Volume 3, Winter/Spring 2016

Support from the VWR Foundation In the fall of 2015, the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) received a generous gift from the VWR Foundation to fund our Ladies 1st, STEM for Girls program. The program enables young women to gain the education, training and skills needed to succeed in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math. This pilot program will empower girls and increase their confidence in STEM. This gift allows the RMSC to offer scholarships to girls from low socioeconomic households. Thank you to the VWR Foundation for this fantastic support.

STEM Leaders Honored Nearly 200 teachers and community leaders came together on Wednesday, March 9, for the inaugural RMSC STEM Awards at the newly renovated CityView Ballroom at the Strathallan Hotel. The RMSC STEM Awards’ broad recognition of educators, entrepreneurs, researchers and civic leaders in one context is a deliberate public acknowledgement of the shared responsibility to support and promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning. Members of the community nominated individuals and organizations for four distinct STEM awards; including Leadership Awards in STEM Education at the Elementary, Secondary and University levels, as well as a Catalyst Award.

Thank you to all of the nominators, volunteers and sponsors who made the first year of the RMSC STEM Awards a success. Congratulations to all of the very deserving nominees and winners; your inspirational work prepares students for exciting futures and continues to make Rochester a hub for innovation and discovery.
