The British Embassy has published advice for UK residents who are trying to return to their country of origin. They noted that the Spanish government has ordered that hotels and short-stay accommodation must close by midnight on March 26. These instructions do not apply to long-stay accommodation where people can cater for themselves, they stated. “The local authorities may ask British travellers to move hotels, as guests are grouped into smaller numbers of hotels, but they have underlined that no-one will be left without accommodation,” noted a spokesperson. “We advise British tourists in Spain who wish to return to the UK to make travel plans to do so as soon as possible.” spokesperson byThe Simon Russell stated that flights are still operating behis property. 2,050g, were welcomed by Yolanda Gil y Unai Ibarra. The other babies born that day were three boys and three girls. None of the babies had to be admitted to intensive care and all had gone to term and had a healthy weight. Although it was not necessary that day, Elche general hospital has the only neonatal ICU to cover the Vega Baja, Torrevieja and Vinalopó hospitals’ catchment areas. This is used for births before 34 weeks or which have other complications. Last year there were 1,169 births at Elche general, 38 of which were twins.

Fines for disobeying emergency measures By Alex Watkins

Three sets of twins were born within 14 hours at Elche general hospital last Tuesday, as well as six other births that day. The first twins to arrive were Yessica and Yariela Arboleda, at 11.26 and 11.28 and weighing 3,200 grams and 2,880g respectively to proud parents Yolanda and Manolo Ferrer. Then Irene García and partner Francisco Vicente Blasco welcomed Marco, weighing 2,600g at 13.00, and Francisco, 2,400g at 13.01. Finally, at 17.25 and weighing 2,500g came Noa and at 17.28 his brother Pau,

Local police in Alicante and Elche issued hundreds of fines to enforce the restrictions imposed by the government’s state of emergency to contain the spread of coronavirus. On Sunday an Alicante local police spokesman said they had filed 300 proposed fines and intercepted 508 vehicles last week. Fixed and mobile checkpoints, both for vehicles and pedestrians all around the city, are continuing, and since the number of police interventions keeps increasing, the spokesman called on people to stay at home. A man driving along Avenida de Vicente Blasco was stopped at a checkpoint and gave three different excuses for why he was out but was still given a fine in the end. Officers have also intervened when there have been groups of people with dogs outside playing in the street, as well as at homes that have

been having parties with loud music, and in one case a person who was accompanying an elderly person for a walk three times a day. On Friday Elche mayor Carlos González reported that the local police had asked 482 people for identification, made three arrests, issued 311 fines, detected 63 vehicles being driven without authorisation, and closed down 23 businesses

that should not have been open. He thanked the immense majority of the city’s 230,000 inhabitants for complying with the restrictions. The mayor also thanked everyone who is still working, especially those in food distribution, supermarkets, the media and public services, such as street cleaning, healthcare and law enforcement.

State of emergency edition The Weekly Post would like to thank its loyal readers and advertisers who continue to support their favourite free read during this state of emergency here in Spain. things interesting articles to help you and also keep you entertained through the lockdown. You will see that in order to comply with current restrictions that have affected many of our clients and readers we have had to reduce or temporarily suspend some sections - for example events

that can no long take place. We trust you understand these changes as the restrictions imposed have also temporarily reduced our workforce. But rest assured we will stay on the stands during this crisis and will be bigger and better when it all ends! Stay safe, stay informed!

Calpe thanks Chinese community By Jo Pugh The Chinese community of Calpe has donated 15,000 masks and nine large batches of hydroalcoholic gel, sanitising spray and gloves which will go to the Health Centre, Casa del Mar, the local police, the Guardia Civil, Civil Protection, the Colina Club, La Saleta, Domis VI residences and council staff who attend to the public. Representatives of the companies stated “Before we helped China because we are Chinese, and now

Spain because this is now our home”. Mayor Ana Sala thanked

the Chinese community for the initiative and the items have already been distributed.

BARE-FACED FACEMASK SCAM A Spanish man in Alicante has been arrested for defrauding numerous people by taking €726,000 in payments for facemasks to prevent COVID-19 that did not actually exist. Several people made complaints to the National Police that they had ordered masks to prevent biological infections of the brand Miller fft2 n95, and paid by bank transfer into an account in the name of the suspect but never received the products. To contact the victims, the suspect had made use of the legal data held by a company that he used to work for, explained a National Police spokesman. He said they were vulnerable people who, given the concern about the coronavirus

situation also contacted their relatives and friends and got them to order masks as well, creating a kind of pyramid scam. One of the victims even paid a €180,000 deposit for 500,000 of these masks, which represented 30% of the total price. One of the final destinations of these products was a public company that supplies pharmacies and other public companies, which had paid €300,000. The total amount of the fraud was €726,000 and police have so far managed to block €350,000 of this in several accounts but the amount could increase as the force’s economic crime group in Alicante is still working to clear up more similar incidents.

Campsite chaos By Irena Bodnarec The government decree issued last week, stating that all hotels, short term holiday rentals and campsites had to close caused alarm and upset throughout Benidorm’s campsite community. There were many mixed messages coming out on which sites would remain open and which would be closing. Villamar, by far the biggest in Benidorm, with 1,500 pitches and the vast majority being British nationals was sent into panic mode. Initially each was made to sign a disclaimer, stating that they would not hold the site responsible and that they were staying on at their own risk, with the shower cubicles reduced to ensure distancing. But that all changed last Friday, March 20 when they suddenly announced that the shower and toilet blocks would be completely closed and only those with independent hot running water, a toilet and shower in their caravan would be allowed to stay. A message was played over the tannoy system that door to door inspections would be made to each and every pitch, and those not able to comply would have to leave.

United we stand By Edward Graham

The reception was inundated with many angry Brits, asking where they were meant to go in the light of restrictions on movement. They would be left homeless and on the street. The Consulate spoke with the site owners, who reluctantly agreed that only those with stipulated requirements could stay, which came as a relief to some, but it still left many not meeting the criteria. Flights by Saturday were virtually non-existent and another couple ended up paying €500 each on British Airways to get back to the UK – and not even to an airport near their end destination. Full story in Costa Blanca News on Friday.

Jávea town hall has united to send a message of “encouragement, strength and responsibility” to residents currently confined to their homes in the emergency lockdown. The governing socialist party PSOE and the opposition councillors cast aside their differences to issue a joint statement - and a photograph of all 21 members of the local authority on the town hall steps - saying they jointly backed initiatives and faced the challenges of the Covid-19 crisis. “Staying at home - as much as possible - is the most sensible action. If we want to take care of ourselves and the people we love, then we have no choice but to break the chain of infection; and there is no more efficient way to achieve this than hygiene and confinement,” said Mayor Jose Chulvi reading the joint statement. “Movement limitation measures are not trivial but of absolute necessity. Our generation has not experienced such a situation and we have to stand up to face it; whatever is in our hands in each if us as individuals we have to do it well. “Therefore, there is no point at putting yourself at risk by breaking

the quarantine; nor does it make sense to panic buy - let’s be reasonable and think that everything we do has a consequence for society as a whole.” Councillors said they were very conscious of the very serious economic and social problems created in the “health crisis” and would support families, companies and workers and do everything necessary to mobilise resources to ease the economic paralysis. “We will prioritise the well-being of people and the survival of companies and jobs. Until we return to normality, the public works, the fiestas, programming of all kinds; everything will be put on hold.” And the town hall said it was very aware of the measures being taken by central and the Valencia governments to coordinate the response the coronaviris emergency. “The situation changes almost daily and, in this sense, we have to be firm in our decisions but flexible in terms of enforcement measures.”

Chairman of RNA Torrevieja Branch stands down Paul Edwards stood down from the post of Chairman of the Royal Naval Association Torrevieja Branch at their AGM on March 4, 2020. The members saluted Paul for steering the ship through the branches voyage over the last five years. The branch committee including the Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Secretary and Welfare Coordinator give a big thanks to Paul as Chairman for aiding the branch in increasing the membership and social events over the last 5 years. A quote from Paul about his time as Chairman is: “I have enjoyed being Chairman and would have continued except for the fact that during the past year my attendance to meetings and social events has been limited due to other commitments and illness. I felt that I was not giving the Association my full attention and it was unfair to continue when I knew the situation was not about to improve overnight. Besides, after about five years in the Chair, it is a good time for another

member to take up the mantle and I feel sure that the new Chairman will bring the required enthusiasm to enable the Association to continue to go from strength to strength. The most important thing I adhered to when I was in the Chair was to listen carefully to what everyone had to say, then from this information come to a decision myself. Communication is the key with our members and after removing emotions a correct decision can be made. Needless to say, that without the support of a good Committee (thanks to Danny – the Vice Chairman) nothing would have been achieved. I am now looking forward to attending meetings and social events including the menus del día as a simple 'Jolly Jack' and will remain involved with the Branch”. All the branch shipmates bid him farewell as Captain of the ship and welcome him as a valued crew member of the branch.

Sharing and Caring Team The Vall del Pop U3A is proud to have been one of the founder associations in the region to have established its Sharing & Caring Team. So, you are asking – what does a Sharing & Caring Team do? The answer is that they are there as a support for all members, not only those who are living on their own, but anyone who is feeling unwell, needs cheering up, needs visiting support during hospitalisation or just wants a friendly voice to talk to when feeling low. Our team of six members, based in the areas nearest to where they live, are covering the following principle areas: Pego and hospitals, Benissa and Jalon, Alcalai, Lliber and Senija, Murla and Parcent. Details of how to contact your nearest representative can be found on the U3A website or in the latest VdP Newsletter. In addition to this general support they have scheduled a Coffee Morning Get-together every second Friday of each month, coronavirus permitting, at 11.00am at the Memory Lane Café in Jalon. There is always a friendly face to greet you and the opportunity for a chat, some company, coffee [or tea etc] and, most importantly, yummy cakes – which alone are well worth a visit! Understandably numbers were down when I called at this month’s get-together, the last before the big shut-down, but there was still a very welcoming group ready to chat about any subject, finally Brexit is off the agenda, over our coffee. Why not come along as soon as life is back to normal, you don’t need to be on your own or feeling down come along anyway and enjoy an hour or two with friends. Hopefully when we get back to normal, we will be all sitting outside enjoying sunny warn weather. Don’t feel all alone and abandoned during this lock-down – call the Sharing & Caring Team and have a chat, there will always be a friendly response even if they cannot visit you. The U3A is all about enjoyment and learning, and this is particularly evident in the U3A Vall del Pop, whose members hold their General Assembly generally, fiestas and holidays permitting, on the first Thursday of each month at the Centre Polivalent in Murla, and have a diverse range of more than thirty groups for the interest of the members.

Charity support The Goodwill Team at the Vall del Pop U3A is leading our efforts to raise money for local charities through organising events such as cake sales, raffles, beetle drives and treasure hunts etc. These funds are then distributed in December to the charities voted for by the members. Last year, which was the first year for the Goodwill Team, some €1,600 was raised and distributed to six local charities, Jalon Valley Help, ARC, Scan, AFA Alzheimer Unit, Red Cross and Gandía Men’s Hostal. This year they have already raised some €900 and, coronavirus permitting, they had several events organised to raise more funds. Once the present restrictions are lifted the Team will restart their fundraising efforts. In an endeavour to increase the range of local charities which can be support the Goodwill Team are arranging for various local charities to make presentations to the members at the monthly General Assembly. At the March AGA, we had a presentation from Joyce Glenn on behalf of Cancer Care Javea, who have been raising funds (more than €1 million to date] to support research, hospitals, patient care and individuals in the fight against cancer in all its forms, and whose generous donations were recognised by the Javea mayor at their twentieth anniversary. Their vision is to provide a nursing team, led by their own Lead Care Nurse, to offer help and support to cancer sufferers and their families and to help with communications between patients and local hospitals at all stages of diagnosis and treatment. A well-deserving charity worthy of the VdP U3A support. In addition to these fund-raising efforts the Team also organised a collection of goods for Cáritas, which at the March AGA was presented to their representative. Thank you to all members for their generous support to our Goodwill Team in their on-going efforts to raise funds for local charities. Animal law expert joins the Costa Blanca News By Alex Wakins

Calp News

Animal law expert joins the Costa Blanca News team. Starting this week in Costa Blanca News, an expert and educator in animal law, Raquel López will be providing insight into topics that will be relevant for pet owners, animal welfare association workers and anyone with an interest in matters related to our furry friends in Spain. Having worked as a lawyer in this field for 15 years, she was involved in the legal rescues of more than 600 abused animals, obtained over 20 convictions against people accused of abusing animals, and mediated in the legal relocation of wild animals from four circuses.

Raquel now dedicates herself exclusively to training others about the subject, including lawyers, vets, trainers, animal welfare associations, local and National Police, environmental officers, Guardia Civil environmental service (SEPRONA), prosecutors, judges, councillors, teachers and university students. “My mission is to reduce mistreatment of animals and educate professionals who protect animals in order to fight the ignorance that exists in Spain, as this is the biggest problem,” she explained. In the first instalment, she will look into the legal aspects of taking dogs for a walk during the Covid-19 state of emergency. The national government’s

Spiritualist Centre, Benijófar The Spiritualist Centre, would like to advise everyone that due to the current coronavirus crisis the centre

in Benijófar will be closed until further notice. Once the situation changes meetings will start up again.

Raquel López

General Directorate for Animal Rights has created the first state protocol to regulate the care of domestic animals, including feral cats. This includes questions such as what documentation it is necessary to carry if stopped by the police and special requirements for potentially dangerous breeds of dog, amongst others. More information about Raquel’s work is available on her website, www.deanimals.com, and Facebook page: DeAnimals.

The Spanish government's measures to restrict the spread of coronavirus has many consequences for citizens of all nationalities living in Spain. Perhaps one less obvious outcome of the current requirement for everyone to stay in their home, other than to undertake essential journeys, can be the increased impact of social isolation and feelings of loneliness. The exceptional methods of containment recently put in place highlight just how important social connections are between friends and family. In addition, many of us rely on hobbies, interests and activities to get us out and about, and to connect with others in our community. It's also a sharp reminder that for many people life is a constant struggle coping with loneliness and social isolation, with or without the methods currently employed to limit the spread of coronavirus. Staying in touch with friends, family and neighbours can help to ease the feeling of isolation. The telephone and laptop can be a major help in maintaining contacts by sharing the ways you are (or are not) coping and by asking

those you know how they are getting on. Isolation measures are there to protect as many people as possible from coronavirus. It will be a temporary measure but if each of us make an effort to stay connected, it may make a difference to those who may be feeling alone, especially at this time. If you are feeling anxious or are suffering the effects of loneliness, Samaritans in Spain's teams of volunteers are here to listen to you, providing emotional support to all English speakers. Vitamin C protocol used to prevent coronavirus (Covid-19) infections

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, has infected thousands worldwide, raising fear and anxiety among the general population. There’s still an air of uncertainty surrounding this illness, but one thing’s for sure — like other viral infections, practicing proper hygiene rules, namely wash your hands often , avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with un-

washed hands, avoid close contact with people who are sick, put a 3-6 feet safe distance between yourself and other people. Nevertheless, bolstering your immune system seems to be essential to safeguard your health against Covid-19, as well. Certain protocols of intravenous (IV) vitamin C with other vitamins, has been shown to improve chances of both prevention and healing. Vitamin C, if blood levels are high, is a profound anti-viral agent. Viruses use an enzyme, neuramidase, to infect cells. The body fights back by increasing interferon, and other immune defences. Vitamin C

both inhibits neuramidase, increases interferon and inactivates many viruses so far tested, in cell studies when infected cells are exposed to high enough levels of vitamin C. In summary, vitamin C actually has more than a dozen different mechanisms for supporting immunity, particularly against virus, and can be safely infused IV in a high dose with practically no side effects.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET PREGNANT? It is a fact of life that some women become pregnant quickly and for some it takes longer. There is often no reason for these variables and this can further add to the upset. Factors that will influence conception time are: ■ regularity of sexual intercourse ■ your age ■ your general health and well being ■ your reproductive healthFor couples having regular sexual intercourse (every 2-3 days throughout the month) approximately 84% of those not using contraception will conceive within a year. About

92% will become pregnant within 2 years. A woman’s fertility does decrease as she becomes older. Women in their twenties have the greatest chance of conception with a 20 – 25% chance of conceiving with each cycle. A woman of 35yrs. of age may take twice as long to conceive and by the age of 40yrs. a woman will only have a 5% chance of conceiving with each cycle.

These are estimated conception rates in those couples who are actively trying to conceive without any medical assistance or intervention. The decline of male infertility in relation to age is much more subtle and is less well documented. The quality of one man’s sperm may deteriorate more slowly than another man’s. Medical conditions related to age may interfere with both libido and

erectile function, therefore reducing the chance of natural conception. The burning question is when to seek advice if you don’t fall pregnant despite your best efforts! In general, we recommend that you seek medical advice after approximately 12 – 18 months. However, for women in their 20’s / early 30’s (whom we would expect to conceive sooner), there is more likely to be a problem which could then be diagnosed earlier than this. For woman in their late 30’s / 40’s (whom we would expect to take longer to conceive), 18 months may medically be a realistic time to see a doctor, however time is of the essence for these women and it may be advisable to begin investigations earlier.

Some fun ways you and the kids can By Hannah Stephenson, PA

Top gardening influencer Ellen Mary reveals how families can reconnect with nature in their own garden. By Hannah Stephenson. If you're lucky enough to have your own garden, there's lots of ways you and your family could enjoy it and connect with nature and benefit from a wellbeing boost in the process. With social distancing at the height of the agenda at present, you might need to make sure you keep a safe distance from neighbours, so be sensible and follow the all-important guidelines. But gardens can bolster well-

can reconnect with nature in your own garden...

being for both children and adults, says gardening writer, presenter and horticultural influencer Ellen Mary. Mary, who specialises in gardening for wellbeing, has just launched a 30 Moments

In Nature challenge on her website (ellenmarygardening. co.uk), featuring activities to help people reconnect with nature. "We all lead such busy lives, with everyday stresses of work, school and digital life, that 'nature deficit disorder' and even 'plant blindness' has become all too real," she says. "There is nature everywhere, and spotting it, even in the most unlikely places, can give a much better understanding of how we are all connected - to nature, not our phones." Here, Mary offers top tips on how you and your children

1. Garden tracing This is an activity many of us took part in at school as a child and it's still really good fun, no matter what age we are. Children can learn about plants and trees in their garden, identify them and be outside away from computers and mobile phones. Studies have shown that walking among trees reduces levels of cortisol and can even boost the immune system.

Activity: Take a walk in your garden with some paper and a crayon. Trace the bark of a tree, if you have one, and a fallen leaf to stick on the paper by your tracing. Look closely at the tree, identify it, touch the bark and the leaves. Back inside, put it on your fridge. Each time you look at your tracing, remember how you felt in the garden, the smells and the air on your face.

reconnect with nature in the garden

2. Walk barefoot Walking barefoot brings us into direct contact with the planet and allows us to absorb the natural energy the earth provides. This is known as 'earthing' and it's said to have a host of benefits. Great

on a warm morning in the garden. Activity: Get your socks off! Put your shoes aside. Feel liberated by walking outside on the lawn or a soft outdoor surface with bare feet. Feel the natural negative

charge from the earth being absorbed through the soles of your feet. Allow it to happen, accept it. Breathe deeply and relax.

3. Spot a star constellation When we are busy looking down at phones and laptops, it's easy to forget to look up. By looking up at the night sky not only is it a hub of fascination and awe but it's also a relaxing activity before bedtime. Finding shapes in the moon and trying to spot star constellations can be a lovely way to switch off before a good night's sleep. Activity: Did you ever stare at the stars as a child and wonder what they are? Glistening in the sky, light years away. It's really good fun identifying star constellations but if you can't work out where Orion is, make your own shapes in the sky like a dot-to-dot drawing. 4. Sow some seeds Sowing seeds is now only a great way to grow your own food, but also for children to understand where their food

comes from. Great seeds to try with children are sunflowers, nasturtiums and microgreens, which grow really quickly. Activity: Be mindful and sow some seeds. Before you do, feel the seeds in your hand. What is the texture, shape, size? Look close at the detail - does each seed differ? Smell them and if they are edible, taste them. Be marvelled at the way those tiny seeds become big fruits, vegetables or flowers.

5. See life beneath Picking up a large stone from your garden, your children will be able to marvel at the life beneath. They'll be fascinated by the woodlice, ants, worms and beetles. We forget that inner child as we grow up and life takes over. Activity: Revisit those memorable moments with your children, lifting a stone in your garden and encouraging the children to stay inquisitive and keep looking.

HELP BUTTERFLIES THRIVE Butterflies are the focus of this year's Wild About Gardens campaign. Follow this seasonal calendar to tempt them into your plot. Get gardening for butterflies is the message from this year's Wild About Gardens campaign, organised by the RHS and The Wildlife Trusts. These valuable insects aren't just beautiful to spot. When they visit flowers to feast on nectar, they spread pollen from plant to plant, helping to produce seeds, while their caterpillars are a vital part of the food chain, feeding birds such as robins, blue tits and sparrows.

scabious, lavender and hebe, while not forgetting larval food like hops which can be grown up a fence. Keep your eyes peeled for species such as brimstone, comma, and orange-tip, recording your sightings online at Nature's Calendar Summer Warmer temperatures see butterfly numbers peak, in-

Spring As the first butterflies of the year start to emerge, now's the perfect time to create a mini haven for wildlife. Try planting up a border with nectar-rich plants such as

cluding exotic visitors such as the painted lady, which overwinters in North Africa. To give nature a hand, stop mowing a patch of lawn to let insect-friendly 'weeds' flower and give meadow butterflies a chance to lay their eggs on the grasses. Likewise for herbs, marjoram, sage and mint flowers are all great for butterflies and loved by the pretty little mint moth too. With lots of hungry caterpillars also about, look closely to see if you can spot any caterpillars on food plants such as hops, holly and nasturtium for signs of activity and avoid using any insecticides. Autumn Several species of butterfly including brimstone, comma, small tortoiseshell and peacock - overwinter as adults

and will seek out sheltered spots in late autumn to lay dormant until the spring. Others overwinter as eggs, caterpillars or pupae. Leave mature ivy to flower to offer a late nectar source (the flowers are also eaten by holly blue butterfly caterpillars) and fill some tubs or beds with sweet Williams to provide colourful nectar-filled flowers for butterflies come the spring. Winter If you're stuck indoors, take the chance to plan ahead. Why not make a list of the plants to grow next year to help fill any nectar gaps and lure in butterflies to lay their eggs? Remember to leave a window ajar on garden sheds or outbuildings, so that small

tortoiseshell and red admiral butterflies can shelter in them through winter and delay the tidying of dead stems in borders until late winter to offer lots of safe overwintering spots. You can make a pledge to help butterflies, find out about planting a butterfly border or a butterfly box, download a free booklet and find out more about wildlife gardening on the Wild About Gardens website (wildaboutgardens.org.uk).

Pros and cons of a holiday home

Trust us to se your property

THE purchase of a holiday home in Spain may sound nice and glamorous, but you have to leave fantasy aside to take on this purchase like any other property. You’ll have to consider the expenses that will be generated in terms of taxes and maintenance of the house, especially if it is empty for most of the year. Also, you need to take care of the property, especially if you decide to use it as an investment and put it up for rent as the best option for you, whether as a holiday, short- or long-term rental. In any case, you should think about whether you would manage it directly or transfer it to a professional company. Before looking for a holiday home to buy, first con-

sider the reasons and goals you want to achieve. Do you want to use it personally or as an investment? What will you do with it the rest of the time? Experts warn that emotions and attachment must be set aside if you’re going to use housing to earn money. "Keep your emotions separate, it’s a business," they state. If you are planning to rent out your home, then there is a clear time commitment that includes marketing, maintenance or dealing with tenants, whether short or long term. On the other hand, there is also a monetary commitment, for example, travel costs, or what you earn and what you must pay in taxes, a mortgage, community rates and so on. In addition, self-manage-

ment of a property means being available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in case tenants have any questions or problems. Some holiday home owners may enjoy handling the management process of the themselves. However, for those who live some distance away, it may be better to hire a property manager. For homeowners who want to keep the home for personal use, but don’t go there on a regular basis, you can hire a manager to keep an eye on the house when you’re not there. This will ensure that the house is kept clean and in a good state of repair. Renting a home via a website like Airbnb could be the most lucrative option, but like everything, it also has its disadvantages. Some downsides include

cleaning fees, more wear and tear on the property, and keep in mind that in the offseason you might not fill the house as much as you’d like. Renting on a long-term lease is the other option. It’s positive because you won’t have to manage the property on a day-to-day basis, but there are also areas where it’s more difficult to find.

You should also take into account if you would prefer it throughout the whole year, and divide the rent by 12 months, or maybe consider a holiday rental, if the house is in a popular destination in summer. And, above all, if you are going to want to enjoy the house yourself, then you would be limited by long a

deal a tenant has signed. Like any primary residence, a holiday home comes with a mortgage, taxes, and insurance. In addition, there will likely be additional costs such as maintenance, repairs, utilities and other community-specific charges. So bear all of those factors in mind before you take the plunger!

TOKYO OLYMPIC GAMES POSTPONED UNTIL 2021 By Jamie Gardner, PA The Olympic and Paralympic Games have been postponed until summer 2021 at the latest due to the coronavirus pandemic. A joint statement from the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 organising committee confirmed the news, following a conference call on Tuesday. The Games will not now take place in 2020, but will happen no later than the summer of 2021. "In the present circumstances and based on the information provided by the WHO (World Health Organisation) today, the IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021, to

safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community," the statement read. "The leaders agreed that the Olympic Games in Tokyo could stand as a beacon of hope to the world during these troubled times and that the Olympic flame could become the light at the end of the tunnel in which the world finds itself at present.

"Therefore, it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan. It was also agreed that the Games will

keep the name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020." The decision to postpone the games will come at some

cost, but the International Olympic Committee is unlikely to suffer heavy losses as a result of the delay. The postponement until not later than summer 2021 means that in many cases plans will be mothballed, and industry experts do not expect the IOC to be inundated with demands for money back as the Games are only being deferred, not dispensed with. The venue build costs for Tokyo have been placed at up to 15 billion US dollars (£12.77bn), but the plan is still that these venues will be used in 2021 instead.
