Are you happy with the rate of return of interest on your Cash ISA? The new ISA allowance for 2017/18 is £20,000 meaning that for a husband and wife they can now place up to £40,000 within a tax efficient environment this tax year. However, the issue facing savers every day is low interest rates which are expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Perhaps you have already tried shopping around for a better interest rate without success and would be interested in solutions that may potentially provide you with a better home for your investments, whilst still benefiting from the tax advantages of an ISA. A Stocks and Shares ISA and a Cash ISA both offer tax advantages, but a Stocks and Shares ISA also offers a choice of funds to invest in. If you want to invest over the Medium to Long-term and would like the flexibility to select funds that match your attitude to risk then speaking to us could be for you.

So why invest in a Stocks and Shares ISA? It’s true that putting money in shares and other types of investments is more risky than investing in cash and events since 2008 have gone a long way to showing this. Historically, over the medium to long-term, the returns from shares have however been better than cash. However, past performance is no guide to the future.

Spread the risk Therefore, you could try to lessen the increased risk of investing in a Stock and Shares ISA as opposed to a Cash ISA by spreading your money across a range of assets, combining different types of investments such as:

    

Shares Fixed Interest – Corporate and Government Bonds Property Commodities Cash

If you would like to know more, then we offer a complimentary initial meeting, where we would be happy to explain the benefits of investing.

Recipe Railway Mutton Curry ‘A dish from the days of the British raj’ This dish was created during the days of the British Raj when an army officer travelling on a long train journey from Kolkata to Rajasthan ordered a mutton curry in the dining car as there was nothing else left. Finding the dish very hot and spicy he could not eat it. The chef, eager to please adapted the dish by using coconut milk and leaving out the fresh green chilli. The officer enjoyed the dish so much he ordered it every time he travelled. Now a well known dish still served today across the rail network in India.

Ingredients 100 ml vegetable oil/ghee 800g diced lamb 3 tbs ginger and garlic paste 1 tin of coconut milk 400 ml chopped tomatoes 2 large onions 3 bay leaves 3 star anise 5 cloves 1 inch cinnamon stick 1 tsp coriander 1 tsp garam masala 1 tsp fenugreek 1/2 tsp turmeric Fresh coriander to finish

Method 1. gently cook the diced onion until soft and just colouring, for about 20 mins or so 2. while onions are cooking prepare the spices as follows; add all the spices to a dry pan and toast the spices gently for a minute or two, this will release the flavours 3. add the spices to the onions and mix into a thick paste 4. add the ginger and garlic paste along with the chopped tomatoes 5. add the diced lamb, cover with a lid or tin foil, cook either in oven at 160 for 2 hours or on the hob on a medium heat again 2 hours. Add a little water if sauce is too thick 6. to finish, add half a tin of coconut milk and fresh coriander

Thanks to Mike Allen for the recipe

Serve with basmati rice. Enjoy.

Community Page Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA)

GOING THE EXTRA MILE TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY People go to extraordinary lengths to support the local air ambulance charity which receives no government funding and relies on public support to keep lifesaving helicopters in the skies. This month John Skelton (48) is taking part in six marathons in six days in temperatures of up to 50◦C in the gruelling Marathon de Sables event in the Sahara Desert - described as “the toughest footrace on earth”. The father-of-two has taken on the challenge in memory of a work colleague who died after a road accident which the helicopter attended. As part of his 14 hours a week training schedule John, who works in Coventry, has been on a treadmill in a heat chamber. He has also run over 800 kilometres (500 miles) since the beginning of January in preparation for his six days in the desert. If taking part in the Marathon de Sables wasn‟t enough to put himself through, during the event John will also have to carry his own food supplies and equipment and will receive time penalties for going over his daily water ration! Closer to home, runners who have been successful in securing places in the Virgin London Marathon, are taking part in the iconic event on behalf of the local air ambulance charity. Whether they are first time marathon runners or athletes who have competed in this marathon or others before, they all share the same motivation to complete the 26.2 mile course to raise funds to keep the air ambulance flying in Leicestershire and neighbouring counties. The local air ambulance organises a wide range of fundraising challenges for anybody wanting to support the charity – and perhaps cross something off their bucket list at the same time. The opportunities on offer range from looping the loop or wing walking on a plane to abseiling down a 400ft tower, cycling from Land‟s End to John O‟Groats or climbing the three highest mountains in the UK. To find out more log on to: wndlrairambulance.org.uk/challenge or give the charity a call on 08454 130999*. *Calls cost 3ppm plus your access charge.

3232 A professional womenâ€&#x;s business networking group launched last year for local businesses has proved to be extremely successful and now has 34 members. It is an exclusive membership group meaning only one member per profession/industry is invited to join which means it has a good, diverse mix of businesses. The September launch meeting was held with 31 women attending and was followed by similarly successful meetings in the last few months. It is apparent that this is a great way for many Leicestershire and Warwickshire women business owners to meet with each other. It is a friendly, relaxed yet professional monthly networking event over lunch to build new business relationships along with cementing existing ones. Karen Cureton, of Cureton Consulting, spoke at the March lunch meeting. Karen gave a very useful presentation on how to make the most of social media. It was agreed at the meeting that it is great that the group has such a wealth of knowledge within the members.

A

Guests are welcome to attend a maximum of two meetings a year as long as there is no clash with a business who is already a member of the group. The next lunch meeting is on Wednesday 10th May. If you are interested in joining this successful Women that Connect group and meeting with a vibrant, dynamic group of local business women please contact Debbie of Roundabout Hinckley for further information to see if your business slot is available.

Charity Link, a charity which supports people in poverty, hardship or crisis throughout Leicestershire, is looking for individuals and teams of friends, family or work colleagues to join it for its „Leicestershire 3 Peaks Challenge‟ on Sunday 24th September 2017. The charity, which has been providing essential items, including food, clothing and beds to local people for over 140 years, has devised a unique 16 mile route which takes in the two highest peaks in Leicestershire - Bardon Hill (which, at 912ft, is just 88ft short of a mountain!) and Beacon Hill. The third „peak‟ is that of Old John Tower in the famous Bradgate Park, previous home of the nine day Queen, Lady Jane Grey. So why not join the team making strides to help local people in poverty and see some of Leicestershire‟s most beautiful (and physically challenging!) countryside at the same time. You can choose to walk with the main group (the target is around seven hours) or for those looking for an extra challenge, runners are welcome to see if they can beat the Charity Link Leicestershire 3 Peaks Challenge record. Registration costs £15 and challengers also raise extra funds. Due to the unique way in which Charity Link works, for every £10 raised it can provide £50 worth of essential items – so by taking part you really will be helping to improve the lives of the most vulnerable local people. To find out all the details and/or to register please visit our website at www.charity-link.org/leics3peaks Charity Link also runs a range of other events and challenges throughout the year, including its annual golf day and a team parachute jump. For details call 0116 222 2218.
