Welcome and Apologies

President Chadwick welcomed everyone and apologized for the absence of Dir. Mani and S.A.A Kemar who had an exam and Rotaractor Laura Bailey President Chadwick apologies for the lateness of PRO Mikhail, Dir. Lemar and Rotarian Nakia Rowe


BUSINESS MATTERS

o

President Chadwick announced that there will be a pink event and a large bake sale for breast cancer awareness on October 31st.

o

Next Thursday is End Polio Day, an email will be sent asking persons to take pictures with the “we’re this close” sign to commemorate the day.

o

President Chadwick announced that 14 people have registered for the Digicel Night Run which will take place on October 26th.

o

The Club Lyme will be on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Medusa. The cost is $1000; persons can drink for free until midnight. The Board Directors will do their best to organize transportation for persons living on campus and are without a car. VP Odile asked persons to dress semi-casual. Persons who have transportation issue are asked to speak with any of the directors.

President Chadwick announced that the NKRC wing sauce competition is on November 30, 2013 which will take place at the JPS Branch on Ruthven Road. The entry fee is $300.

o

President Chadwick spoke about the UWI 5k that is on November 17th. The money from the run goes to the school fees.

o

President Chadwick spoke about the hike that went well which took place last Saturday at Holywell.

o

Prospective Member Abigail encouraged persons to like the facebook page and to spread the word about the events as well as to follow us on twitter @RotaractUWIMona. It was announced that starting this Friday there will be Follow Back Fridays.

o

VP Odile announced that on Friday, there will be a bake sale taking place at main library, pink lemonade, cookies and cakes will be sold, persons were to come out and support.

o

President Chadwick announced to the prospective members that the membership application form will be sent at the end of the minutes. Completed Membership forms are to be sent to the Secretary, the facebook link will be attached.

o

It was announced that Breast cancer pins are being sold for $150.

o

Persons are encouraged to read the minutes.

o

Rotarian Nakia from Rotary St. Andrew North spoke about the history UWI Rotaract and encouraged persons to continue supporting Rotaract.

o

President Chad said that we need to be more involved in Rotary. Persons who are able to go to Rotary meetings are to contact him. We are partnering with Interact of Queens and we will need persons to visit Queens High School. There will be an Interact Competition between the Interact schools. 2

PETS (school-based) will be planned an sent.

o

Prospective Kimberly Hanson was selected to perform an Icebreaker. Nicholas is going to decide whose district dues he will pay.

o

Dir. Mani spoke about the coin drive where we will be asking persons to donate $10/20. It is compulsory that persons a part of the Fundraising Committee participate.

o

Rotaractor Vivette told the club that the Rotaract Club of New Kingston is hosting a raffle. The cost is $200 and first place prize wins a trip to Sandals Jamaica.

o

Rotaractor Lauren acted as Sargent-At-Arms for the meeting.

o

Chad welcomed Rotaract Simmonds from Liguanea Plains. They meet next week Wednesday at 6:30 at Liguanea Club.

o

Chad announced cutest baby competition will take place hopefully next meeting. Persons are asked to email scanned pictures to President Chadwick at allcommonletters@me.com.

o

The club played the game “Egg Basket” which was introduced by Dir. Jean-Paul.

o

Mrs. Donna Preston, Guidance Counselor from Campion College made a presentation on “Resume Writing”.

o

Prospective Danielle thanked Mrs. Preston for speaking to the club about proper Resume Writing.

o

Pres. Chadwick announced that a Professional Recruiter from Sutherlands will be making a presentation at the next meeting.
