Like many who recall travels on the Mother Road, his memories have become philosophical. “When one experiences history in the making, it is not normally viewed as such until years later,” he said. “With decades now behind me, I have fondly looked back to that trip and a few trips before that time which have enriched my life and appreciation of this great country and its Mother Road.” Planning on retirement in the next few years, he and his wife are collecting books and articles to guide them on a future trip retracing as much of Route 66 as they can. He feels he will then be able to write about his memories on the Mother Road from the view of both a child and an adult. “So much has been told about Route 66, by those who have traveled its colorful miles as well as by those who have retold the stories of others, that little more can be said, other than to relate the memories of those still living, who have benefited by its encounter,” he said.
