STAGE

hello

STAGE A single step or degree in a process; a particular phase, period, position, etc., in a process, development, or series

Elementary steps has led me to a journey into the graphic design world. The conception of taking a pen and adding life to a dull moment thrills me. The developmental stage brings in new ideas and leave old ones dormant. Maturation occurs as each stroke becomes more defined and each color palette becomes more distinct. Parameters are formed and boundaries are set in this world of entropy that i am introduced to. I am ready for the next stage.

PROJECT 01/ REHAB

A N A LYSIS My objective is to create a new skincare line for an existing company. The final product are to showcase a complete line of skincare and to produce a display dock in which the products will be held.

T HOU GH T S As a shopper of American Apparel, I yearned for them to carry a skincare line. When this project was given, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to design what I had always imagined their skincare line to be. Like the store, the skincare line was not only colorful and vibrant but also epitomize cleanliness.

Rehab consisted of seven products. Each product is colored and numbered differently so the consumer will know which bottle to grab according to their needs. The display dock represents a rehab facility. Just like the facility, all the “help you need is housed in one place. Since there are so many American Apparel locations, Rehab is to be sold only in-store where it will be suited best. The colors of each bottle is chosen to match the color palette of the stores.

PROJECT 02/ WITHOUT WINGS

A N A LYSIS My objective is to create a book to bring awareness to a global problem.

T HOU GH T S I chose poverty as the subject of my book. Poverty is something i see on a daily basis living in a big city. I wanted to bring poverty to the forefront by creating a book that highlights the problems and hopefully find a solution to a global issue.

My idea for this book was to create something that had a lot of negative space. My goal was for the reader to feel the emptiness and the importance of the issues. The outlines of each objects and blocks of color also help enhance the mood of the book.

PROJECT 03/ FLUENT

A N A LYSIS My objective is to create an invention and market the product through a mailer and poster.

T HOU GH T S My invention was a digital translator. I love traveling to Asia and everytime i am there, there would be some small hole-in-the-wall restaurants that i always want to try but due to my lack of understanding of a foreign menu, my options are limited. My invention FLUENT, would solve such a dilemma. It is a thin device that is the size of a piece of paper and you lay it on top of a medium whether it is a magazine or a menu. Then FLUENT will scan the text and decipher it into the language that is legible to you.

There were twelve pieces that fitted in a clear cube. Since everything was clear, looking through the cube from the top made all the pieces mix together creating a collage of letters and numbers that did not make sense. When viewed seperately, each piece was legible.

Both the mailer and the poster were interactive pieces that involved the viewer to move pieces in order to understand. The poster had the same concept as the mailer. The poster was made up of three clear pieces that sat on a slider stand that divided the three pieces. When the poster was viewed directly, just like the mailer, it was not legible. The viewer had to slide the three pieces into its order and when it is done correctly, it will read “change your view which was the motto of the project and Fluent.

PROJECT 04/ BRITA

A N A LYSIS My objective is to redesign an identity, create a corporate stationery system, and design a manuel for Brita.

T HOU GH T S I always thought the Brita logo was too strong and authorative. My goal for the logo was to soften the image and make it more approachable. After completing the logo, i designed the manuel with the same keywords i had for the logo; clean, fresh, and pure.

PROJECT 05/ THREE THIEVES

A N A LYSIS My objective is to choose a winery and design a line of wines that were both affordable and expensive.

T HOU GH T S I chose Three Thieves as my company. Although they are not a winery, I chose them because they are a fun company that I feel like they still believe design is important. The company is owned by three friends who wanted to sell affordable wine. They get their grapes from vineyards that have an overflow of harvest and want to get rid of it at a cheaper price. Each line of wine that they carry has a different fictional story behind them to make the wine itself more appealing. Therefore, I found it was only appropriate that I carry on this tradition and design a line about the three founders.

PROJECT 06/ BASKIN ROBBINS

A N A LYSIS My objective is to redesign an identity and design a manuel for Baskin Robbins.

T HOU GH T S I grew up eating Baskin Robbins. It was the closest ice cream store by my house and i loved it. Now we have so many options of ice cream and frozen yogurt that it is hard to even figure out which one to go to. So when we had the opportunity to redesign any company we liked, I chose Baskin Robbins. I feel like Baskin Robbins had gone way too childish for my liking. I believe Baskin Robbins have history which most other companies do not. I imagined them to use that to their advantage and bring the nostalgia of what they use to be.

PROJECT 07/ MOOD

A N A LYSIS My objective is to create a line of paints for a company.

T HOU GH T S I love Target. I can pretty much find everything there. So when our project was to choose a company to create a line of paints for, i thought Target would be fun. Since they already have a home section, why wouldn’t they create a paint line? Thus, i created Mood.

PROJECT 08/ KNACK

A N A LYSIS Our objective is to open a store for Martha Stewart and design the company logo and products.

THOUGHTS This was a group packaging project. We were a team of five that had to open a new store for Martha Stewart. We were given the store name Knack. The store was to have departments that included stationery, garden, kitchen, etc. At the end of the project, we had more than 80 skus for the store.
