ASHTEAD LIBRARY
SUMMER READING CHALLENGE - We hope the junior readers who completed the Summer Reading Challenge enjoyed the different books they read! Ashtead Library has been extremely busy handing out certificates to all the children who completed the challenge by reading six books over the summer break. Well done! Keep an eye out for our Halloween Event, details will follow shortly on our website.
Are you aware we have a Digital Buddy every Thursday 2-4pm? - A digital buddy is able to help with computer queries, using a library PC, your own laptop or tablet. If you would like any computer related help, then please book a slot at the desk or ring 0300 200 1001 and ask for Ashtead Library. WEEKLY RHYMETIME SESSION - This is a great opportunity to have fun with your baby/toddler through rhythm, actions and singing and introduce children to all the library has to offer. The Rhymetime session is available on Friday 10:15am for 30 minutes. Places are limited so please arrive early. Do you have an hour to spare on Friday morning? We would love to have another Rhyme Time Volunteer. Please look on line or come to see us at Ashtead Library. Keep an eye on our twitter account @AshteadLibrary for upcoming events and activities.
Congratulations to all the children who completed our Summer Reading Challenge before they went back to school last month. We hope it has helped to maintain your reading skills over the long break. Now, if you are already looking forward to halfterm, we’ve got some craft activities planned on Thursdsay 31st October, 2.30pm - 3.30pm. We’ll be making macramé hanging plant holders with those able to tie the knots, while younger children can decorate a little pot. Tickets are £1 per child from the Help Desk. This month, on 2nd - 16th October, Leatherhead Library is also holding an exhibition of wildlife photography by Jenny DeSoutter. The exhibition forms part of the 2019 Mole Valley Arts Alive programme. Jenny’s pictures were all taken in
this area, with beautiful close up shots revealing the wonders of nature around us. The exhibition moves on to Dorking Library 17th October – 1st November. Do you have a couple of hours to spare on a Thursday morning? We would really welcome a temporary volunteer to help us run our two Rhyme Time sessions for our youngest members. We run a half-hour session at 10am and another at 11am. It’s been said that ‘a library card is a powerful weapon to change lives’ (Val McDermid on Radio 4). Today you don’t even need your library card if you can download the Library app on to a smart phone! Please support your local library. Leatherhead is open every day except Sundays and Mondays, 9.30am - 5pm.
