{Elimination Round}  All the teams in the Elimination Round will debate on a single topic. Teams will receive the topic for the Elimination round one week prior to the event.  One member of the team will speak in support of the topic. He/She will be followed by the other member of the team, who will speak against the topic. Illustration: If there are 5 teams in the Elimination round namely A, B, C, D, E, then the order of speeches will be as follows: A {Speaking For} – 5 minutes A {Speaking Against} – 5 minutes B {Speaking For} – 5 minutes B {Speaking Against} – 5 minutes … and so on.


 Each speaker will be allotted 5 minutes for his/her speech. A warning bell will be rung at the end of 4 and ½ minutes and a final bell will be rung at the end of 5 minutes.  No additional time will be allotted for refutation. Participants are expected to include any refutation points in their speeches.  There will be no Question – Answer session in the Elimination round.  Four teams will qualify for the Semi-Finals. {Semi-Finals & Finals}  The four qualifying teams will be divided into two groups of two teams each. The winning team from each group will qualify for the finals.  Each group will receive a unique topic. One team from the group will speak in support of the topic. The other team will speak against the topic.  The format as well as the topic of the Semi-Finals will be revealed to the qualifying teams on the day of Eliminations. The format as well as the topic of the Finals will be revealed to the qualifying teams on the day of Semi-Finals.


Rules  Use of any language other than English is strictly prohibited. However, participants may use any such language while reproducing quotes, shlokas, poetry, excerpts from books etc.  Use of abusive language, profanities and/or slang vocabulary is strictly prohibited.  Participants who make defamatory remarks in their speeches or during the refutation may be disqualified.  Use of written material for reference during speeches is prohibited.  Participants are requested to adhere to a strict formal dress code.

Format  The topics for Spectrum 2010 will be given on the spot. The topic for each group discussion will be announced twice.  Each group discussion will be 15 minutes long and will proceed as follows:  Participants will get one minute as ‘thinking time’ to make notes for the ensuing group discussion. A bell will be rung at the end of one minute to indicate the end of ‘thinking time’.  Participants will then get thirteen minutes as ‘discussion time’. The second bell will be rung at the end of this duration of thirteen minutes to indicate the end of ‘discussion time’.  The group will get one minute to reach a consensus on the topic and summarise the preceding discussion with a conclusion. A final bell will be rung at the end of the fifteenth minute to indicate the end of the group discussion.

Format & Rules  Participants will be required to write a story/essay/letter etc. on any one of the provided topics. The piece of creative writing must not exceed 1000 words.  Topics will be revealed to the participants on the spot.  Use of any language other than English during the event is strictly prohibited. {Unless specified}  Plagiarism is strictly prohibited and may lead to disqualification.  Use of abusive language and profanities is strictly prohibited.


 Entry will be provided only on valid College ID or College fee receipt with a valid photo ID.  Any display of vulgarity/obscenity/misbehaviour will lead to immediate disqualification.  Revealing the College Name {unless specifically told to do so, by the members of Rostrum Spectrum 2010 Organising Committee} at any point of time will lead to immediate disqualification.  The decisions of the Judges/the Organising Committee will be binding and final.  Use of cell phones/laptops/netbooks and/or any other electronic communication device is not permitted during the event {unless specified}. Participants are requested to switch off such devices during the event.  Any sharp objects/batteries/inflammable objects/lasers/torches will not be permitted in the College premises.  Violation of any event rules will lead to immediate disqualification.  Damage to the College property will not be tolerated and will lead to immediate disqualification.  Contingent Leaders/Assistant Contingent Leaders/Participants must follow a decent dress code at all times.  The Organising Committee will not be held responsible for any loss of property or valuables.  The Organising Committee reserves the right to disqualify any participant.  The Organising Committee reserves the right to change any rules and regulations of the event.


Each College is permitted to send one Contingent to participate in Rostrum Spectrum 2010. The Contingent must be approved by the Principal/Director/other College Authorities. {This E-Mail contains a ‘Letter to the Principal’ for the College Authorities.} Each Contingent must appoint one Contingent Leader (CL) and one Assistant Contingent Leader (ACL). The CL and ACL of a Contingent for Enigma 2010 will be automatically considered as such for Rostrum Spectrum 2010. The CL and ACL will be responsible for registrations and other administrative procedures. There is no limit on the total number of participants sent by each Contingent. However, individual limits on the number of participants per event apply.

Contingent Leaders (CLs) are required to register for Rostrum Spectrum 2010 separately by using the Registration Form. The Registration Form is attached to this E-Mail as a .doc file. Contingent Leaders, who have not received the Registration Form, can request for one by mailing to us at rs2010registerme@gmail.com Guidelines for completing the Registration Form are specified on the Form.


CLs are requested to send in the filled-in Registration Forms by 18th November. {Participants may need several days to prepare for certain events. Thus, CLs are requested to send in their registrations as early as possible.}

Participants will be required to register themselves at the Registration Desk {set-up outside the event venue} by providing their College ID cards. In case the College has not issued an official ID card, the participants are requested to carry their fee receipt with a valid photo ID. Cross-college Non-Contingent Participation and On-The-Spot-Registration is permitted for all events except Rostrum 2010, Spectrum 2010 and R.A.P. M.U.N. Registration for each event will start at the Registration Desk half an hour before the event is scheduled to begin and will end 15 minutes after the event has started.


Step I: Register your College by entering the details on the Registration Form and receive the Events Registration Form via E-Mail within 48 hours. {Non-Contingent Participants are requested to enter 'Non-Contingent' as their College.} {Skip this step if you have already received your College Code.} Step II: Receive the Events Registration Form and fill in the details. Send the completed form to rs2010registerme@gmail.com. {Contingent Leaders are requested to E-Mail @ the above ID, in case of any substitutions.} Step III: Check the Home Page of Rostrum Spectrum 2010 website or your E-Mail inbox regularly for event updates. Step IV: The registration process will be completed at the event venue by the participants as specified above in the ‘On the Day of the Event’ section of ‘General Guidelines’.


All prizes, trophies and certificates will be distributed in the Awards Ceremony {unless specified} that will follow the finals of Rostrum 2010 and Spectrum 2010 as per the decisions of Judges and the Organising Committee. CLs of respective Colleges are permitted to collect prizes on behalf of the participants.


In addition to the prizes/trophies/certificates received by participants from the Organising Committee, Contingents will also receive points as per the Scoring System, on winning events. {Non-Contingent Participants will not receive any points under this system.} The Contingents with highest tally of points will receive prizes/trophies from the Enigma 2010 Organising Committee. NOTE: Rostrum Spectrum 2010 Organising Committee will not maintain a separate tally of the points under the Enigma Scoring System before/during/after the event. The CLs and ACLs are permitted to use the Joker to increase the point tally of their respective Contingents under the Scoring System. The CL/ACL of each Contingent can use the Joker on any one event of each type i.e. Jack, Queen, King and Ace. The Joker can be used by the CL/ACL on the participants of his/her Contingent only. If participants of a Contingent win the Joker event, then the points awarded to the Contingent will be doubled. If, however, the participants of the Contingent fail to win the event, then the team will receive negative points.
