart, Paynes Supermarket, Royse City Chamber of Commerce, Smallville Learning Center, and Stonebrook Learning Center. Last year the children loved seeing Carlee and Charlie when they came to visit before the circus. We will also have contests to help you win family passes again this year at Arboledas in Royse City and Rockwall as well as on Big14 GVL A.M./ 105.9 FM Radio in Greenville so be sure to look for updates in your newsletter, e-mail and Facebook!
