Charity European Road Trip

Des, Paul, Lou and Kurtis, collectively ‘The Overtakers’ are about to embark on the challenge of a lifetime raising money for charity on their European Road Trip. During August they will be driving through nine European countries in just four days, taking part in The Two Ball Banger Rally. As if it wasn't challenging enough, they will be doing so in a 20 year old ex funeral Limo!

The guys are raising money for two charities, the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance and Loros Cancer Hospice, Leicester. They have already passed their initial target of £2000 but donations can be made via their website www.theovertakers.co.uk. The trip is fully self funded with all donations going directly to the charities and on their return the limo will be sold off with all proceeds going into the fund.

The trip covers 1200 miles in four days passing through France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Monte Carlo and back to France. Along the way it passes through the Black Forest of Germany, the famous Stelvio Mountain Pass, Lake Como and Monaco.

Community Page Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA)

GET INVOLVED IN AIR AMBULANCE WEEK AND HELP SAVE LOCAL LIVES The local air ambulance charity is urging people in the Hinckley area to give up an hour of their time and help save a life between 9th and 17th of September. Volunteers are needed at various locations in and around the town, including Castle Street, the Asda store and Woodlands Wyevale garden centre - to join an army of street collectors handing out pin badges in exchange for donations during Air Ambulance Week.

With your support the charity can keep saving lives in the local community. In the first five months of 2017 there have already been a total of 350 missions attended by the air ambulance helicopter and night car in Leicestershire. As well as street collections, the charity is encouraging local people to organise fundraising events during Air Ambulance Week. This can be anything you like from a coffee morning or raffle to a bigger community event.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) receives no government funding and relies totally on public support to remain operational. Each mission they fly costs £1,700. Air Ambulance Week is the charity’s biggest fundraising initiative and the success of it depends on the number of people who get involved. If you log on to their website wndlrairambulance.org.uk/give you can sign up for a two hour slot – or more if you like – to help out with a street collection near where you live.

Please contact the charity’s Supporter Services team on 0300 3045 999 or email enquiries@theairambulanceservice.org.uk

if you need any help or further information about how to do this.

Olympic Hero Pledges Support to Tracy Allen with Not Just Travel as they strive for gold success We, at Not Just Travel and based in Hinckley, are proud to announce that Olympic Gold Medalist, Daley Thompson, is our new “brand ambassador” and public face of our company. Tracy Allen has been a franchisee of Not Just Travel for 1 year and it’s because of their undisputable support that we have grown, strength upon strength, in our business. They have provided us with the knowledge and support to grow our travel business. Whilst we work independently, we also share in the successes and brand strength of Not Just Travel which we can now excitingly say introduces Daley Thompson to our team as the new brand ambassador. Said Daley Thompson, “It is an absolute pleasure to be working with the whole team within Not Just Travel, they have such a

passion for the work that they do. Talking personally with Tracy Allen, within the franchise I discovered the real people behind the business and how hard they work to bring the best for their clients. There is such vision, passion, dedication and inspiration.” Tracy Allen says, “I am delighted that Daley Thompson has joined our team. He is an invaluable addition to our company and, of course, a hero of mine. I am sure he will help us strive for even more future success, with his entrepreneurial, mentoring and coaching skills there is no better person to help us deliver even better results and of course the perfect holiday options for our customers.”

“This year, Debbie produced the brochure for Bamboozle’s annual Gala Dinner and Charity Auction. Working with Debbie was a wonderful experience! Bamboozle is a Leicester-based charity who produce magical multi-sensory experiences for children with profound and complex needs and their families. Bamboozle’s Gala is our biggest event of the year, and our brochure is a very important feature. The brochure includes the programme for the evening, inspirational stories from the families who benefit from Bamboozle’s work, and details of the fabulous prizes donated by generous individuals and businesses for our thrilling Charity Auction. Debbie understood exactly what we needed, and was great to work with from start to finish; she was so thorough and organised! A huge added benefit was that there was no cost involved for Bamboozle; as a local charity continually working to raise much-needed funds, this made a huge difference. Debbie featured adverts from high-quality local businesses which greatly supported our fundraising efforts and added to the quality of the finished product, which has a great look and feel to it. Not only that, but we had a digital version of the brochure which could be view online via our website! Debbie was there every step of the way - always approachable, giving great advice, and bringing everything together beautifully. The end result was a quality brochure fit for a glittering Gala. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Debbie. We can’t thank you enough!”

How good would it be to pick your own vegetables during the Autumn/Winter?

With more emphasis on health and healthy living, people are looking to grow more natural vegetables and fruit in their own gardens. Some people would love to grow veg but either their garden is too small or they haven't got a garden, only a balcony. BUT most gardens need weeding, digging, and after all that hard work they get attacked by ever increasing hungry slugs and snails. Then in the hot summer you use gallons of water every night keeping them alive - putting your water meter into as spin. Sound familiar!!!

Sue Tonks local owner and manufacturer got the idea because of the hard work traditional gardening can be only to see the crop dwindle.

HydroVeg Kits have built hydroponic gardens which cut out these problems. So "Gardening Made Easy". For all sizes of space and even balconies. No digging, weeding, slugs and snails and hey it even waters itself and saves 100's gallons of water over the summer period.

What can you grow? You can grow veg like courgettes, kale, broccoli, tomatoes, strawberries, beans, peas and peppers all through the summer. What is great is that it works all through the winter months too, giving you copious amounts of kale, spinach and other winter veg. Up to 41 pots of fresh veg, ready to cook and eat 365 days all year, all in a small space and not a slug in sight!

What is Hydroponics? It's a fabulous way of growing veg and fruit in water and minerals. What is a HydroVeg Kit? It is a free-standing frame with pipes and pots, which circulates water and minerals to feed the plants...NO SOIL!!

Who are the Kits for? People who want to grow more of their own fresh veg all year round. Children - it’s fun and clean and they can see plants growing quickly. Schools as part of the curriculum on science and food, and great for the school kitchen to cook. People who want to garden but have mobility issues as there is no bending or digging, all the pipes are within reach and ideal for people who only have a balcony or small space.

Hydroponics is the future of gardening. Join the new revolution and eat healthily while having FUN!!

Welcome to our August 2017 Newsletter Hello everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the summer! July and August are normally quiet months due to peoples thoughts being elsewhere - usually the beach, but this year it has been busy. We've rented and sold plenty of properties and the demand appears to continue. It's all good. If you have a property to sell, remember we only charge £600 including VAT, and if you have a property to rent, we are a professional licensed ARLA agent. Call us today on 01455 636349.

We’re over half way through the year – so how is the sales market in Hinckley? Well, here at Martin & Co we’re holding our own against the competition, and between us we’re selling plenty of property. The market is moving! Are you?

O As from the 1st April 2018 there will be a requirement for any properties rented out in the private rented sector to normally have a minimum energy performance rating of E on an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The regulations will come into force for new lets and renewals of tenancies with effect from 1st April 2018 and for all existing tenancies on 1st April 2020. It will be unlawful to rent a property which breaches the requirement for a minimum E rating, unless there is an applicable exemption. A civil penalty of up to £4,000 will be imposed for breaches – so if you haven’t got an EPC, call us to arrange one today!

Sue Roberts and her daughter Samantha set up Advanced Healing Therapies in 2010 after Sue suffered a life changing experience. Two car crashes in a few months, left Sue with a serious degenerative spinal injury. Sue’s world changed from being active and fulfilling to one of chronic back and neck pain and discomfort. In 2009, a friend of Sue’s found a treatment in the USA at Advanced Biomedical Technologies that could potentially ease the pain and discomfort and repair the soft tissue damage caused in the car accident. It took a year to save the money for treatment, flights and accommodation in America. At the time treatments were $120 per hour. After twenty one treatments in thirty days in Minneapolis, USA, Sue began to feel a real benefit – and was pain free for the first time in twelve years.

Sue and Samantha decided to bring the technology to Great Britain, open a clinic and provide the treatment to alleviate other people’s pain and suffering. Since launching their clinic using this technology, the business has helped more than 1000 clients (the youngest being 21 months of age, the eldest being eighty-six) with lower back injuries, frozen shoulder, arthritic joints, knee injuries, sports injuries, Achilles tendon injury, whiplash injuries, repetitive strain injuries, muscle fibrosis, fungal toe nail infections, post operative pain and scarring, caesarean scarring, insomnia and many other injuries and ailments. They have had amazing results with clients suffering with lymphoedema and fibromyalgia. Advanced Healing Therapies uses Nobel Prize winning technology which has been widely available in America for the past 20 years – but not here in Great Britain.

Based in Nuneaton, John, the “Hoop Guy”, teaches adults and children how to HulaHoop properly as well as providing various other forms of entertainment. John appeared on Britain’s Got Talent 2017, progressing through to the “LIVE” Semi-Finals, to show how much fun Hooping can be, and to encourage more schools to book the “Hoop Guy” to help school-children to become fitter and more active. A day of Hula Hooping at a school is not a “one-day-wonder” with lots of schools reporting that children are queuing up at break-times waiting for a hoop to become available as much as three months after his visit.

thighs, and knees. This also helps to develop your sense of balance as you control the movement of your body in combination with the movement of the hoop. This means that adults too can benefit from Hula Hooping and age is not really a factor. John learned to hoop at the age of 53, and now at 64 years, with 12 Grandchildren, is as active as ever, visiting schools all around the country and getting children, teachers, and lunch supervisors all hooping together. Of course, when it comes to Hula Hooping size matters, if you try a hoop that is too small you will be unsuccessful. John can advise the correct size of hoop for you, or your child.

John also offers Adult Hula Hooping lessons So, what are you waiting for? Beginners are always welcome. Contact John for more details. Hula Hooping, when done correctly, has lots of fitness benefits. It strengthens your back by working your core muscles, it massages away at the fat cells in your tummy (and love-handles) to help you get slimmer, trimmer and more toned, and it burns 70 Calories every 10 minutes, or 420 Calories per hour. The tricks that John teaches the children help with hand-eye coordination, rhythm and timing, plus spatial awareness as well as being lots of fun and helping with social interaction. The style of Hooping that John teaches also ensures whole-body fitness. You do not just spin the hoop around your waist, you also get to learn lots of fancy moves and tricks using hands, arms, shoulders, chest, hips,

Hi Debbie, I took my mum, my mum in law, my daughter and my six year old granddaughter came too. We had a fantastic time, we were really spoiled and the sandwiches were delicious with a variety of fillings, we also had a cheese scone and crackers with two different chutneys. Then they brought the cakes out, you should have seen the display it was amazing. We had scones with clotted cream and lovely strawberry jam, we had two different chocolate cakes, also a teabread and the cups of tea were unlimited. I can honestly say we all had a lovely time and I would definitely recommend Acorns to any body and the girls who looked after us were very friendly, we had so much food we ended up taking some home with us. I am so glad I entered the word search competition thank you. Lynne Liquorish, Wordsearch winner December 2016/January 2017

Advert on Page 20 "I have had my HydroVeg kit for about a month now. I've planted tomatoes, peppers, lettuces, courgettes, bok choi and broccoli. It's been amazing. All the plants have grown fantastically and now I'm starting to have fresh vegetables in my salads and stir-fries. In the hot weather you need to top the water up regularly as the plants are very thirsty - but it beats watering everything every day - and uses much less water. I turn the HydroVeg off at night (and I put the plug into a bag in case it rains). Can't wait for the tomatoes to ripen! Thanks Sue - I love it!" Sarah Thompson, Rugby
