Monday, 20th July, 2020 Dear Dance Teachers, Parents & Competitors, On behalf of Kerryn our Dance Discipline Chair, the Dance Committee and the Royal South Street Society Eisteddfod Board & Staff, I would like to provide an update on where the Royal South Street Society (RSSS) is in relation to the 2020 Energetiks Dance Competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The RSSS Team is not sure about you but we have certainly gone through all the emotional stages associated with the outbreak of COVID-19. Panic, shock and information overload!! Last week we sent an update saying we would wait until the 7 th August to make our final decision. As a result of that update, we have received criticism from dance schools and dance parents for delaying our decision due to the costs involved in continuing to pay for lessons and the preparation of costumes during such an uncertain time when everybody is light on for funds. We have also had valid claims that from a business perspective, a decision sooner than later, will allow schools to move forward into Term 3 with clear planning and studio (or Zoom) space for whole class lessons, thus bringing back much needed income for the rest of the year. Our Metropolitan Melbourne entrants, the majority of whom are now back to home schooling and after a very brief time being allowed back into their dance studios, are subject to the six-week lockdown period applied by the Victorian State Government and those entrants are now again not permitted to attend studio classes. We are mindful that even if the lockdown period is released after the six-week period, this does not allow an even playing field for those competitors who are back to on-line (Zoom) classes, compared to regional competitors who have been attending lessons in their dance studios since the beginning of Term 3. All of this information has been taken into consideration, along with the increase in COVID-19 cases not only in the Metropolitan areas under restrictions but also now in regional Victoria, including Ballarat. We thank you for entering your troupes/groups & soloists in the RSSS Energetiks Dance Competition this year but unfortunately with very heavy hearts, we have had to make the tough decision to cancel the Competition for 2020. Naturally we are all extremely disappointed it has come to this but with the feedback received, the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in Victoria and subsequent restrictions, including restrictions now

placed on us by the theatre, holding the Competition has become impossible due to circumstances beyond our control and we are unfortunately left with no other option. We are initially notifying those who entered and will make a public announcement over the coming days. Entry fees will be refunded in due course; payments made via Stardom will be refunded via the same method as payment. This may take some time so please be patient; if you paid via direct deposit please send your bank details to Whilst we know you will all share our disappointment, please understand that RSSS also has a duty of care and responsibility to keep safe from this insidious virus, our volunteers, staff, you, your families and friends, as well as everyone in the wider Ballarat community. Depending on Government restrictions later in the year, we ‘may” be able to hold a “RSSS SHOWCASE” performance for 2020 entrants. We will keep you updated if this looks like it can go ahead. Thank you for your patience and the overwhelming support we have received during this difficult time. Please stay safe and well. We hope to see you all return for the 2021 season of our much loved and prestigious Energetiks Dance Competition. As the Competition/Volunteer Officer, I am contactable if any of the above requires clarification, via email: , or give me a call on 0417 390 599. Kindest regards,

Julie Wiseman Competition / Volunteer Officer, Royal South Street Society E: M: 0417 390599
