Mokoomba, fronted by Mathias Muzaza’s lush voice, were raised in the small village of Victoria Falls as a part of the Tonga minority. Countries such as Zambia, Angola and South Africa were never that far away, though. Maybe here we find the explanation for their brew of Southern, African traditions filled to the brim with swaying hips, hand claps and festive brass.

R&B has been hijacked from glittery music videos and given back its heart and soul. Miguel is a womanizer and sexy MF with a weakness for female thighs and cleavage. At the same time he is a progressive musical mind that clearly wishes to continue the tradition of Marvin Gaye and Prince; complete with psychedelic rock arrangements and soulful song-writing.

Both rokia traoré and nubanour have won the Roskilde­Festival World Music Award.

Though many of the catchy tracks of My Bubba have the same wooden colours as for example First Aid Kit, there is more than forest soil under the feet of the Swede and the Icelandic. “Fuck The Pain Away” by electro provocateur Peaches is among My Bubba’s favourite tracks to cover.
