Dear Roundabout Readers, It’s been a real pleasure to be featured in the Roundabout Magazines in recent months, and I hope you’ve enjoyed finding out more about Bamboozle. We’re a local charity and work with learning disabled children and their families and are continually moved by the effect the work can have on families. Sam Fretwell brought her disabled daughter Amelia and her son Harvey to a recent Bamboozle event and said it was “Amazing, fantastic, magical, multi-sensory, musical, accessible and inclusive.” That’s why we do what we do and continue to raise money so that we can do more. This month, I want to write to you directly to tell you about a fundraising challenge that I’m taking on next year which we’ve called the 70seventy challenge. The aim is to raise £70,000 in the run up to my 70th birthday, hence 70seventy. To do this I will be climbing the National Three Peaks [Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon], completing a four-day cycle across the Pyrenees including the iconic Col du Tourmalet - and running a marathon round Leicester Racecourse. None of which I have done before! Madness some say.

would get involved. We also need volunteer drivers for the Pyrenees support team and The Three Peaks weekend. We’re looking for enthusiastic people to sign up! It’s going to be a fantastic year, lots of fun and no pain at all!. You can sign up now by visiting our website: www.bamboozletheatre.co.uk/70seventy.

You can join as an individual or as a team for either the three peaks or the marathon. Each challenge has fundraising targets to hit, which is a great way to bring people together in support of a great cause! There are lots of things you can do alongside the challenges to help us reach our ambitious £70,000 target, from festive bake sales or a Christmassy coffee morning or dinner party (and plenty more ideas on our blog!). So if you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Sending you warm season’s greetings, Christopher and the Bamboozle team.

My request to you is this - are you up for joining me for one of the legs of the challenge to help give Amelia more experiences like the one her mother described above. Or do you know a cyclist, hill walker or runner who

01455 636349 Welcome to our Winter 2017 Newsletter Hello everyone! Winter is here, the clocks have changed and the dark evenings are upon us. There’s plenty in the news about property and speculation regarding interest rate rises, but for most people keeping warm will be a priority because we are now entering the season of boiler repairs! For now, if you know anyone who is unhappy with their current agent, whether for sales or lettings please refer Martin & Co. Did you know… that we charge from £600.00 including VAT to sell your home? With no upfront cost? Also, as well as all the usual expected marketing tools, you will have access to your own personal web portal. This shows a summary of all the viewing feedback that is generated, how many Rightmove views your listing has produced and is included free of charge! How good is that? If you’re looking to sell your home over the winter or in the New Year, then contact Martin & Co to arrange a free market appraisal. The local agent providing a traditional service at online prices! The latest rental price index is available from Homelet for Landlords in the Leicestershire area. Average rent currently stands at £740 per month with an increase of 3.4% compared to last year. The most popular rented property at 28% are flats, closely followed by detached houses at 27.4%. Terraced houses are at 23.6%, with semi-detached at 18.4%. Bungalows are at a very low 2.6%. Average tenant income is £29,300 for males and £20,375 for females which gives an income to household rent ratio of 26%. The Private Rental Sector continues to grow, and despite the increase in costs to Landlords (which has caused many to sell their properties), there is clearly demand. If you wish to have a copy of the full report please email Martin & Co at hinckley@martinco.com

If you would like to feel the benefit of rent funds arriving in your bank account without stressing over the details of how it all happens, then you can leave the whole thing to us, just choose the Fully Managed service option Steve Chadwick Martin & Co Hinckley

01455 636349 hinckley@martinco.com First impressions, available space! Maximise the space you have on show. No matter how big or small your property is it’s the available space that sells it. You can maximise that feeling of space by showing more of it! Think about buyers being able to see under furniture, leaving space under beds, sofas on legs. And don’t use the space to store things – buyers will see it and think there is not enough space for their own stuff. Store excess furniture, ornaments and general ‘stuff’ out of site. The investment will pay off; buyers will see space and will not notice the odd missing chair or side table. You can make do with what is left whilst you are selling. Don’t use the garage to store excess. Buyers will want to see the garage and won’t be fooled if they find it’s full. Using the loft for storage is what people expect – but make sure that it is well organised, as a buyer wants to see that it is useful space which can be easily accessed. Floors need to be clean and tidy to increase the sense of space. If you have a carpet, get it cleaned. If the flooring is badly scuffed or marked think about changing it. All surfaces, shelves and tops of cupboards to be kept clear. If you can’t make room for items out of sight then think about putting more into storage. No-one will notice if the toaster is missing from the worktop but they will remember there was not a lot of kitchen worktop space. SALES PROPERTY OF THE MONTH – AND ON A CORNER PLOT!

A lovely four bedroom detached house on Portland Drive in Hinckley. Comprising hallway, WC, kitchen/diner, lounge, study, conservatory, utility, four bedrooms, en-suite and family bathroom. Charity Page Cats In Need (Hinckley and Nuneaton) Registered Charity No. 1042283

Cats In Need is a small locally based charity run entirely by local volunteers who foster the cats in their own homes. They do not have access to a sanctuary. To see more of the cats currently looking for homes please take a look at www.catchat.org under Leicestershire and Warwickshire. Tabs is a bit of a mysterious type, he was fed as a stray after turning up in someone's garden and that is really that as far as his history goes. Maybe he was a much Tabs loved pet, maybe a streetwise loner. Perhaps he got lost or someone got bored. He is certainly able to look after himself so he may have had to for a while. He came into us because the lady who was feeding him was going away and there was no one to look after him. He is a very friendly boy and a bit of a lap cat but he won't tolerate anything he considers to be "messing about "! Tabs is untested living with other animals and would not be suitable for a home with young children. Tabs recently had quite a big dental operation to remove pretty much all of his teeth, he had broken ones, impacted ones, decayed ones possibly due to his rough background as a stray with a consequently poor diet. He is now left with just his big canines but is a much happier boy for it. He also passed all blood screens with flying colours! Spot has had a long history with Cats In Need. He arrived back in 2012 with his mum and son after their owner was about to become homeless when his rented property was sold with very little notice.

Please mention

Spot and his mum Fluff then spent the next three years in foster care with no one coming forward to adopt them. Then at the end of 2015 after nearly four years, the pair found the perfect home with an older couple who adored them. CIN said goodbye, off they went and CIN counted it as a long awaited success. Sadly though this wasn't to last, after just over a year in their new home, one of the couple who had adopted them became very ill whilst on holiday and was diagnosed as terminally ill. Spot and Fluff returned to their foster home and have been there since. Fluff is now quite elderly with some health issues but Spot is a healthy, slightly set in his ways 13 year old and we would like to find him his last and permanent home for his pensionable years. Spot is like many cats, fuss is on his own terms, he chooses when and you will get a nip if you persist . He likes to sleep on the end of the bed but is a very early riser and thinks you should be too especially when breakfast needs serving. He is just a slightly grumpy grandad type really. He would make a good companion for someone older, we would like a home with no other pets and no children ideally so he can settle down, find his feet and set the daily routines in motion.

2626 “You were my last hope. Thank you!” So many of our clients say things like this to us. Could it be the same for you too? How long have you been looking for someone… something… anything that will just make the pain go away? Weeks, months… years even? Have you tried almost everything and are now wondering if there is any hope? We have met many people who were in exactly the same position when they got in touch with us. My name is Sue Roberts and I operate Advanced Healing Therapies from my clinic in Binley Woods, near Coventry. I am the best walking testimonial for my business. At the age of 32 I had a major road traffic accident and was told I would live my life in a wheelchair. Being the rebellious type, I wasn’t going to accept

this and I needed a solution. So I travelled to Minneapolis in the USA and had 21 treatments in 30 days. Those 30 days changed my life. I came home again, pain free and could finally feel my feet again. So I became a ballroom dancer. What I experienced changed my life. It also made me want to bring the technology back to the UK to help other people with their pain and suffering. I believe in it that much because I know personally what it can do. In 2009 I opened the Advanced Healing Therapy Clinic and since then I have helped so many people from different backgrounds and of all ages, for so many different reasons.

Charity Page Help spread a little Christmas joy!

As you’re getting ready for Christmas – wrapping presents, stocking up on festive food and spending time with family and friends – spare a thought for the cats and dogs at Leicester Animal Aid. You can spread some Christmas cheer at the Centre in a number of ways. Give £6 to buy a present Your donation will help buy presents to make sure our dogs and cats feel loved and special. Your gift could help give our residents a cosy bed, a new toy, a special meal, some seasonal treats or go towards a bigger present such as a sandpit that they can share with a friend. You can call the Centre on 01455 888 257 to donate or send a cheque made payable to LAA to the address shown at the bottom of the page. Reverse Advent Calendar When you put your advent calendar up why not set up a reverse advent calendar for the Centre? It’s easy to do, just get a box (you can decorate it if you’d like) and starting from December 1, pop in a treat, tin of food or other dog/cat-related goodies every day until Christmas Eve. When you can, drop it off at the Centre. For ideas of what you could put in, take a look at our shopping list at: www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk/fundraisingchallenges/centre-wishlist

Amazon wish list There are lots of items that we regularly need at the Centre, and donated items are really useful and help us to reduce costs. Not all items are glamorous, but all are very useful and help us to care for the dogs and cats at the Centre. You can now buy items from our Amazon Wishlist and they will be delivered directly to our door. Check out the items we need at www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk/wishlist Thank you Our Christmas wish is that each of our dogs and cats will be celebrating with their new families next year, but until then please help them to feel the warmth of love and kindness this Christmas. Thank you. Brandy, a nine-year-old Lurcher, will be spending his second Christmas at Leicester Animal Aid. Help to make it a special one for him by buying a gift or perhaps you are the one to give him the best present of all – a forever home.

You can see more of our lovely cats and dogs that have been re-homed in our 2018 calendar. It’s just £4.50 and all the proceeds go towards helping our cats and dogs here at the centre. We also have Christmas cards too.

Leicester Animal Aid is a rescue and rehoming centre for cats and dogs, based just outside of the South Leicester village of Huncote. www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk Email: info@leicesteranimalaid.org.uk Leicester Animal Aid, Forest Road, Huncote, Leicester LE9 3LE Registered charity number: 242560

Local Women’s Business Networking Group Women that Connect A professional women’s business networking group for local businesses has proved to be extremely successful and now has 33 members. The Women that Connect Group is an exclusive membership group meaning only one member per profession/industry is invited to join which means that the Group has a good, diverse mix of businesses. The launch meeting in September 2016 was a great success and subsequent meetings have proved similarly successful. It is certainly proving a great way for Leicestershire and Warwickshire women business owners to meet. The monthly lunchtime meetings, held at Ullesthorpe Court Hotel, are friendly and relaxed yet professional allowing members to build new business relationships whilst cementing existing ones. Susan Ogden of Kangen Water spoke at the

31 31

November lunch meeting. Susan gave a very interesting, personal and moving presentation on how you never know when you may be helping someone who is not having such a good time as one may think. For those of us there it was a thought provoking presentation. It was special that Susan said what a fabulous group we are and everyone is happy to help each other and the Group is not always about work but just good heartedness too. Guests are welcome to attend a maximum of two meetings a year as long as there is no clash with a business who is already a member of the group. Having celebrated our 1st Year Anniversary meeting in September we are now well into our 2nd Year. If you are interested in joining this successful group, please contact Debbie of Roundabout Hinckley on 07751 211019 or email her at debbie@roundabouthinckley.co.uk for further information and to see if the business slot is available.

It is possible to complete the route on other less suitable type bikes but be prepared to walk with your bike on parts of the off-road route! Friday 26th January Wear a Funky Scarf Day! It’s time to get funky! Charity Link, a charity which provides essential items for people in need in Hinckley and throughout Leicestershire, is asking you to support its annual dress up day, ‘Wear a Funky Scarf Day’. Simply funk up your scarf and wear it with pride on Friday 26th January and give a donation to help ensure that all local people have their basic needs met, no matter what crisis, illness, disability or difficulty they may be facing. The day aims to be great fun but it also has a serious message as many of the people Charity Link helps cannot afford to keep warm over winter. The day is perfect for schools, for workplace fundraising or for groups of family and friends to get involved. Cake sales, raffles or fun scarf themed activities all add to the spirit of the day. Get in touch for balloons, leaflets and school and workplace packs. Visit www.charity-link.org/funkyscarfday

We would like everyone taking part to try and raise at least £20.17 which will go directly to Keepthebeat (Registered Charity 1143119) who give hope and support to those affected by congenital heart defects. If you raise £50 or more you will be entitled to claim a Keepthebeat hoodie in the new year. For more information and to take part please visit the website or the Facebook page. Once your entry and payment has been received you will be sent full details about the event via the email address that you provide. Testimonials Received

Both Tracy and Russ live up to the company name and more. They certainly are Not Just Travel, they are both so much more. We have had an amazing holiday arranged and organised by them which far exceeded our expectations and really was the dream holiday. It's not just the tickets you get but the back up and support is unquestionably the best I have received. The peace of mind they provided really did make it all so special. Thank you both so much and can't wait for next year. Liz Brewer.

"When we needed a tree taking down, due to damage its roots were causing, as an advertiser with us our obvious choice was Martin Page, our local tree surgeon. From when Martin called round to take a look to booking the date ,the service was very efficient. At the designated time the friendly team turned up and were remarkably quick and efficient. Not only did they take all the tree away, they ground the stump down to mulch so no stump was left sticking up. They also cleared all the leaves away too. They exceeded our expectations and did an excellent job. They are clearly skilled at what they do and I can highly recommend them if you are looking for any tree work or removal.
