What a huge few weeks we have coming up to the end of the year. We started this week with the induction of Gloria Moyle into our Club. Welcome Gloria. Monday night we presented cheques to Kathleen Day Playgroup to assist them with the purchase of outdoor play equipment for the young people who attend their centre and to Kalgoorlie-Boulder PCYC to assist to upgrade equipment so that Blue Light Discos can commence in the Centre again after many years absence. Next week we will be inducting Lin MacQueenHenderson into the Club. On that night we will also be hearing about Anne's experience as an observer as part of an Interplast team that travelled to Fiji earlier this year. This will give us all a greater understanding of the Interplast Program. Lloyd has forwarded to me a report from Bowelscan. It is quite technical in places so I have pulled out some information that I thought would be of interest. On 2 December at the Club Forum I will get Lloyd to explain more of the detail so we all get a better understanding of the project. With an outstanding marketing programme by Brandino & Initiative we managed to claw back some of the losses of 2012. I have attached the details to show the extent of their endeavours, however with sales of 9985 kits and returns of 6941 (69.51%) I would like to think we can continue to grow. The 2013 programme is 99% complete. We are finalising lost/unsigned or incomplete registration cards and this as per previous years will not be completed until the end of the year in agreement with Western Diagnostic Pathology we will not leave a test untested in case it is positive, though certainly the format of the registration card needs some attention.

Issues this year included one Rotary Club closing down and another failing to run their programme. The loss of 57 Tests inappropriately stored, 65 expired kits were sold by 4 or 5 clubs these were picked up by path and subsequently replaced stock control will be an issue with the immunochemical test. Certainly the stock issue was a balancing act as neither Helena (our suppliers) nor ourselves wanted large numbers left over. Helena did a magnificent job and I thank them, and in the end we were left with 800 compared to 2012 4000 plus. Maybe this information doesn't make much sense but it is a little insight into the process. Lloyd will make it much clearer when he speaks to us. As I have mentioned in previous Bulletins it is a busy time coming up for the club. Some of the events we have been asked to be involved in have not had final detail provided so may or may not actually happen. Peter is still awaiting confirmation that we can run a chocolate wheel at the lighting of the Christmas tree. If that happens we will need members to run the wheel. It is planned to have chocolates, tinned hams and maybe frozen chickens. So keep the night of Wednesday 27 November free so you can give a hand. Paddington has been in touch to see if we would be interested in cooking for their Christmas party on Sunday 8 December. We are still waiting for confirmation of this. If it does happen we have 9 members, to date, who are able to give a hand. If that does not come off maybe we'll have a BBQ at 123 Piesse Street and a swim just for the heck of it! . Enjoy the rest of your week while you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

History of the Rotary Foundation At the 1917 convention, outgoing RI President Arch C. Klumph proposed to set up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world.” In 1928, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation, and it became a distinct entity within Rotary International. GROWTH OF THE FOUNDATION In 1929, the Foundation made its first gift of $500 to the International Society for Crippled Children. The organization, created by Rotarian Edgar F. “Daddy” Allen, later grew into Easter Seals. When Rotary founder Paul Harris died in 1947, contributions began pouring in to Rotary International, and the Paul Harris Memorial Fund was created to build the Foundation. EVOLUTION OF FOUNDATION PROGRAMS 1947:

The Foundation established its first program, Fellowships for Advance Study, later known as Ambassadorial Scholarships.

1965-66:

Three programs were launched: Group Study Exchange, Awards for Technical Training, and Grants for Activities in Keeping with the Objective of The Rotary Foundation, which was later called Matching Grants.

1978:

Rotary introduced the Health, Hunger and Humanity (3-H) Grants. The first 3-H Grant funded a project to immunize 6 million Philippine children against polio.

1985:

The PolioPlus program was launched to eradicate polio worldwide.

1987-88:

The first peace forums were held, leading to Rotary Peace Fellowships.

2013:

New district, global, and packaged grants enable Rotarians around the world to respond to the world’s greatest needs.

Since the first donation of $26.50 in 1917, the Foundation has received contributions totaling more than $1 billion.
