a few of my favorite things this season

I’m smitten over classic wedding gown silhouettes and gorgeous sleeve details, like the dress elements on our Canyon City bride, René. Elegant weddings are timeless and will be very popular in 2015! I loved how we combined the rustic and earthy style of C Lazy U Ranch with an upscale design. And the baby llama’s on the ranch are just too cute! Of course, what’s not to love about a vintage wedding? Our French Countryside place setting was the perfect blend of antique and European charm.

“Tyler and I got married in Estes Park surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains. I’v grown to love summer after summer. For a bunch of Texans, the crisp mountain air was the perfect Labor Day Weekend escape from the heat. The whole weekend was bursting with anticipation, joy, and so much love for each other, our families, and our close friends. I wanted my bridal portraits to be taken in nature and Ali was quick to find the best spot. I’ve grown up loving the outdoors and hiking so it was fitting that the shoot involved some rock climbing in my wedding gown. Ali made me feel comfortable and managed to capture my personality and love of the mountains in every shot.” - Julie, the bride

Shannon & Nick - Forged in the North

The Rocky Mountains

real wedding

Shannon & Nick telluride

On September 21, 2014 Shannon and Nick tied the knot at the panoramic San Sophia Overlook in Telluride. The two met at an Iowa football game in Miami, where they quickly learned they had attended the same grade school and college! After a fun-filled year of friendship, they went on their first date and the rest is history! Nick popped the question while on a gorgeous sunset hike in Italy, which was a trip Shannon had planned, so she was completely surprised when she turned and saw that Nick was on one knee! The two planned a gorgeous destination wedding in the Rocky Mountains and celebrated their love for life and adventure with their closest friends and family!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Theme: Since Shannon and Nick planned a destination wedding,

they really just wanted people to feel like they were on vacation- with a bonus wedding thrown in at the end! Shannon tells us that they “felt so thankful that all of our favorite people traveled all the way to Colorado to be with us. We made sure guests had fun activities throughout the week and tried to make our wedding as easy, laid-back, goofy, and amazing as humanly possible.” They chose a color palette of blush, gold, and ivory. Shannon and Nick wanted to keep it neutral so the beauty and colors of Telluride could be part of their wedding theme.

The Dress: Shannon invited her mom and bridesmaids out to Chicago for a girls’ weekend and start the dress hunt. Shannon wanted something simple with lace, and she ended up finding her gown in Des Moines, Iowa, where her sister lives. Her lace, A-line Alvina Valenta gown was a stunner and made for the perfect mountain wedding dress.

The Flowers: “While searching for wedding venues, I kept finding

myself drawn to the same website (Love This Day Events), obviously because Kara’s and Rachel’s work is so amazing, but primarily because I was OBSESSED with their floral. I think I told Kara I wanted something pretty and amazeballs, and she basically created the wedding and floral of my dreams.”

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

“This is really impossible because I had SO many favorites. If I was forced to pick, I would have to say our vows. We chose to write our own, and I laughed out loud when Nick pulled out a long scroll! We kept them a secret from each other, and I think they were the perfect mix of sweet and funny. I am definitely NOT a public speaker and am not one to profess my love on top of a mountain, but we did and it was awesome! A close second place was our super amazing photography, our insanely beautiful wedding video, Telluride in general, the view at San Sophia, and the flowers!”

The Favorite Detail:

Shannon loves desserts, but not cake, so Chef Mike at Allred’s put together a dessert bar for the couple, complete with chocolate-covered strawberries, flourless chocolate cake, and sticky toffee pudding!

The Sweets:

The Food: Shannon and Nick still rave about the venue and food at Allred’s! Their first course was a summer vegetable salad, followed by mushroom soup. For entrees, guests had the choice of Alaskan halibut with king crab leg, grilled prime beef tenderloin, or tamari marinated tofu with grilled vegetable kebabs. Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “After cocktail hour,

Nick and I went back outside with our photographers and videographers to shoot a little more. Not only was the sunset incredible, but it was so awesome to have a little time to ourselves as a brand new husband and wife! I could not stop smiling and laughing.”

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

Advice for RMB Brides: “Pick vendors not only because you love their work, but also because you genuinely like them as people. We were SO lucky to have ended up with the most amazingly talented individuals, but also literally some of the best people around. We could not have felt more taken care of, and I had ZERO stress on wedding day. Everything turned out better then we could have ever imagined, and we walked away with new friends! Three Words: Sincere, Goofy, and Amazeballs.

Rebeckah & James T T : Je eagle he

The Flowers20, : J 2014 in Eagle, where Rebeckah and James said “I Do” on September they grew up together. After eight years of dating, James proposed to Rebeckah on the eve of her birthday asress part: of The D Afa surprise getaway to Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Tabernash. James had arranged a horse-drawn sleigh ride, followed by a fire pit, where they gathered with hot cocoa and smores. As they sat enjoying the snow and talking about their Favorite etailsand. : M Buried in journey, James handed RebeckahTahe mason jar filledDwith the sand was a ping pong ball, which James opened to reveal his family heirloom diamond ring! These two high school sweethearts celebrated in the beautiful mountain town they call home with friends and family, who witnessed them becoming husband and wife, “finally!”

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Theme: Rebeckah and James chose a “rustic elegant” theme for their wedding. They wanted to accent the rustic beauty of their hometown in order to create a welcoming and warm celebration for guests while, also including classic, timeless elements. They chose a neutral palette of grays, taupe, and creams, with splashes of rusty orange and silvery blue. The Dress: Rebeckah found her gorgeous ivory, strapless, fit-and-flare mermaid “Catalina” gown by Rivini at Little White Dress Bridal Shop in Denver. The bodice was wrapped in delicately ruched tulle, and the train was organza. The dress made her feel so very beautiful and graceful! Rebeckah tells us that “the dress-hunting process was all the more special because of the people who helped me. The ladies at Little White Dress were incredible! Kindhearted, earnest listeners, they made me comfortable and happy through the whole process. I would definitely recommend Little White Dress! I enjoyed time with and advice from my mom, aunt, and grandmother while searching for the dress (including a girls’ getaway to Dallas!). When I finally decided on a dress, my dad was able to be there, too. It was a blessing to have these dear people as part of my experience!” The Flowers: Rebeckah and James worked with the talented Dora Farley from Petals

of Provence to create the perfect combination of texture and color in their wedding day floral design. Rebeckah adored the bright colors of in-season Dahlias, and the silvery-gray of thistle, which paired together to create her rustic look!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Favorite Detail: “James’s father passed away about two

years before our wedding, and as a nod to him, James, his sister Kate (who was a bridesmaid), and his mom each carried one of his handkerchiefs. James also wore his father’s watch. It was special to incorporate these parts of someone so beloved in our ceremony. “

The Food: Because Rebeckah loves to cook, attention to food was

very important! Guests enjoyed a buffet of pulled pork and brisket from Moe’s Original Barbecue, paired with an Artichoke Quinoa dish, artisan loaves and rolls, a mixed greens salad with white wine vinaigrette, new potatoes, and squash. For dessert, the couple served a four-tier butter cream cake designed by Mountain Flour, filled with layers of coffee-soaked tiramisu and white cake!

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “Our first dance was special to both of us.

In reflection, it’s definitely one of our favorite moments of the whole day. As the music came on, I could tell James was a bit nervous about getting the rhythm and timing right from our Texas Two-Step dance lessons. But almost immediately, we fell into a rhythm. The many loved ones we had gathered that evening made the night incredibly special, but with everyone watching in that moment, it was just us two. It was intimate, memorable, precious, and full of love. Our dance ended with a dip and a kiss, and right then, we were both incredibly comfortable and happy.”

Advice for RMB Brides: “I would encourage other brides to be present in the experience while remembering that the celebration is about the marriage more than the wedding. And above all, hold fast to the loved ones who offer consistent and kind encouragement, do not be afraid to take friends up on their offers to help, and realize the community of people who are supporting you two in this union and adventure.” Three Words: Community, Heartfelt, and Fun!

Melissa & Mark aspen

Melissa and Mark had their intimate ceremony on June 28, 2014 at the breathtaking Maroon Bells Amphitheater in Apsen followed by a celebration dinner at Rustique Bistro. Despite growing up two blocks away from each other in Colorado, the two met online! They met at a tapas and wine bar for their first date and ended up staying until close. From that point on, they were a perfect match. Mark proposed to Melissa while on a trip to San Francisco, where they visited wineries and friends. The two celebrated by packing a picnic basket and heading to the next winery where they called friends and family to share the good news!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Theme: Melissa and Mark chose a “rustic vintage” design for their wedding. They went with a color palette of mint, coral, and ivory to complement the summer landscape of Aspen.

The Dress: Melissa adored her Sassi Holford lace fit-and-flare, which

had a sweetheart neckline and pearl buttons down the back! She knew it was the one when she tried it on at Little White Dress Bridal Shop.

The Flowers: Melissa chose coral peonies, roses, dusty miller, ivory

ran, with other coral accents, which were hand-tied with lace for her bouquet. After seeing the design in a magazine, she fell in love with the colors and look. It also matched her rustic vintage theme perfectly.

The Favorite Detail: “My sister and brother-in-law, who are both

musicians, wrote a song especially for our wedding and performed it as part of the ceremony. The song is titled ‘Forever Yours.’ My sister sang while my brother-in-law played acoustic guitar. It was beautiful, and very moving.”

Three Words:

Unique, Intimate, and Breathtaking.

The Reception: Melissa and Mark chose Rustique Bistro for their reception because of the rustic feel and French country food menu, which the couple fell in love with after a trip to France and Italy. The group started at the outdoor patio area for cocktail hour, complete with an open bar, passed wine, and appetizers. For dinner, they moved to the private wine room downstairs. The menu included three courses, with options to choose from for each course. Their favorites included crab salad, mussels, Steak Au Poivre with pomme frites, braised short ribs, and duck confit. Delish! The group ended the night at Eric’s down the street after dinner for some dancing and late night celebrating. Advice for RMB Brides: “My

advice to other Rocky Mountain brides would be to try not to sweat the small stuff the day of the wedding.Things are going to go wrong – just expect it and be prepared to let it roll off your back. I let myself get too wrapped up in all the chaos and things that didn’t go as planned the day of, and I wish I hadn’t. Besides, when you start walking down that aisle, it all fades away and you realize what is important. It’s not the flowers, food, dress, or whether or not everyone is comfortable and getting along. It’s that you found someone in this crazy world who loves you for who you are, and you couldn’t be more thrilled to spend the rest of your life by his side. My other piece of advice is don’t be afraid to think outside the box. As you can see, Mark and I did not opt for the big, traditional wedding. We chose what felt right to us, and what was going to make us the happiest. It’s a very special day – don’t be afraid to go for what you truly want.”

real wedding

René & John canyon city

René (of Rene Tate Photography) is an amazingly talented wedding photographer in Colorado, so we were so honored to feature her and John’s wedding day! René and John met on a blind date at the Hyatt Regency in Denver, and have been inseperable ever since. Five years and two months later, John took her back to that very spot where they met, and he proposed. René had a hunch it was coming, but did not expect to see all the people they love most cheering in the lobby! They planned an exquisite, upscale garden wedding for May 25, 2014, complete with one heck of a first kiss. Congrats René and John! XO, The RMB Team

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Theme: René and John planned a lovely vintage-meetselegant mansion wedding, with a casual backyard-feel. They chose a color palette of blush, pink, and gold.

The Dress: “Oh, how I loved my dress. I originally wanted

my cousin and mother, both talented seamstresses, to create my dress. We went dress shopping just to get a few ideas of fits and end up finding the dress I’d been picturing in my mind’s eye. I’ll never forget how beautiful and magical it was to find a dress that was ME. I never wanted to take it off. My dress was discovered at Danelle’s Bridal Boutique in Colorado Springs, and the beautiful ivory lace, mermaid-style dress was designed by Louvre Couture. My favorite features are the peek-a-boo tulle bottom and the sexy sweetheart neckline, and of course, I loved how it showed off my curves. The BEST part of my dress was a custom made bolero to be worn during the ceremony. I designed it, and my cousin and mother pieced it together. I felt so extremely old-fashioned and stunning in it. Having a piece that my family made meant the world to me.”

The Flowers: Floral was a very important element for

René and John. They chose a selection of peonies, dusty miller, grape vines, and hydrangeas. With both having Italian heritage, and Rene’s father being a wine maker, real grapes were also incorporated into the design.

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Favorite Detail: “I loved every single piece of our wedding, but my favorite is probably a tie between the flower-covered cross that overlooked our ceremony, built by my father, or my grandmother’s tattered, marked-up Bible, that our wedding scripture was read out of during the ceremony. She passed away when I was 10, but means the world to me. So that Bible was very much her presence on our day.” Mr. and Mrs. Moment: “There were so many amazing moments! But our favorite was our FIRST Mr. and Mrs. Moment — our kiss. It’s a long story, but we agreed to share our first kiss on our wedding day. I don’t think either of us realized just how far out our wedding day was, but alas, we held up our promise and shared our first kiss as our first kiss as Mr. and Mrs.- talk about a rush! The crowd went wild, of course!” John’s parents gifted the couple a fabulous wedding meal.To honor their heritage, it was an Italian feast! Guests enjoyed three different appetizers: caprese skewers, roasted veggies, and a cream cheese and olive tapenade bruschetta. For dinner, they started with an authentic caesar salad with anchovies, and then dined on their choice of gnocchi in pesto sauce with chicken, or meat ravioli with Italian sausage in marinara sauce. For dessert, a variety of cakes were served, including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and John’s favorite for the Air Force-themed groom’s cake: Butterfinger.

The Food:

Advice for RMB Brides: “Obviously, hire a photographer whom you trust and connect with. Ask to see full weddings of their work, similar to the type of wedding you’re planning. Just as critical, hire a wedding coordinator! Even if you have to cut other things - they are worth their weight in gold. We hired Danielle Odil of Entwined Planning and booked her Month Of package. Between her and our amazing photographers, I literally didn’t worry about a thing. We had a lot of details at our wedding, and Danielle and her two assistants had everything covered and decorated exactly as we’d planned. We could go on and on about the value of a coordinator. Just get one - you won’t regret it. Oh, and also spoil yourself with a new bottle of perfume just for your wedding, so whenever you smell it later, it takes you back to that day.” Three Words: Dream. Come. True.

real wedding

Lizzy & Ben boulder

Lizzy and Ben celebrated their love for each other on September 6, 2014 with a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at Boulder’s Central Park and a reception at BMoCA. The two met while working at Starbucks, and have been dating ever since! One day, Ben set up a “double date” to The Mercury Lounge in Denver, their favorite dancing spot. Once they arrived, the music changed and “I Only Have Eyes For You” started to play. Ben took Lizzy out onto the dance floor and asked her to marry him! Their wedding day was filled with all the things they love - it was their perfect day!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

Lizzy and Ben designed their wedding to be romantic, rustic, and classic. With dim lighting, tons of candles, and dark wooden tables and benches, they wanted it to feel more like an intimate family dinner than a big wedding. They chose a color palette of off-white and black, with some peach and yellow pops in the floral, and ample greenery everywhere.

The Theme:

The Flowers: Lizzy loved the black and white look of anemones. She incorporated heavy greenery to add contrast, which created the perfect mix of the classic and forest-feel that Lizzy was aiming for in her design. The Dress: The search for Lizzy’s dream dress was quite the adventure. She first bought a vintage wedding dress off of Etsy for a steal and decided to revamp it with a tailor. In the end, it did not work out, so she went back on the hunt. While home in Miami, shopping with her mother for the mother of the bride dress, Lizzy saw an Adrianna Papell gown and had to have it. Covered completely in tiny beads, sewn in a pattern reminiscent of art deco, the dress was everything she ever dreamed of - plus it was on super sale!

The Favorite Detail: Lizzy adored her “I Love You and Cake” sign.

Being a baker and having her own food blog called, she wanted to incorporate her love for sweets into their wedding day. Lizzy crafted the sign by hand, making sure it would hang perfectly. On the wedding day, all of the market lights actually blew a fuse at the venue, and her brother had to work some magic to keep it turned on!

Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

The Food: “Oh, THE FOOD. Quite possibly the best meal

ever prepared. Pan seared Colorado trout, polenta with fromaggio sauce, and brisket cooked to perfection. All of it was served family-style with potatoes, and corn bread with homemade apple butter. It was pure magic.”

The Sweets: Lizzy and Ben wanted the desserts for guests to be awesome. They built a custom wall to hang Voodoo Doughnuts from - a fun feature for all to enjoy! The First Dance: Lizzy and Ben first danced to “Dance Me to

the End Of Love” by The Civil Wars. The two didn’t really have a “song” but are both avid appreciators of music. The Civil Wars is one of Lizzy’s favorite musical groups, and as a natural dancer, Ben loved the idea behind the song. It turns out the song is named after a famous painting that now hangs in their living room - a sweet gift from Lizzy’s mom!

Mr. and Mrs. Moment: Lizzy tells us that her guests got a little

carried away with the whole glass-clinking concept to make the bride and groom kiss. The best man suggested that the next time someone started it, he would initiate the wave. This happened a few times, and the wave made it all the way around both long tables - such a fun surprise!

Advice for RMB Brides: “Take your time in making decisions! And once you choose something, try your very hardest to stick with it! When you change your mind, it can get very expensive and also muddle your theme.” Three Words: Intimate, classic, and free-spirited. Rocky Mountain Bride Colorado

Infinite beauty can be found on the Colorado range. C Lazy U Ranch provides the picture-perfect prospective of a ranch in the Rockies. The rich woods, panoramic sights, and horses inspired this styled shoot. Grey, navy, and a smoky blue created our masculine color palette, which we combined with the romantic formal tablescape and lavish styling of the bride and groom. We wanted to capture the elegant beauty found in the venue and landscape through an elegant ranch wedding - welcome to our Colroado love story.

Los Poblanos often does away with menus in favor of multi-course farm feasts inspired by the day’s harvest. For guests attending a meeting, retreat, party, or wedding, it is a private dining experience where the cuisine and ambiance reflect the chef ’s aesthetic and the farm’s long established relationships with local farmers. Los Poblanos offers a range of culinary experiences. Start your day off with Los Poblanos’ full gourmet breakfast for two. The menu changes daily and always features fresh ingredients right off the farm including eggs, honey, fruits and vegetables from the fields. The dinner experience at Los Poblanos is a must. La Merienda is a causal fine-dining experience, featuring the most pure field-to-fork menu in the Southwest. The menu changes seasonally, so you can taste the best produce from the region. For the ultimate field to fork experience, sign up for a special dining event at the La Quinta Cultural Center. Executive Chef Jonathan Perno will create a special prix fixe menu using fresh local produce and seasonally inspired flavors. Cap off the night with an artisan cocktail, while relaxing in the Sala Grande living room at the Inn. It’s no secret that we love weddings in every season, but there’s something especially romantic about summer. Our favorite trends for 2015? Both neutral and unexpected color palettes are really catching our eye. We’re also loving skirts in lieu of wedding gowns and are thrilled that non traditional bridesmaid dresses are here to stay. Simple designs with an artistic flair and lush greens add that perfect finishing touch to any style of Rocky Mountain wedding.
