™A few year ago I realized that looking through a window, for example a Romanesque window in a church, if you are inside the church and you look through the window, you have projected the form of the window into the space outside, in the infinite space outside. And then I had suddenly the feeling that this projection of the space concerned with the form had a different density to the rest of the space™ Chillida

Permeability among different volumes directed to the main view. Soft dispase between them that allow the creation of patios and roads.

The difference of heights will allow different frame views to the landscape. Light coming in tranforms this space and its atmosphere.

Walls are intruding the landscape in a natural way. Thus, pavilion seems to be part of the land and the shape is extended towards the trees.

urbanism projects Urbanization Benifairó and Analysis of High Line Project Team. | Fernando Salado | Rodrigo Yañez | Hugo Uteau |

The project carried out in the community of Benifairó in Valencia shows the urban development in a town with few inhabitants, where the scale, landscape and transition between the elements built with the gardens have been prioritized, which are of great social value in the city. The next project is an analysis through an urban diagnosis, which allowed to know the benefits that has brought the High Line in New York.

Mobility

The new residential buildings make inevitable to think in a model that values its surroundings and allows the pedestrian connection with the new equipment and the current one.

The silhouette of the landscape is an element present in the atmosphere of the town. When walking, turning to a void, the mountain is a referent.

Broad population sector is dedicated to services. This will encourage the generation of employment, through a market of local products, produced by the garden.

The car loses its speed to give the pedestrian greater mobility and safety.

30

There is a limit between Benifairรณ and Faura through a landscaped pedestrian passage that does not contemplate the appropriate dimensions on its sides, only in the center causing residual spaces.

The street becomes larger, without sidewalk, which makes it possible to use a car and its free parking on the street, preventing the pedestrian from having a clear circulation

The sidewalk is of minimal dimension and next to it the street allows the parking of a car and the circulation of another, without sidewalk on the other side.

The avenue has 4 lanes for cars, 2 of them are stopped for parking. The sidewalks are still narrow

It is possible to see in the limits the new layout of streets and sidewalks, where there is priority for the use of car, with very narrow sidewalks

Garden / Vegetation One of the great attractions of Benifairo is the unbeatable views of the mountains and the extensive green area of cultivation, so it is essential to mark this as the limit of urban growth, taking advantage of its productivity in the crop as well as its attraction visual.

Rural Workshop As agriculture is the largest source of income within the community, it needs to have a building that allows farmers to perform their work optimally by backing them up with the necessary services.

Design of building and urban spaces As part of the urban approach we tried to arrange the buildings in relation to the visual axes to frame in a way both the exterior landscape and the elements that are part of the configuration of the village. All this through longitudinal buildings that have between 4 and 3 levels.

Local market A market that exclusively sells local products, encouraging the growth of the local economy and linking the common inhabitant to production activities, reinforcing the identity of the farming community

So be it the force of self construction, the force of common sense, or the force of nature, all these forces need to be translated into form, and waht that form is modelling or shaping is not cement, bricks or wood. It is life itself. Design´s power of synthesis is just an attemmpt to put at the innermost core of architecture the force of life. Alejandro Aravena

social housing Casa Muyuguarda Mexico has a particular problem in terms of social housing. Architecture without architects is now a reality. More than 95% of the buildings have been built in an irregular settlements without any professional advice. For this reason, the University of Mexico has proposed a program of contribution to families living in marginal areas of the City, to offer architectural advice and design a better home that meets the following three characteristics: economic viability, use of local materials and quality in the livability.

37

rodrigo yaĂąez | portfolio 2018 |

The main characteristic of the property is that it is shared with 3 other houses, so it is essential to have an entrance hall, thus limiting the width of the house to only 4 meters. As for the program, the family wants to have a commercial space, with independent access. Also they want to have a large living room where the 4 families can meet. The bedrooms will be on the upper level with the premise of giving privacy in the spaces due to the proximity of the house on one side. The house can be built in different stages according to the budget of the family. A -3stage follow-up is estimated. Use of materials without finishing, red brick, slabs and concrete beams, details in rod and aluminum.

LOW LIVABILITY

1ST STAGE

2ND STAGE

3RD STAGE

Lack of quality in the livability of spaces. Materials in walls and ceilings wore out probability of collapse. The building would be tear down.

Corridor for entrance to other homes, limits the dimensions of the width of the house, which is why the horizontal scheme in the first stage.

The construction of the following stage is estimated when the family can afford the expenses. It will have one more bedroom and a private living room.

The third stage takes into account one more room as well as the roftop terrace. Due to the proximity to the house on one side, we seek privacy through a latticework, and illuminating with skylights at the top.

Xochimilco is a large natural area in Mexico City, however self-construction has deteriorated the image of the city, breaking down the social fabric. The proposal aims to accomplish the basic needs of the users, giving priority to the common sense and taking into account the economical resources.

The closeness with the people is a way to contribute to the improvement of the city.
