LENHAM

In the middle ages, pilgrims passed through the village of Lenham on a journey to visit the shrine of St Thomas Becket in Canterbury and found warmth and hospitality in this quintessential English village situated on the edge of the North Downs. Fast forward a few centuries, and the sights and sounds that must have greeted these tired and thirsty visitors remain remarkably unchanged; the tithe barns, the medieval timber-framed buildings, the smoking chimney stacks and the

impressive village square, still the hub of the community. From the local greengrocer’s and butcher’s shops to tea rooms, antiques shops and restaurants, all kinds of thriving independent traders co-exist here. Of course the regular market has been a draw for over 500 years but there is no shortage of attractions or useful services in and around the village. Among them are two pubs, including The Dog and Bear Hotel (its proud coat of arms is dedicated to a former guest - Queen Anne),

a delicatessen, a bakers shop, a flower shop the community centre, public library, doctor’s surgery and post office – all of which go about their business beneath the tower of the 14th century St Mary’s church. This timeless scene makes Lenham an undeniably attractive choice for anyone wishing to lay down more permanent roots or feel closer to the year-round rhythms and cadences of an authentic Kentish village.


THE PERFECT

Situated in the green hinterland below the North Downs escarpment, Lenham has the advantage of enjoying a traditional rural location whilst being no more than 10 miles from the wellconnected market towns of Maidstone and Ashford.
