Introduction Welcome to this the inaugural DMACK tyres Carlisle Stages. This brand new rally based around the challenging and popular Kershope and Newcastleton forests, forms round three of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship. The event is organised by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club who bring you the Roger Albert Clark Rally every November. It is the organisers’ aim to recreate the friendly atmosphere of this popular rally, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The format of the new DMACK Carlisle Stages, round two of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C Rally Championship, on Saturday 22 June will centre on a route containing 45 stage miles and just 65 road miles and this will make it one of the most compact gravel rallies of the season. The DMACK Carlisle Stages is designed to be a great day’s sport in some classic forests with a very compact route and a first class rally HQ. With the first car starting at 10am and finishing at 3pm, local crews will not necessarily require any accommodation. The event is based around the superb start venue, rally HQ and service area at the premises of the hauliers R J Murray & Sons in Longtown, just north of Carlisle. Their premises are situated just five minutes from junction 44 of the M6 and will host documentation, scrutineering, service area and overnight secure parking within a warehouse. Scrutineering will be held from afternoon to early evening on Friday, and then the cars will go into the secure overnight park, prior to the start on Saturday morning at approximately 10:00hrs. The rally is scheduled to finish at 15:00hrs and all things being equal the awards presentation will take place at about 17:00hrs. There will be an option of Saturday scrutineering, by prior appointment only.

The action starts with a four-mile stage in Arthur’s Seat which has not been used for around five years followed by seven miles in Newcastleton and a stage of ten miles in Kershope. After service back at Longtown, the three stages will be repeated.

2

The route will take in six stages in some of the region’s best-loved forests. Since the original draft of this guide the stage at Chamot Hill has had to be withdrawn due to unforeseen circumstances. However no overall mileage has been lost as the Chamot Hill distance has been added to SS3&6 Kershope so the overall stage mileage remains as was originally planned.

Introduction from Clerk of the Course – Nicola Heppenstall On behalf of the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club I am pleased to be welcoming you to this the first running of the DMACK Tyres Carlisle Stages. Most of you will know that this brand new event has been put together to form the third round of the West Wales Rally Spares R.A.C. Rally Championship following the postponement of two of the earlier championship rounds. I am delighted to have been asked to put this event together and I am extremely pleased to welcome DMACK Tyres as the title sponsor for this event. They are a prominent Cumbrian company and to have them on board for this round of the championship is fantastic news for rallying in the North West of England. At this point I also want to thank R J Murray and Sons, whose premises at Longtown will be our Rally HQ for the weekend. Additionally I am grateful for the co-operation of the Forestry Commission and other landowners along the route without whose help I would have been unable to put this event together at such short notice. The route, which I have put together is compact and challenging with classic stages in Cumbria and the Scottish Borders, one of which has not been used for over five years. As well as catering for contenders in the WWRS R.A.C. Rally Championship, the DMACK Carlisle Stages will be open to all other cars and is ideal preparation for anyone planning to enter the 2013 Roger Albert Clark Rally, which runs across similar forest stages. With a maximum entry of 100 cars plus 10 reserves, and an entry fee of only £450.00, this event is sure to fill up fast.

All that remains for me to say now is thank you to everyone who has helped get this event off the ground and to welcome you to Longtown in June. I am hopeful that the weather will be kind to us. I will see you there and here’s to a great day of rallying.

Event Detail and Schedule Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club Ltd will organise a National B Forest Stage Rally on Saturday 22nd June 2013 titled The “DMACK Tyres Carlisle Stages Rally. The event will be jointly promoted by the Roger Albert Clark Rally Motor Club Ltd and the De Lacy Motor Club Ltd. The premises of R J Murray and Sons Longtown, Carlisle, [Sat Nav Post Code CA6 5TR], will host event scrutineering, documentation, central service and the awards ceremony. With the event based around this excellent central location, the rally will have a small liaison to special stage mileage; the total route will be approximately 110 miles in length including 8 gravel surfaced special stages [2 loops of three], totalling approximately 45 miles on private forest roads. This means that this rally will be one of the most compact in the R.A.C. Rally Championship calendar. Entrants will be supplied with a tulip style road book which will include colour stage maps (not to scale) based on the 1:25,000 OS Explorer map. The whole rally route is contained on OS Landranger maps 79, 85 and 86 [A marked overview map based on the 1:50,000 Landranger map will be supplied in colour to all competitors at signing on].
